A Bug In Fate

Chapter 78: Who Is AMON ?

"Two lakh gold coins."

Silence descended over the entire hall.

Conversations stopped mid-sentence as countless pairs of wide eyes turned toward him.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

They had to be hearing him wrong. Surely, no one would casually bet two lakh gold coins on themselves.

The woman at the counter was also surprised, but it wasn’t because of the amount. Cream 11 was a renowned betting organization, so nobles and wealthy individuals often placed bets involving large sums of money.

What surprised her was that the person standing before her was just a young boy who was willing to bet two lakh gold coins on himself.

*..And he’s only an Awakened Realm cultivator. Where does he get the confidence to fight against Rupture Realm opponents? * she wondered inwardly.

But soon, she calmed herself down and politely smiled before speaking.

"Could you say that again?"

"I want to bet two lakh gold coins on myself," the young man answered.

The other people in the hall finally lost it as murmurs slowly spread through the hall after his words, breaking the silence as people began looking at each other with disbelief.

"Is he insane? Who is he? He’s only at Peak Awakened Realm!"

"TWO LAKH GOLD COINS ON HIMSELF?!"

"Which city is he from? I don’t recognize him at all!"

"His family must be rich."

People shouted loudly as their minds raced to identify the young man, as none of them had ever seen him before.

Meanwhile, the young man remained completely calm, seemingly unaffected by the attention surrounding him.

The woman behind the counter looked at him for another moment before finally reaching for the betting form.

"Name?" She took a pen as she glanced at him.

The man remained silent for a moment before smiling as he met her eyes.

"Amon."

"City?"

"Ravenhold," he answered in a calm tone.

But the people behind him, who were now focused on him, weren’t as calm as he was.

"No way... He’s from our city, but I haven’t seen him before."

The woman beside her friend also nodded as she narrowed her eyes.

"Yeah... I don’t remember anyone with that name either."

"Who is he, then?"

Meanwhile, the person they had been talking about was guided into another room. A table stood in the middle, with several papers scattered across it. Beside them was blue orb, covered in unknown runes that glowed from time to time.

The receptionist looked at him before she gestured him to take a seat.

"How are you going to bet? I doubt you are roaming around with two lakh gold coins... unless you have mana stones equivalent to two lakh gold coins," she said as she sat down on a chair.

A silence as Amon sat down on opposite chair and took out a card from nothing—or maybe it came out of his space ring on his right hand.

The card was black, with golden letters. A star was engraved at the center, and beneath it, written in the same golden letters, was:

VVIP

The woman who had been waiting for him was surprised, her eyes widening slightly. Of course, she recognized that card. After all, she had to memorize all the exclusive cards before she was hired for the job.

"Adventurers Guild," she muttered aloud unconsciously.

Amon remained silent as he simply smiled before stretching his hand forward.

"Here. I will use this card. Or do I have to go to the guild myself?" Amon said placing the card in table.

"No, no." The woman waved her hand rapidly before calming herself down.

"You can place your bet with that card."

Picking up the card, the woman smiled. She didn’t doubt whether he had the money or not, as the guild didn’t give their VVIP cards to just anybody.

She picked up the card before placing it in front of the blue orb on the table. A moment later, the orb glowed, and its runes began glowing as some numbers were displayed on it.

**The Adventurers Guild Exclusive Card XI**

**Balance: 3.9 lakh gold coins**

The woman blinked, not at the amount, but at the card’s description.

*XI, huh...*

She was amazed.

There were different levels of exclusive cards within famous organizations, and the number on each card represented how significant the person was to the organization.

*..He isn’t normal... Not that I expected him to be, as no ordinary person can carry this card... sigh.*

She exhaled through her nose while the payment was processing.

The number on the orb changed as 2 lakh gold coins were deducted from it.

**Balance: 1.9 lakh gold coins.**

Amon sat there with a relaxed expression, as if it were nothing to him. At least, that was what appeared on the outside. Inside, however, he was in turmoil, filled with hidden excitement and nervousness, as this was his first time taking such a risk.

*...hehe..I wonder if Teacher placed her bet on me... and how much* he thought.

On the other side of the table, the woman wrote down the information on the form she had brought earlier and placed it in front of Amon.

He glanced at it before nodding at her and exiting the room at a relaxed pace.

Coming out of the building, he glanced up at the sky, where the sun was about to set, before walking into the street filled with crowds.

Even though night was about to fall, Ravenhold remained crowded, and it seemed like even more people were arriving.

One might wonder why people were still coming if the tournament was going to be held tomorrow. There was a simple yet sufficient reason: the distance between the cities.

Traveling from one city to another took a minimum of one week, and it also depended on a person’s cultivation realm. So people had to prepare early, as they might not get a ticket if they arrived too late.

One could not help but be curious—if the distance between cities was so great that it took a week to reach the next one, then just how large was the empire?

It had one hundred and thirty-three cities in total, and there were also countless villages spread throughout the empire between the cities.

Well, to answer that question, one would have to travel across the entire Northern Continent, where the Human Empire holds complete dominion.

But then again, who was free enough to measure the entire empire just to tell common folks about it?
