A Bug In Fate

Chapter 71: Architect Alden (04)

*...It’s similar to my physique.*

"Huh?"

A sound escaped his mouth before he even realized it, causing Ravenna to look at him.

But his focus was already on something important.

A realization dawned on him.

All this time, he had been trying to find the best breathing method, but...

*What if, instead of finding one, I just create one and...*

*Force my physique to adapt to it?*

*Isn’t that my physique’s nature in the first place?*

A gleam passed through his eyes.

The Apex Evolution Physique was meant to evolve and adapt.

So why was he trying to find a method that already suited him?

Why not create one himself?

The thought alone made his heart beat faster.

The next second, he began running back towards the table. Even though he wanted nothing more than to try what he was thinking right there, he had to grab the orb while doing it.

Ravenna, who had been watching him from the moment she sensed the change, was confused. Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"What’s wrong?" she asked, simply watching him go to the table and pick up the black orb before sitting down in a cultivation posture.

Not receiving an answer, she sighed and started walking slowly towards him.

Meanwhile, Alden was cursing himself for some reason.

Why didn’t I realize it earlier...? Ah...

I am stupid... What the hell is wrong with me?

Did someone do black magic on me? That’s possible. Yeah, that’s it.

After lashing out at himself, he finally calmed down. Deep down, he knew it wasn’t his fault, nor was it anyone else’s. He just needed to vent his frustration.

Ravenna walked closer to him and stopped a few meters away, her eyes carrying curiosity and a faint hint of worry.

"What are you doing?" Her eyes narrowed as she stared at his hands, where the black orb was placed between his palms.

Alden glanced up before smiling, and a light flashed through his eyes.

"I’m sorry for running here without saying anything." He stared back into her blue eyes.

"I want to try something I just realized."

Ravenna’s gaze followed him from head to toe before she smiled and took a seat in the chair.

"Hmm... It seems you have found a way to create your cultivation technique."

"Interesting... Why don’t you show me what exactly made you hurry here without saying anything?"

Her voice was gentle.

Alden nodded and was about to start cultivating, but it seemed that even if you had an idea, it didn’t mean it was going to be easy.

He now had a purpose, but that was all he had.

His goal was to create a breathing technique himself instead of finding a suitable one and simply making a few adjustments to it.

But how was he supposed to create one from nothing?

He had never done anything like this before.

"Why aren’t you starting?" Ravenna’s voice pulled him back to reality.

He avoided her eyes before letting out a sigh.

"I have an idea of what I want to do... but I’m not sure how to do it."

He scratched the back of his head.

Meanwhile, Ravenna’s gaze turned thoughtful as she considered what he was saying. Of course, she could relate to him, as every creator had to go through that phase.

She herself had decades of experience in research, and she had faced the same problem countless times.

"I see."

"Don’t worry. You having an idea itself is an achievement."

Alden didn’t know if she was complimenting him or indirectly insulting him, but he remained silent.

Meanwhile, Ravenna gathered her thoughts as she began speaking in a gentle tone, a smile slowly appearing on her beautiful face.

"I’m not particularly good at explaining this kind of thing, but from my experience, I can advise you on something I did whenever I faced the same problem. I still follow the same approach whenever I encounter an obstacle in my research."

Alden tilted his head.

"What is it?"

Ravenna tapped her finger lightly on the table before replying.

"First, you need to understand what you actually want from your technique and decide whether there is anything you’re willing to compromise on."

"I don’t want to compromise with my cultivation technique," Alden said immediately.

"That’s good. I couldn’t have either if I were in your place," she continued. "Second, you need to think about the result you want and the difficulty of achieving it. You also need to consider how much you’re willing to sacrifice for it. If the cost of creating something becomes greater than its actual value, then it’s simply not worth it."

Her experience of signing countless deals and conducting years of research was coming in handy as she tried her best to help him.

*...I hope that helps. If not, I’m going to die of embarrassment.*she thought inwardly.

Alden took some time to think about what she was saying, and after considering it, he realized that what his teacher was saying made sense.

"I see... So, by that logic, doesn’t everyone want to have things easy? So they can benefit from minimal effort?" He placed his chin on his hand.

"You’re right... Even when finding the best breathing method, everyone chooses the one that’s easier so their body can develop muscle memory without much effort." Ravenna nodded and smiled.

"So, what is the easiest breathing method you can apply to your cultivation technique? And you have to keep in mind that your mana flow and circulation also have to be in sync with it,"

she reminded him, making it clear that he had to consider every aspect of a cultivation technique when creating one.

Alden became thoughtful and muttered subconsciously under his breath.

"Easiest method, hmm... I wish it was as easy as just casually breathing."

From her chair, Ravenna heard him clearly because of her heightened senses, and a chuckle escaped her mouth.

"Haha, everyone has hoped for the same thing, but reality always pulls them back from their daydreaming." She smiled in amusement.

Meanwhile, Alden heard her words, but another thought crossed his mind.

*..They didn’t have a physique that could adapt to anything.*

He silently commanded his system and opened his physique’s description.

══════════════════════

Apex Evolution Physique

A physique that continuously adapts in pursuit of survival and growth.

Minor improvements may be gained through repeated exposure to challenges, training, environmental conditions, and external influences.

The path of adaptation has no fixed endpoint.

══════════════════════

Alden stared at the description for a moment.

*...No fixed endpoint, huh?*

His eyes narrowed slightly.

*..Let’s see if the system is trustworthy or not.*

A light of determination flashed in his eyes as he looked at his teacher, who seemed to be enjoying his fantasy.

"Teacher Ravenna, I am serious," he said calmly.

"Huh?"

"I will do it."

Alden said it without hesitation, and without wasting any more time, he began cultivating.

Meanwhile, Ravenna sat there speechless.

One moment, she had been laughing and enjoying herself. The next, she was sitting there with her mouth slightly open, unable to understand what had just happened.

*..What the hell?*
