A Bug In Fate

Chapter 65: Caught By His Teacher

Alden thought for a moment before asking, "What about physique-based techniques? Aren’t there techniques related to the eyes as well?"

Ravenna, who was smiling at his reaction just a moment ago, raised her brow before speaking.

"The physique-based cultivation techniques and bloodline techniques share some similarities, like how they can be inherited through parents. But unlike bloodlines, one can develop a physique through rare resources, like some special fruit, or just hard work."

She paused for a moment.

"Of course, there are some special physiques that can’t be inherited through parents, and the people with such physiques are all renowned figures, like the Sword Saint, who is said to have been born with sword intent."

New knowledge was being revealed to Alden, who had just asked about physiques, and now he had just heard that someone was born with sword intent.

*What the hell am I hearing? That’s pure protagonist plot right there.*

His mouth was slightly open as he repeated the words.

He could already imagine a boy waking up in another world and a system giving him some mission, like drinking breast milk and crawling on the floor to win a physique.

Later, as the boy grew up, there had been several assassination attempts on his life because of his jealous cousins and something like that.

The story goes on as he enteres a magic academy then going to save the world togather with his new friends.

Alden was imagining several arcs he had read before back in the earth.

Meanwhile, Ravenna watched in amusement. A silence settled over the table as she waited for him to collect his thoughts.

On the other side of the field, two people were clueless about the conversation as they were throwing stones into the lake, and they seemed to be in some kind of competition.

Back at the table, Alden closed his mouth before letting out an exhale. There was no point dwelling too deeply into it right now, as he was in the middle of a conversation.

"Teacher, do you also have a physique?" He couldn’t help but ask, as the person before him didn’t seem ordinary either.

Ravenna chuckled before looking into his eyes and smiling mysteriously.

"Who knows?"

"I’m sure you have one."

Alden stated before letting out a sigh.

To be honest, he would be more shocked if she didn’t have one, as seeing the things she casually did these past few days wasn’t something an ordinary person could do.

Alden looked toward the book. Since his teacher wasn’t going to answer him, it was better to move forward rather than wasting time, and he didn’t have the guts to force her to answer either.

"Thank you for answering my questions."

Alden’s expression was honest, and his eyes conveyed it enough.

"It’s okay, it’s my duty as your teacher."

A gentle expression appeared on her face, and her eyes softened a little as she spoke in a gentle tone.

"Now, don’t waste any time. Just continue what you were doing before we came here."

Alden nodded and picked up a book, while Ravenna took out another book from nothing and began reading.

Alden glanced at her and followed her lead. A comfortable silence filled the surroundings as two people began reading at a table while, some distance away, two individuals were locked in a competition.

Time passed, and the sun was now directly overhead. Beneath it, Alden continued reading without taking a break. He was reading a bloodline cultivation technique, and one thing to take notice of was that his speed had increased a lot compared to his first day here.

Maybe it was because of his new skill, Perfect Memory, so he didn’t have to pause in between to read a sentence repeatedly to memorize important things.

Some distance away, the lake was now empty, as Liam and Mina weren’t there anymore, as Ravenna had teleported them back to the city at their request.

*His reading ability is really good. Even I don’t have the reading comprehension to read at such speed.*

Ravenna wondered in her head as she glanced at her student, who was flipping page after page with impressive speed.

She didn’t doubt him over it, as she had come to understand that her student was good at understanding things.

Unknown to his teacher’s thoughts, Alden continued to read in silence.

Now he was reading a cultivation technique based on the eyes.

The special thing about this technique was that it increased their eyes’ capabilities along with their cultivation.

Just as elemental techniques increased their user’s control over their affinity and bloodline techniques strengthened their abilities.

One could only imagine how powerful Cultivators were who had everything, including a bloodline, a special physique, and eyes with special abilities.

"Grrrr."

Suddenly, a sound rang out at the table, and Alden was forced to look at his teacher with a strange expression. Before he could say anything, Ravenna beat him to it.

"That’s you," she stated in a deadpan tone, as she couldn’t believe the audacity of her student.

"I didn’t even say anything, though."

Alden avoided her eyes and instead began looking at the lake.

"Your eyes said everything you wanted to say."

Ravenna shook her head.

"It seems you are hungry, so let’s take a break."

Alden turned his head towards her and simply nodded.

There was no point pretending as it was just one of the basic human needs and there wasn’t anything to be embarassed about.

Ravenna snapped her fingers before the table was filled with various delicacies. She had to summon another table to place the food, as the one they were using was currently occupied by books.

They began to eat, and as Alden took his first bite, he couldn’t help but ask the question lingering inside his mind.

"Teacher, are you using a storage thing to keep the food warm? But yesterday, the food was out in the open for hours, and even then, it was still hot."

Alden tilted his head while chewing a meatball.

Ravenna’s gaze lingered on him before she put down her spoon on the table.

"I have space element affinity. You asking me to use a storage ring is like..." She paused a little before continuing.

"asking a master swordsman to carry a wooden sword." She finished her sentence with an amused smile.

Alden cursed himself for not realizing that as well. He had literally seen her teleport them more than two hundred kilometers away from the city, and not only that, she had also locked the place around them so no one could disturb him while he was studying.

"Oh... I didn’t realize that." He scratched the back of his head.

"Don’t worry. As for your question, I am just using my ability to store them in a separate space, and when one touches it, the thing will be pulled back to reality." Ravenna chuckled before picking up her spoon.

"...I understand."

No, he didn’t. But he was already embarrassed enough from asking a stupid question earlier, so he chose not to ask her to elaborate on something he didn’t really have any use for.

Ravenna was enjoying his reaction, and suddenly her eyes sparked with an unknown light.

"Noah."

"Hm?"

"Does it ring a bell?" Ravenna smiled mysteriously, amusement flicking in her eyes.

"...I don’t think so."

If Alden had the Perfect Memory skill a month ago, he might have realized at this point what she was hinting at.

Ravenna leaned forward a little as she said in a gentle yet amused tone,

"How did you enter Ravenhold when you first came here?"

She smiled.

Alden frowned as he thought and answered casually.

"Hm... When I came, the city guards were checking ID passes, so I just gave them—"

He paused, and realization dawned on him.

"Now you understand?" Ravenna smiled and ate a spoonful of soup.

Of course, he remembered. It was the name on the ID pass he had given to the city guard, as he didn’t have one, and he had chosen it because it was a typical main-character name.

But his eyes narrowed as he looked at his teacher.

"Teacher Ravenna, I didn’t expect you to be a stalk—"

He paused mid-sentence as Ravenna shot him a glance that was enough warning for him to continue.

"Haha, it’s nothing."

Alden avoided her eyes and suddenly increased his pace and began eating.

"As a teacher, I had to check my student’s history to eliminate the possibility of simply raising a criminal without even realizing it."

Ravenna spoke in a gentle tone and continued.

"And it’s just a background check. Everyone does that before associating with someone."

He nodded slowly as it made sense.

"I’m sorry."

He apologized, and Ravenna simply smiled before taking out something.

In her hand was a golden card, and something was written on it in black ink.

She placed it on the table and gestured to Alden, who stopped eating and picked up the card.
