"Arlo, you're pretty bold with your words."

Suddenly, a voice came from behind.

Braddock Yarbrough was engrossed in speaking and didn't catch who was talking. He turned around, shouting, "In Alba Spire, I'm the one who calls the shots here. What? Not convinced?"

Just as the words were spoken.

He happened to see the person standing behind him.

The entire persona shivered.

His arrogant expression instantly froze.

Stammering, he called out, "Ke... Kent, I... I didn't know it was you... I..."

He suddenly didn't know how to explain.

Kent Hamilton wore a stern face.

Seriously, he said, "Such a huge incident at Alba Spire precinct, don't you share some responsibility as the precinct chief? Who gave you the nerve to flaunt here?"

"Kent, I..."

Cold sweat started appearing on Braddock's forehead.

He was scared out of his wits, not knowing where to place his hands.

Kent Hamilton didn't want to waste more time on Braddock.

He looked towards the distant Elbert Rivers, waving him over.

Dirk Carter had already talked to Elbert Rivers beforehand, aware of Kent Hamilton's intention for the visit.

He quickly jogged over.

Saluting, he called out, "Hello, Director Hamilton."

Kent nodded, saying, "I've come to announce a new appointment. Due to the vacancy in the position of instructor at Alba Spire precinct, after research by the public security bureau's party committee, Elbert Rivers will temporarily act as the instructor until the organizational department's assessment is completed, after which he'll be officially appointed."

Upon hearing this.

Braddock Yarbrough was dumbstruck.

"Kent... Kent, Elbert is still an intern officer."

"What? Are you questioning the party committee's decision?"

Kent asked sternly.

Braddock hurriedly waved his hands, saying, "No... not at all... I just..."

"Alright, you don't need to speak any further. This matter is settled, Elbert, come inside with me."

After leaving these words.

Kent Hamilton headed inside the precinct office building.

Elbert Rivers quickly followed him in.

Leaving Braddock Yarbrough standing there alone, unable to make sense of how things had ended up like this.

At eight in the evening.

Dirk Carter had just arrived at The Empyrean Palace.

News arrived from the public security bureau.

Cora Young's son Domenic Lewis had been arrested.

Immediately after, Cora took action, using the state commission's name, heading to the public security bureau to arrest Kent Hamilton.

After a stand-off lasting fifteen minutes.

Kent Hamilton was taken away by Cora Young.

The incident triggered immediate attention from City Secretary Jamal Palmer.

Upon seeing Norman Ross's two key associates tearing each other apart, Jamal Palmer was never going to let such an opportunity pass.

He promptly reported to the state commission for discipline inspection.

That very night, an investigative team was formed, traveling to Veridia City, taking Kent Hamilton and Cora Young away.

Of course.

This is another story, so let's not mention it here for now.

Dirk Carter headed to The Empyrean Palace after receiving a call from Basilio Sinclair, hurrying there.

At the elevator entrance.

He saw Basilio looking anxious.

Dirk asked, "What happened? Did something happen to Isabelle?"

Basilio shook his head, saying, "You should come upstairs with me first."

The two entered the elevator one after the other.

During the elevator ride, Basilio appeared very tense, his breathing rapid.

Soon.

The elevator doors opened.

Basilio pushed open the office door, saying, "Please come in, Mayor Carter, Miss is waiting for you inside."

Dirk walked in cautiously, scanned the room, but discovered no one in the office. Glancing back at Basilio, Basilio said, "In the bedroom."

Bedroom?

Did something truly happen to Claire Kane?

No, the last treatment was just a few days ago, it should have had an effect.

With a heart full of trepidation.

Dirk reached the bedroom door.

Just as he was about to push it open.

The door was opened from within.

The person opening the door was Claire Kane.

She appeared anxious, however, her complexion seemed fine, suggesting there wasn't any problem.

Dirk's anxious heart was instantly at ease.

He heaved a sigh of relief, asking, "Basilio urgently called me, asking me to come straight over, are you okay?"

"I'm fine, but someone else isn't."

After speaking.

Claire moved aside.

The bedroom contained only a single bed.

The first thing Dirk saw was his wife, Dorothy Zechariah.

Dirk was taken aback.

Surprised, he asked, "Dorothy, why are you here?"

Dorothy also appeared worried, saying to Dirk, "That's not important now, look at her first."

After speaking.

She pointed to the bed.

Dirk focused and found another person lying on the bed, a woman, though due to his position at the door, he couldn't see clearly.

He stepped forward a few paces.

Leaning in for a closer look.

He was instantly stunned.

The person lying on the bed was Jeanette Houseman, the fourth daughter of the Houseman Family.

Jeanette's face looked haggard.

Showing no hint of blood color.

Her eyes were shut tightly.

Breathing was faint.

Teetering on the brink of life and death.

Dirk detected something amiss.

Immediately reached his hand under the quilt, placing it on her pulse.

Following that, he abruptly lifted the quilt.

Jeanette's upper body was unclothed and bare, but now Dirk's gaze wasn't drawn to those two lumps of flesh, instead toward her left shoulder.

A thick layer of gauze was wrapped around it, yet even so, blood had thoroughly soaked through it, staining the comforter and sheets.

Appearing quite gruesome.

"How did this happen?"

Dirk looked up at Dorothy.

Dorothy's face was devoid of emotion, she replied, "She was shot, I couldn't resolve it, so drove her here through the night."

"Shot? A bullet?"

Dirk exclaimed.

Dorothy nodded, responding, "I've already asked Arlo and Rosalind to come, the two of them, should be able to remove the bullet."

"How did this happen?"

Just as Dirk finished asking.

A knock came at the door.

Claire opened it.

To see Arlo Yarbrough and Rosalind Sullivan standing in the doorway.

Each carrying a medical kit.

Exchanging a glance with Dirk Carter.

They hurriedly entered.

The two doctors began discussing the upcoming surgery for Jeanette Houseman.

"Dorothy, can we go out and talk?"

Dirk asked seriously.

Dorothy nodded.

Exiting the bedroom door.

In Claire Kane's empty office.

The two sat opposite each other.

At first.

No words were spoken.

Suddenly, Dirk asked, "Tell me, were Gwendolyn and Caroline all sent by you?"

Dorothy lifted her head.

With some remorse, she gazed at Dirk for a while.

Then nodded, saying, "Yes, they all were arranged by me to assist you."

Boom!

It was like a thunderbolt out of a clear sky.

Dirk sat frozen.

In that moment, he found it hard to believe.

To be honest, when these women appeared around him one after another, he suspected Dorothy, but ultimately dismissed those possibilities one by one.

The most direct reasoning was that these women all had past ties with him, how could Dorothy, as his wife, possibly allow these women to appear by his side?
