The arena was still buzzing with excitement even after the battle between Amon and Marcus had ended.
The spectators were discussing what they had just witnessed, while the remaining participants stood on the battlefield, each with their own thoughts.
Floating in the air, Alice’s gaze swept over the crowd. She could feel their excitement, a wave of energy seemingly sweeping through the entire arena.
But she still had a job to do.
"Ladies and gentlemen... that was an amazing fight, and we got to witness something extraordinary in this tournament."
She paused for a moment before continuing.
"So, why don’t we start the next battle? Who knows... maybe there is still something waiting for us."
She smiled with an amused expression as she glanced toward the audience.
The people here knew the next battle wasn’t going to show them something extraordinary, but it didn’t mean their excitement had died.
For example, even if you have already seen two teams with ordinary skills play against each other, that doesn’t mean you won’t be excited for their next match. Sometimes, it even grows alongside the teams’ rivalry.
In simple words, two teams just have to be equal in strength and skills, and this cycle will continue. But if one team dominates the other team entirely, at one point, people will lose their excitement and anticipation.
Back in the arena, the crowd erupted in a roar as their voices traveled even outside of the arena, causing passersby on the road to look upward.
"LET’S GO!"
"START THE NEXT FIGHT!"
"Who are going to be next?"
Alice let the momentum build as she glanced up at the screen above the arena.
"Let’s see who will be next, shall we?" She smiled.
The screen above the arena began glowing once again, and now there were only four names left: Elara, Mina, Ryan, and Rain.
The two familiar dots appeared, and once again, they ran wild, appearing next to the participants’ names. After a few seconds, they stopped at two names.
"Ryan vs Rain."
The names appeared randomly, and a silence settled over the arena because the names that had been chosen weren’t random at all.
"The twin brothers?"
"What the hell... both brothers got chosen?"
"Hahaha!"
"I think it’s good because they always seem to be in competition."
Yep, the names chosen for this round were actually brothers, and both of them looked identical to each other to the point that if one of them committed a crime, there was a chance the guards would take the other brother instead.
"RYAN!"
"RAIN!"
"YOU GOT THIS!"
"IT’S YOUR CHANCE!"
The audience was naturally divided into two groups, each cheering for their favorite.
The twins on the ground looked at each other, and an understanding passed through their eyes. They nodded at the other participants before walking toward the center.
While they were walking, Alden turned toward Liam beside him.
"It seems they’re twin brothers... Who do you think will win?" he asked.
Liam was confused about why Alden was asking him, considering this was their first time meeting. At least, according to him.
Still, he decided to share his thoughts, as the man wasn’t asking anything unreasonable.
"I don’t know. But it seems Ryan is more calculated, so I think he has a better chance," he said calmly, based on his observations of the two so far.
Alden nodded at his words as he watched the twins’ backs while they walked away.
Beside them, Mina looked between the two and then let her gaze linger on Alden for a little longer.
Something was clearly going on inside her mind, but what it was remained unknown.
Meanwhile, the twins were now standing in front of each other. There was some distance between them, giving each enough space to fight, and they waited for Alice to announce the start of the battle.
"LET’S GO FOR ANOTHER FIGHT, HAHA!"
"I HAVE MY BET ON RYAN!"
"FOOL! RAIN WILL WIN FOR SURE!"
As the crowd cheered, Alice’s gaze swept over them with a smile before she looked back at the arena and raised her hand.
"Start."
The moment she gave the signal, both participants moved at the same time, charging toward each other with their weapons in hand.
Ryan wielded a spear, while Rain held a sword in his hand.
Their weapons met in the middle of the battlefield, and sparks flew upon impact. The ground beneath their feet was slightly suppressed as they were both pushed back.
Ryan closed the distance again as his spear thrust forward with impressive speed, but Rain wasn’t behind either. He deflected it to the side before slashing his sword toward Ryan’s abdomen.
Ryan’s instinct kicked in as he avoided the attack by stepping aside while kicking at Rain’s ribs, who was in the middle of his motion when he suddenly felt pain in his ribs.
The two put some distance between them before clashing again and again.
Strike met strike, steel met steel, and sparks flew in every direction as their weapons collided. One thrust forward, the other deflected. One slashed downward, the other raised his weapon to block.
Their movements grew faster with every exchange, neither willing to give the other an opening. Blows came from every direction, met by equally swift defenses, as the sound of clashing steel echoed throughout the arena.
Wounds began appearing on both of them, covering different parts of their bodies. Several cuts marked their cheeks, legs, and abdomens, and the number of wounds kept increasing with every exchange.
With that, one question began to form in everyone’s mind.
Why hadn’t either of them been eliminated yet?
The answer was simple. None of the cuts or wounds were deep enough to be life-threatening. Most of them were merely surface-level cuts, causing pain but nothing serious enough to end the fight.
Suddenly, both of them stopped as they put some distance between them.
"Let’s decide who is the best with this fight," Rain said with a grin on his face.
Ryan looked into his brother’s eyes before nodding in understanding.
"Water Blade," he cast a spell.
"Stone Shield," Rain cast his spell as well.
A sharp blade made of water rushed toward Rain, who was standing behind a wall made of rock.
The attacks collided as the Water Blade left some damage on the shield but couldn’t penetrate through it. But that wasn’t going to stop the twins, as they cast their spells again at the same time.
Certainly, there had to be some reason, right? As every consequence had its cause, so what was the cause here?
