Chapter 335 - 312: Clues from the Profile

Chapter 335: Chapter 312: Clues from the Profile

Banzhen City, Public Security Bureau headquarters.

When Guan Tong’s group of five arrived, the bureau chief immediately came downstairs with several people to greet them.

"You’ve all come a long way. It must have been exhausting. Please, come to the upstairs lounge for some tea first?"

The smile on the bureau chief’s face was a sycophantic, practiced thing, and it grew especially stiff when he saw Shangyuan Zi and Suzuki.

Even though both were Yingqi People, they were now part of the North Star investigation team, and the bureau had no authority to interfere with their personal freedom.

"That won’t be necessary," Guan Tong said. "Please give us the identification documents immediately."

The bureau chief looked at Guan Tong. The young man’s face gave him the impression that he was not someone to be trifled with, rendering the pleasantries he had prepared useless.

"Yes, of course. Where do you all plan to begin your investigation? Would you like us to assign some Sheriffs to assist you?"

"No."

"Then do you wish to question members of the Mizusawa Clan? We in Sakura Prayer are strictly professional. The moment North Star released the evidence, we took all the suspects from the Mizusawa Clan into custody."

"Oh?" Guan Tong asked upon hearing this. "Is Mizusawa Chun among them?"

The corner of the bureau chief’s eye twitched. "The Divine Son... Mizusawa Chun was assassinated by your North Star Country’s Ascender, Shadow. The whole world knows this. Surely you’re aware of it, Investigator?"

Guan Tong immediately lost interest.

Based on the current evidence, the various objectives of the gene-mixing experiment were all related to Mizusawa Chun himself.

He was both the core architect of the project and its greatest beneficiary.

As for the other members of the Mizusawa Clan, they were just insignificant small fry in comparison. Given Mizusawa Chun’s cold-blooded nature, these clan members likely meant very little to him.

These "Mizusawa Clan suspects" the bureau chief mentioned were no different from abandoned pawns in Guan Tong’s eyes. Interrogating them would be a complete waste of time.

"Just give us the identification documents. We need to start the investigation."

"This... Very well."

Seeing that Guan Tong was completely intractable and that even the suggestion of interrogating Mizusawa Clan members had failed, the bureau chief could only have someone fetch the documents.

The documents were a few metal cards, engraved with the two words: "Special Investigation."

Guan Tong and his team took them and left immediately. The bureau chief watched their departing backs, the smile vanishing from his face in an instant.

After leaving the bureau headquarters, Guan Tong saw Silver Fox fiddling with one of the metal cards and asked, "Is there a problem?"

Silver Fox smiled. "Wanna bet? I’m guessing there’s a tracking device inside this thing."

"...That’s certainly possible."

If Sakura Prayer wanted to keep tabs on their location at all times, they would definitely install a tracking chip inside these documents.

"So what do we do?" Shangyuan Zi said. "Throw them away?"

"If we throw them away, they’ll have an excuse to stop cooperating with the investigation," Silver Fox said. "Give all the cards to me. I have a shielding device that will come in handy."

The others handed their cards to her. Guan Tong remarked, "It seems you came fully prepared this time."

"Dr. Zhang specifically instructed me. He allocated a lot of functional gadgets for me to carry so we could handle any complex situations."

"That’s good. Let’s go. We’re heading straight to the laboratory."

While under hypnosis, Divine Son Mizusawa Chun’s guard, Xin, had revealed the laboratory’s location.

It was located in an industrial park in southern Banzhen City. The factories there were just a front; the core was the gene experiment zone inside the area.

According to Xin, the experiment zone was as large as a football field. Half of it was used to store "experimental materials"—the poor souls who had been captured to be test subjects.

When Guan Tong and the others drove to the industrial park, they found it completely desolate. There wasn’t a soul in sight, not even a ghost of one.

"Looks like it’s just as we guessed. The Mizusawa Clan has already moved the laboratory."

"Let’s see if we can find any clues they left behind."

