"This has to be a fucking nightmare?" Gu Chen muttered to himself, still not over the shock, "This must be that illusion array playing tricks on me."

Gu Chen looked around himself while he leaned his exhausted body against the large boulder Gu Fan was earlier sitting at.

His usually clean robes were currently stained with mud, and splatters of blood, and one of the surviving Gu Clan disciples nervously stood right beside him and used a large, broken tree leaf to furiously fan his sweaty face.

Right now, Gu Chen’s Righteous Dao heart was in shambles, because nothing that had transpired over the last hour made any logical sense to his mind.

He slowly lifted his right hand and gently pressed his fingers directly against his throbbing chest, instantly flinching as a sharp, agonizing spike of pain shot straight up his body.

This has to be a dream, but this pain felt so real. Two of his cracked ribs dug directly into his lungs and it proved that the brutal kick he had just received was entirely real.

His bastard, completely useless piece of trash brother had actually kicked him while he was completely unconscious.

’That pathetic trash actually dared to kick me?’ Gu Chen whispered viciously in his heart, and his eyes narrowed into murderous slits.

But what truly confused Gu Chen and completely twisted his rational mind wasn’t just the disrespectful kick, but rather the absolutely bizarre, and entirely shameless scene he had helplessly watched right after he was forced to open his eyes.

As Gu Chen lay helplessly in the bloody mud, he had to watch Gu Fan shamelessly walk directly up to the traumatized Gu Clan disciples exactly like a despicable bandit, shaking down a group of pathetic beggars.

"Hand over your storage pouches," Gu Fan had demanded with a sinister smirk, slapping the back of a wounded disciple’s head so hard that the boy nearly bit his tongue off.

"You... you absolutely cannot do this, Young Master Fan!" the bleeding disciple stammered defensively, tightly clutching his cheap leather pouch against his chest as he aggressively stepped backward, "This is our hard-earned clan allowance. You can’t take advantage of us while we had just fought a bloody battle for our lives!"

"Fought for your lives? Huh...?!" Gu Fan chuckled, grabbing the resisting disciple by the throat and lifting him straight off the ground with a single hand, "You pathetic trashes just spent the last hour trying to butcher each other like rabid dogs, don’t you fucking reason with your saviour. Or you will lose that head of yours real quick."

"But... but the clan rules!" Another disciple tried to protest, shivering as he looked at Gu Fan, "The clan elders will punish you for robbing your own sworn brothers!"

"The strict clan elders aren’t fucking here right now, are they?" Gu Fan sneered viciously, tightening his grip until the suspended disciple gasped for air as his face turned entirely purple. "I saved your pathetic lives, so I make the rules here. Whatever I say goes."

"And I say your pathetic lives and everything on your bodies belong to me, so hand over the rings and pouches right now before I crush this idiot’s windpipe and then yours!"

Gu Chen had watched in disbelief as the remaining disciples hesitated for a while, looked at each other and turned their gaze towards the ground.

Gu Fan saw this and smirked, he then grabbed the ring from the disciple he was holding in his arms and almost ripped it out of his finger before throwing him away like a discarded piece of garbage.

Gu Fan quickly scanned the storage ring for its contents with his spiritual sense, and the smirk sitting on his handsome face instantly shattered into rage.

"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Gu Fan had roared furiously at the top of his lungs, grabbing the bleeding disciple directly by his collar again, "Three low-grade spirit stones?! You only have three fucking low-grade spirit stones, a few useless herbs and a piece of dry meat?! You are a disciple of the supreme Gu Clan! How in the heavens are you this broke?!"

"Young Master Fan, we spent all our monthly clan allowance on healing pills before this expedition!" the disciple cried out in terror.

"Like hell you did..." Gu Fan yelled back, "Tell me which brothel you spent those Spirit crystals on? Was it worth it?"

"Ummm..." The disciple could not reply. He had no words to defend himself. Whatever Gu Fan said was actually the truth.

