A Bug In Fate

Chapter 75: A Caring Teacher

"What do you want to name it?"

The question ran through his mind, and Alden began to ponder. He didn’t want to name it carelessly after going through so much effort.

*What should I name it? Hmm...Breath of Origin... Apex Breath... or Mana Primordial Breathing Technique..* he thought before shaking his head.

*No, no. That’s too cliché. Something unique... Hmm...*

While he was deep in thought, Ravenna sat down on the chair and gestured for him to sit down too.

She watched him with a smile as frowns appeared on his face from time to time.

*..It seems it’s his first time naming something... Hehe.*

Amusement swirled in her eyes as she summoned two cups of herbal tea onto the table.

Alden also sat down on the chair before a smile spread across his face. Ravenna looked at him for a moment before speaking.

"It seems you’ve decided... So, what are you going to name it?"

She leaned forward a little before picking up her cup and sipping her tea.

Alden nodded at her before meeting her eyes, a grin forming on his face.

"I have decided to name it..." He paused deliberately.

"Eat Five Star, Do Nothing."

"Huh?"

A confused sound came out of her as she narrowed her eyes.

"What type of name is this? What? Eat what ? Do nothing?"

Her blue eyes met his as she waited for him to explain himself before she began questioning the naming sense of her student.

*..How can someone’s naming sense be so terrible...? Maybe I should have suggested some names so it wouldn’t have come to this.*

She blamed herself for the current situation.

Alden remained silent for a moment as he watched his teacher’s expression. Even though he didn’t know what she was thinking, his imagination was enough to fill in those details.

"Hahaha!"

He began laughing as he couldn’t hold it in anymore.

Ravenna narrowed her eyes at him, causing him to immediately shut his mouth before he ended up in an even more difficult situation.

"Sorry... Teacher Ravenna. What do you think I’m doing with my cultivation technique?" He smiled.

"What?" She leaned forward over the table.

He said, "Nothing... Even now, while I’m sitting here, I’m cultivating, you know."

Ravenna narrowed her eyes as she tried to see if there were any changes in the mana flow around him. However, the longer she observed him, the more she realized that there was nothing that could prove he was cultivating.

’Hmm... His body is fully attuned to mana, so... maybe he can cultivate while doing nothing, but...’

Her eyes lingered on the mana around him.

"Why can’t I sense your cultivation realm anymore?" she asked with a frown.

"Huh?"

A silence filled the open field as the two moons glowed faintly in the sky.

They both turned thoughtful as they realized that he wasn’t leaking any mana from his body, making it impossible to determine what cultivation realm he was currently at.

After thinking for a few seconds without finding an explanation, Alden curiously willed his mana to move outside, resulting in his teacher being surprised once again.

"You..."

"You can control your mana well enough to hide your cultivation realm? But you’re only at the Spark Realm." Her mouth was slightly open as she pointed a finger at him.

It wasn’t like one couldn’t control their mana to hide their cultivation. Assassins were experts at controlling their mana, as they couldn’t possibly kill someone if they couldn’t even hide their presence.

Ravenna’s gaze lingered on her student, who was smiling at her with a relaxed expression.

"It seems you don’t know what you’re doing right now, so I will tell you as your teacher." She shook her head helplessly.

"As people advance to higher realms, their control over mana naturally grows with them. But even then, they can’t suppress their mana entirely," she added.

Before she could continue, Alden interrupted her as a question formed in his mind.

"But, Teacher... I can’t sense any mana escaping from you either. And it’s not just you. I’ve met some people, including a cloaked woman, the old man in the library, and a dwarf blacksmith, yet I couldn’t sense their cultivation realm either," Alden said in a confused tone.

A smile formed on Ravenna’s lips, and her eyes softened as she met his gaze before speaking.

"That’s a good question." She smiled. "It’s because of the difference in mana control between you and them. They are all probably higher-rank cultivators, so they have much better control over their mana and bodies."

She crossed her arms before continuing.

"For example, an ordinary Spark Realm cultivator wouldn’t be able to sense a Metamorphosis Realm cultivator. But that doesn’t mean someone from a higher realm would have the same problem.

A cultivator from the Ascendant Realm or above would naturally be able to sense the cultivation of someone from the Metamorphosis Realm."

Ravenna paused before adding, "The difference in realms matters just as much as mana control when it comes to sensing another cultivator’s strength."

A look of understanding crossed his face as he nodded at her. It finally made sense to him. Even though he had assumed that it was probably because of their higher realms, he hadn’t realized that mana control played such an important role.

"So, in other words, I have better mana control than you, hmm... because you couldn’t sense my cultivation earlier." He tilted his head.

’Well... I have perfect control over my mana, but I didn’t think it would be effective to this extent.’

Suddenly, he felt a light force strike the back of his head, causing him to nearly smash his face against the table.

He glanced up toward the source of the sudden strike, even though she hadn’t moved.

"Some things aren’t meant to be said out loud, you know." She smiled.

Alden rubbed the back of his head before nodding at her.

A peaceful atmosphere settled between them as his eyes slowly began to close, and soon he was asleep just like that.

Up in the sky of UmberSoul, the moon glowed with its faint hue, giving the night a mythical glow.

Ravenna stared up at the sky before glancing down at her student. She snapped her fingers, and a bed with a luxurious mattress appeared out of nowhere and landed gently beside their table.

A soft smile appeared on her face as she used her affinity to place Alden on the bed.

"He deserves it."

A bottle of red wine appeared on the table as she poured some into a glass.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Ravenhold City, near a library, an old man was suddenly forced to wake from his sleep when the bed beneath him suddenly disappeared.

That night, a young boy slept peacefully while an old man was forced to remain on guard against a possible assassination attempt.
