10,000x Rebate System: Every Return Makes Me Stronger
Chapter 48: Infiltration [1]Ambrosia looked up at the boy with determination. "I need to go."
Amon immediately shook his head. "No. It’s too risky."
Ambrosia had already made up her mind, however, and she closed the laptop halfway before looking at him.
"It’s important, Amon. If I can get evidence connecting the Cordo family to those people, it could completely change my case."
Amon frowned. "And what happens if they catch you?"
Ambrosia remained silent. She, too, knew the risks involved in her plan.
Amon’s voice became more on edge as he explained. "You’re being stupid. If those people are actually involved with illegal weapons and terrorist organizations, getting caught by them could mean your death."
Ambrosia crossed her arms. "Then what do you want me to do? Sit here and pretend nothing is happening?"
Amon took a deep breath and tried to calm himself before answering.
"You’re already doing too much by taking this case. You don’t have to personally solve everything just because nobody else wants to do their job."
Ambrosia’s lips flickered with annoyance.
She suddenly slammed the laptop shut and stood from the sofa. "I’m going."
She picked up her belongings and started walking toward the bedroom without giving him another chance to argue.
Amon stared at her back for a moment before following. "Ambrosia."
She didn’t stop. She didn’t even look back at him.
Amon quickened his steps until he was walking beside her. "If you don’t care about yourself, then at least think about me and Sidney."
Ambrosia finally stopped, glaring at him.
Amon looked at her seriously. "What you’re doing could leave both of us alone in this world forever."
For a moment, the hallway became silent before Ambrosia smiled faintly. "You can take care of Sidney for me."
Amon’s face immediately showed clear signs of annoyance.
He reached out, grabbed her hand, and gently turned her around to face him.
"Are you really that desperate to die?" His voice became quieter. "Or are you hoping you’ll get to be with your husband again?"
Ambrosia’s expression barely changed at his words.
All she did was sigh and say, "It’s not like that."
Amon stared at her for several seconds before pushing his luck further. "You wouldn’t have behaved like this if I had died instead of him."
The faint motherly smile disappeared from Ambrosia’s face.
She pushed his chest and stepped backward. "Don’t say that."
Her voice was quiet, but the words carried far more emotion than Amon expected.
Ambrosia lowered her gaze as memories from a year ago resurfaced in her mind.
"When I received the news about the accident..." Her voice trembled slightly. "The car your father and Gordon were traveling in..."
She swallowed hard. "For a moment, I thought I had lost everything."
Amon remained silent, standing still.
"I still remember that phone call." Ambrosia’s fingers slowly tightened around the edge of her clothes.
"They told me there had been an accident, and I didn’t even know whether any of you were alive."
Her eyes became slightly distant.
"When they finally told me that you were alive, I..." She paused as her voice broke slightly. "You have no idea how relieved I was."
Amon lowered his head, hiding the guilt on his face.
Ambrosia wiped the corner of her eye before continuing. "I kept living because I had you and Sidney."
She looked directly at him. "So don’t ever tell me that I would have been happier if you had died instead of him."
Amon stared at her for a few seconds before releasing a quiet sigh. "I understand."
He turned around and walked away.
Ambrosia remained standing in front of the room, watching him disappear toward the living room.
Amon sat down on the sofa and rubbed his forehead.
He knew he had gone too far.
But the conversation had also dragged an old memory out of the deepest part of his mind.
...The car accident.
It had been the first thing he experienced after transmigrating into this world.
He could still remember the wreckage, the smell of smoke, and the sound of twisted metal settling after the impact.
Most of all, he remembered Ambrosia’s husband... Gordon.
The man’s face had been covered in blood as he desperately begged for help.
Amon had only been there for a short time, yet that scene had remained buried in his memory ever since.
He slowly closed his eyes. ’That day changed everything.’
A faint System notification suddenly appeared before him.

Amon opened his eyes. "Truthseeker’s Eye?"
He stared at the notification for several seconds before slowly sighing. ’Of course.’
Even when he wanted to stay out of trouble, trouble somehow managed to find him.
Amon stood up from the sofa and walked back toward Ambrosia’s room.
He stopped outside the door and knocked, but there was no response.
Amon waited a moment before slowly opening it.
The moment he looked inside, he immediately froze.
Ambrosia was standing beside the open wardrobe with her back half-turned toward him.
She had already changed out of her earlier clothes and was in the middle of fastening a dark lace bra.
Matching lace panties sat low on her hips, the delicate fabric hugging the soft curve of her body.
She turned around at the sudden sound of the door. "Amon?"
Amon’s eyes widened when he realized he had entered at the wrong moment.
He immediately slammed the door shut.
"Sorry!" His voice came through the door. "I didn’t mean to intrude."
There was a brief silence from inside before Ambrosia’s voice answered calmly. "It’s okay."
Amon stood outside the door for another few seconds before speaking again.
"I’m coming with you."
The woman didn’t respond, as if she hadn’t registered his words.
Amon continued before she could answer.
"I’m not going to hear any argument about it. If you’re going into something dangerous, I’m going with you."
Another long silence followed as Amon waited patiently, leaning against the wall.
Nearly a minute passed before Ambrosia finally answered. "...Fine."
Amon nodded even though she couldn’t see him. "Good."
He turned around and started walking away.
Behind the closed door, Ambrosia quietly sighed.
She knew that once Amon made up his mind about something, convincing him otherwise was almost impossible.
Meanwhile, Amon looked toward the window at the darkening sky. ’If we’re going into the mountains tonight, I’d better prepare properly.’
He was aware that things never went as planned.
