49 Apocalypse Rules

Chapter 285 - 267: The Real Spatial Realm

"Dr. Zhang, is Guan in some kind of trouble?"

In the dormitory area of the Strategy Research Room base, Wang Yan looked at Zhang Minglu and asked worriedly.

"No, we're just trying to understand the situation," said Zhang Minglu.

Wang Yan's eyes were filled with suspicion.

'If nothing was wrong, why would a big shot like Dr. Zhang suddenly come asking about Guan Tong?'

"Ms. Wang, you don't need to worry. Just tell me everything you know about him."

Wang Yan considered for a moment before saying, "I don't mind telling you. It's not like there's anything to hide. My daughter, Na, and I met Guan during the 'June Snow' rule..."

She recounted how she had met Guan Tong. Zhang Minglu listened intently as the portable recorder he carried captured every word.

"...After we returned to Yunhua, we went to the hospital. I don't know where Guan went after that."

Wang Yan finished recounting how the three of them had met by chance at the foot of Mingdao Mountain, survived the blizzard rule, and then traveled to Yunhua for medical treatment after the rule ended.

After a moment of thought, Zhang Minglu asked, "Yunhua City isn't close to Mingdao Mountain. Yet when you arrived, Guan Tong was already there and had even set up a small campsite."

"That's right."

"That means Guan Tong must have set out from Yunhua City for Mingdao Mountain early on, perhaps even right after the rule was announced... How many people would have the guts to leave the city alone during a blizzard and head for a deserted mountain?"

Wang Yan said, "Guan is no ordinary kid. He's much braver than others his age."

Zhang Minglu nodded, but he was wondering to himself.

'Is Guan Tong really that bold and careful? Or did he get his hands on classified intelligence—that blizzard density was directly correlated with population density—which is why he dared to do it?'

Zhang Minglu collected his thoughts and continued, "So, because you didn't exchange contact information, you lost touch after you went to the hospital. How did you get back in contact later?"

"It was a coincidence, actually," Wang Yan said. "When we returned, the city was snowed in, and the authorities weren't letting large vehicles through, so I had to leave my car in a parking lot on the outskirts. Guan happened to be passing by, saw my car, and found a card inside with my phone number on it. That's how we reconnected."

Wang Yan added, "After that, my daughter was taken away by that fraudulent organization in an attempt to cure my illness. I've told you all of this before."

Zhang Minglu nodded. The matter concerning Chen Na and the "Qingmei organization" had already been documented when Wang Yan and Chen Na first arrived at the base.

"Ms. Wang, one last question. Do you know anything about Guan Tong's Psychic Power, his items, or any abilities he might have?"

Wang Yan shook her head. "I don't. Guan never mentioned anything, and I never saw him use any items or abilities during the blizzard rule. However..."

"However?"

"I do know that Guan is very capable," Wang Yan said. "He killed a wild boar that came down from the mountain all by himself. That's not something an ordinary person could do."

While Zhang Minglu spoke with Wang Yan, Silver Fox was in another room, talking with Chen Na.

"Silver Fox, does your arm still hurt?"

Chen Na asked, looking at Silver Fox's heavily bandaged right arm.

After the Luoying Plan operation, Silver Fox had received immediate medical attention. Official medical personnel with special healing abilities had reattached her arm.

But even though the arm was reattached, it was essentially unusable for now. It would likely take a long period of rehabilitation before it regained its former flexibility.

"It doesn't hurt anymore," Silver Fox said with a smile. "See? It's reattached. Dragon Soul's injuries are much more serious than mine, but his condition is stable. We'll both get better."

Chen Na nodded. She didn't usually call him "Dragon Soul" like that. To the stern man, she always referred to him as "Captain."

"Besides, compared to the teammates we lost, we're the lucky ones."

"..."

Chen Na's heart grew heavy as she thought of the teammates who had died at the hands of Jiang Lanying's Death Warriors and Lucifer.

"Alright now." Silver Fox cupped Chen Na's small face. "The reason I came to see you today is to ask about your 'Guan'."

"Guan?" Chen Na was confused. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong. We're just curious about him and want to understand him a little better."

Hearing this, Chen Na grew anxious. "Silver Fox, you've got it all wrong! Guan is a good person!"

"Who said he was a bad person?" Silver Fox sighed.

"But... don't you usually only do detailed investigations on bad people?"

"..."

Silver Fox was momentarily speechless. 'That's how it always is in the movies, I guess.'

She explained, "Don't worry, Na. We don't think he's a bad person. We're just trying to learn more."

Chen Na nodded, though she remained skeptical.

Silver Fox then asked Chen Na about how she and Guan Tong met, focusing on their communication after she went to the hospital.

Chen Na answered obediently, though her replies were somewhat vague.

She spoke in generalities about the details of their calls, revealing no important information.

After listening, Silver Fox had formed a few theories of her own. She then left the room.

She then went to Zhang Minglu's office. He had already returned from his meeting with Wang Yan.

"Dr. Zhang."

"Silver Fox, have a seat. Tell me how your chat with Na went. Let's compare notes."

The very reason they had spoken to the mother and daughter, Wang Yan and Chen Na, separately was to compare their stories and cross-reference the details.
