A Bug In Fate

Chapter 93: Change His Indentity?

Three days later...

Alden and Ravenna could be seen beside the lake. Alden was actually running across the surface of the water, and wherever he stepped, the lake instantly froze beneath his feet.

The sight itself answered the most important question.

Had he succeeded?

It seemed the answer was yes.

Alden smiled as he ran across the surface of the lake, leaving a trail of ice behind him. One couldn’t imagine the happiness he was feeling. Finally, he could use some cool abilities.

One could even say that he had almost infinite mana, and they wouldn’t be completely wrong, as long as he stuck to spells and techniques that didn’t consume too much mana.

His physique had entered a state where he continued cultivating regardless of what he was doing. Because of that, he didn’t even need to rely much on his own mana reserves. The mana constantly flowing into his body was already enough to sustain skills with low mana consumption.

For example, he could now keep Mana Sense active almost all the time because it barely consumed any mana.

And another example was exactly what he was doing at this moment.

While Alden was having the time of his life, Ravenna stood near the edge of the lake with a smile on her face.

To be honest, she wanted to join him.

But she had to maintain her image as his teacher.

*..Even though I believed in him... I still can’t get used to this.*

Ravenna thought as she looked at her first student.

Her first student was this ridiculous.

*..What if I take another student?*

*..No, no... there’s no way someone could be as broken as him when it comes to cultivation.*

Unknown to Alden, he had already raised the bar for being Ravenna’s student to an entirely different level.

*Sigh... first, he defeated two hundred monsters and came out completely unharmed. Then he created a cultivation technique for himself, and even if that technique had been normal... haa... then he completely bypassed the whole process of using a spell circle and simply used his affinity without one.*

*Ah... what the fuck. Even though all of this happened right in front of me, I’m still waiting for someone to wake me up from this dream.*

Her thoughts were all over the place, and why wouldn’t they be? The sight of the young man jumping around while freezing the lake wasn’t exactly helping her accept reality.

It wasn’t like what she was musing was wrong or a lie, as Alden truly could use his affinity without a spell circle, a feat that only those at the Metamorphosis Realm could accomplish.

"Alden... that’s enough," Ravenna called out softly, yet her voice reached its destination.

Alden, who had just built a beautiful throne made of ice with his perfect mana control, glanced back at his teacher and nodded.

"Teacher Ravenna, what do you think of this?" he said, gesturing toward his creation with a proud smile on his face.

"Sigh... I can see a lot of details But don’t expect me to be surprised after seeing your ice techniques," she said, exhaling in exasperation.

Alden smiled as he walked casually toward her, flexing his newly gained ability.

As he walked, he commanded his status to check his recent growth.

"Status"

A familiar blue screen appeared in his vision.

A soft smile appeared on his lips as he saw the drastic changes in his status screen.

First of all, he was now at the Rupture Realm. Yes, he had actually broken through while attempting to bypass his body’s limit. Then there was also the elemental technique he had developed just yesterday.

Believe it or not, it had actually been easy. Once he gained access to his affinity, with his perfect mana control, there wasn’t much he could imagine but be unable to do. So, he created three layers for his ice affinity, and they were also designed for specific situations.

His swordsmanship had also advanced during his fight with the monsters his teacher had thrown at him.

Those were all the important improvements in his status screen, and he was delighted by them, as they were the fruits of his efforts.

Shifting his attention back to reality, he stopped in front of his teacher, who was looking at him with a deadpan expression.

"That was unnecessary," Ravenna said, looking back at the frozen lake.

Alden just smiled. "It was fun, and that’s what matters. And it’s not like it will be frozen for eternity, right? Maybe just three days, and all of this will be melted into water."

His mana was in its raw form due to his cultivation technique, and it remained that way, as it was his body that had adapted to raw mana, not the other way around.

Ravenna’s eyes drifted from the lake to Alden’s eyes as her gaze narrowed.

"Just three days, you say? And how many Rupture Realm cultivators can do that?" she said, shaking her head with a helpless smile.

*I wonder what he will be capable of once he reaches the higher realms. And his control over his affinity is also terrifying. I don’t even want to imagine what he will do with his other affinity.*

Of course, she hadn’t forgotten about his other affinity. When they had first come here through the portal, she had concluded that he had a Space Affinity , seeing his condition after travelling.

*..Well, it’s not like he is the only one with more than one affinity, but they aren’t common either.* she mused.

The Chosen Ones and high-ranking nobles, those at the top of the food chain, also awakened more than one affinity, but it was still rare.

*Hehe... Fortunately, I have three affinities. I don’t know how I was going to act as his teacher otherwise.*

A smile tugged at her lips as she revealed a shocking fact. It seemed Alden’s teacher wasn’t just anybody at all. Not that he had doubted it, especially after seeing her teleport them hundreds of kilometers away in an instant.

Shaking her head, she gestured for Alden to follow her to the table.

They moved to the table they had been using for the past few days, and Ravenna took a seat while Alden sat in front of her in another chair.

"We need to have a talk," she stated, her voice calm.

Alden tilted his head to the side in confusion.

"About what?"

Ravenna remained silent as her gaze lingered on him. Suddenly, something appeared in her hand.

It was a simple pendant, a thin chain attached to a single red crystal shaped like a polished gem. The crystal gave off a faint, mysterious glow as it rested in her palm.

"Wear this," she said.

Alden was confused, but he followed her instructions anyway. He reached for the pendant, his eyes questioning her as he picked it up.

"What is this?" he asked, leaning closer to examine it.

A mysterious smile appeared on Ravenna’s face as she met his gaze.

"You’ll have to change your identity," she said.

Before Alden could interrupt, she continued, "I’ve sensed around twenty people near the Adventurers’ Guild in the city, and I have a feeling they’re waiting for you. I could easily get rid of them, but I didn’t."

"Why?" Alden tilted his head.

"Because I remember you saying that you don’t want me doing every little thing for you. So, I thought they could make a good warm-up."

Realization dawned on Alden, and he nodded.

"I understand... Thank you." He smiled. "I’ll take care of them."

A glint flickered in his eyes. This was the perfect opportunity to test his newly developed techniques.

"I think they’re from a noble family. They have proper armor and equipment, even though they’ve tried to disguise themselves," Ravenna said. "But their disguises weren’t enough to fool me."

"Hm... I think I have an idea. A few days ago, I crossed paths with someone from a noble family. They’re probably waiting to take revenge."

Alden’s expression became thoughtful.

"Hmm... I believe I can handle those soldiers, but if a higher-ranked cultivator gets involved, things could become troublesome. I suppose I’ll just have to deal with them quietly."

He paused, a faint smile appearing on his face.

"And this time, I’m not going to show mercy... Hehe. If it weren’t for that old librarian, I probably would’ve finished them back then anyway."

Ravenna raised an eyebrow, seemingly impressed by his mentality.

The world wasn’t peaceful, after all. How could it be? Power had always determined the hierarchy, regardless of whether it came from strength, money, or any other source.

"Hhaha... You don’t have to worry about any cultivator," Ravenna stated. "And when I say any, I mean anyone you can imagine."

A sharp glint flashed through her eyes.

"I’m not going to let some old fossil bully a young cultivator—especially not my first student."

Ravenna laughed softly.

Alden couldn’t tell whether she was serious about the "anyone" part, but his imagination immediately ran wild.

"What if the emperor himself comes?"