Guan Tong silently released a large number of Shadow Lines, sending them deep into every corner of the industrial park to search.

Chen Na also used her ability, activating her Perception Realm to detect if there were any remaining people in the area.

Soon, she shook her head in disappointment. "Besides us, there’s no one else here."

Guan Tong’s Shadow Lines didn’t find any people either, but they did locate the experiment zone. He immediately led the others over.

The entire experiment zone consisted of several dozen interconnected buildings.

A few of the rooms were extremely sealed, with sterilization measures, and were likely used for experiments.

Most, however, were spacious, large rooms, seemingly used for group confinement or housing.

Silver Fox crouched in front of one room, examining a floor covered in numerous metal scratches.

She deduced, "These must have been left when they were moving large experimental equipment."

Guan Tong, meanwhile, noticed that several of the more high-spec buildings showed signs of having been burned.

He figured the Mizusawa Clan had burned much of the data and evidence they couldn’t take with them in an attempt to completely erase all clues.

"Look over here!"

Shangyuan Zi’s shocked and enraged voice suddenly called out from nearby. The others went over and found her standing before a large metal building. Inside, the floor was covered by a layer of congealed, bright red blood several centimeters thick.

Looking closely, one could even spot black hair within the crimson gel. It was painfully obvious what this substance was made of.

"Urk..."

Chen Na covered her mouth, fighting the urge to gag.

"This must be the blood of victims from failed experiments." Silver Fox was much calmer. After a careful look, she turned to Guan Tong. "We need to find where they moved the lab, and fast. Otherwise, more people will suffer."

"I know. But we have to find a clue first."

"Let me try," Suzuki said. "They didn’t move out that long ago. I might be able to use my Profile to reconstruct some of what happened and find a clue."

"Do it."

Guan Tong had decided to bring Suzuki, whom he still didn’t fully trust, precisely because of her Profile ability. It would be best if it proved useful.

With the other four watching, Suzuki took out her sketchbook, drew a deep breath, and activated her ability.

The scene immediately began to materialize in her mind in a form of "modeling," replaying events as time rewound.

Soon, an image of a raging fire appeared—the Mizusawa Clan members burning evidence. Further back in time, blurry figures moved experimental equipment, and the sound of dialogue could be heard.

The voices were low and muffled, as if heard through a curtain of water, and even when Suzuki pushed her ability to its limit, she could only make out fragments.

A moment later, the ability’s effect ended. She quickly sketched the images that had appeared in her mind onto a blank page, and finally, she wrote down the few lines of dialogue she had managed to hear.

"This is everything I could get from the Profile."

She handed the sketchbook to Guan Tong. Silver Fox and the others crowded around him to look.

The sketches of the past events were remarkably accurate, a testament to Suzuki’s impressive drawing skills. But the images offered no clues. The truly useful part was the dialogue she had overheard.

Guan Tong slowly read aloud: "’The clan head said to move all the... to the...’ ’Seeing the sea makes me sick, earthquake rules... my hometown...’ ’Hurry up... set the fire...’"

The lines Suzuki had written down were all incomplete and, at first glance, seemed vague.

After reading them, however, Silver Fox immediately seized on a key point.

"The sea? They mentioned the sea?" Silver Fox’s eyes lit up, as if she had grasped the crucial detail.

"Silver Fox, does that mean they moved the lab into the sea?" Chen Na asked.

Silver Fox looked at Guan Tong. "You’ve figured it out too, haven’t you?"

"Yeah." Guan Tong nodded. "I’m guessing the Mizusawa Clan moved the laboratory onto a ship. It’s a clever way to hide it; most people would never think of it."

Shangyuan Zi frowned. "A ship? It would have to be a huge one to hold all that equipment and personnel."

"Exactly," Guan Tong said. "To accommodate all the experimental equipment, researchers, victims, test subjects, and so on... it has to be a large ship. That’s good news for us, because a ship that big is impossible to hide."