"Yeee... I knew it," Gu Fan slapped the boy across his face before he held his ring in his hand for a second longer, before throwing it back into the crying disciple’s face in disgust.

"What the hell?!" Gu Chen rubbed his eyes, thinking he was hallucinating from blood loss, because he watched Gu Fan repeat this exact same insulting process with the next five disciples.

Gu Fan would snatch their spatial rings or pouches, scan their pathetic belongings, curse them for being absolutely useless, poor pieces of trash, and then throw their rings right back at them as if holding their cheap artifacts contaminated his hands.

Soon, after watching Gu Fan beat up the sixth disciple for only having a single talisman and a few spirit stones, the remaining Gu Clan disciples didn’t even wait for him to approach.

The disciples just dropped their cheap storage rings and pouches directly onto the muddy ground right in front of Gu Fan’s leather boots, and then quickly scrambled backward to put a massive distance between themselves and the completely unhinged villain.

Thinking about all this that had happened in the last hour, Gu Chen frowned. His mind tried to make sense of the absolute madness, but he could not. Why was Gu Chen acting this way?

He slowly turned his head to look directly opposite to him and there was Gu Fan, sitting on a broken tree stump, his face twisted into a scowl.

He was continuously grumbling under his breath, which he could hear from this far. He was cursing the heavens, cursing the Gu Clan’s poverty, the useless Gu Clan disciples and even him.

’Fuck what did I do to this bastard?’ Gu Chen thought to himself not knowing what the poor Guy Fan had gone through thanks to the ruthless system.

’But I can’t let this continue. This is my chance. If I say just the right things, I might just..." But before Gu Chen could properly calculate how he was going to play it out, he felt something that caught his attention.

Gu Chen’s supreme 3rd Stage Origin Realm spiritual sense instantly flared up as he caught a sliver of a spiritual sense attempting to sneak unnoticed through the forest.

The concealed Qi fluctuations were trying to creep towards their blind spot, trying to catch them while they were still coping.

"We are surrounded!" Gu Chen roared instantly, pushing the fanning disciple entirely out of the way as he forced his exhausted body to stand up, ignoring the sharp, stabbing pain shooting right through his cracked ribs "Everyone, pick up your weapons we are under attack."

The remaining eleven Gu Clan disciples instantly jumped in panic as they grabbed their spears and swords.

They had no idea what was happening , but since Gu Chen said so, they believed him, and without wasting any time, they rushed to form a tight protective ring around Gu Chen.

Gu Chen channeled his Spiritual Qi directly into his silver blade as he locked his spiritual sense directly onto the thick tree line, feeling exactly a dozen malicious spiritual marks rapidly approaching their exact location.

He could sense that eleven of the incoming marks were hovering right between the 7th and 9th Stage of the Spirit Realm.

But one of them... He was stronger... strongest of them all.

He was the one leading the charge, and was radiating an oppressive aura of bloodlust that matched his own 3rd Stage of the Origin Realm.

"They have finally shown their cowardly faces," Gu Chen muttered coldly, his Righteous Dao heart flaring with arrogance as he actively prepared to slaughter the bandits.

"Who? Who is out there, Young Master Chen?" a heavily wounded disciple asked stammering, his blood-stained spear shook in his hands.

"Are the mutated beasts back?"

"Is the Slaughter Array starting again?!"

The disciples bombarded Gu Chen with questions.

Meanwhile, Gu Fan was still grumbling on his broken tree stump.

"Four hundred and forty pathetic low-grade spirit stones, a few cheap talismans, and a handful of dried herbs," he muttered viciously to himself, recounting the meager scraps he had just robbed from his fellow brothers, "This whole fucking thing is an absolute fucking financial disaster."

He lazily lifted his head, his sharp eyes perfectly following Gu Chen’s gaze directly toward the dark, gloomy tree line.

"Well," Gu Fan whispered softly to himself, his greed flared right back to life.

"They must absolutely have something good."
