In an instant, the room was filled with the woman's soft moans, the two of them's panting, and the slapping sounds of "clapping for love."
They kept changing positions.
Changing locations.
Turning their longing for each other into the driving force of each collision.
The whole process lasted for over an hour.
Dirk Carter felt a numbness at his waist, as if he'd reached his limit.
The woman had long since run out of strength.
But she still caught this little detail.
She hooked her legs around Dirk Carter's waist and said softly, "It's my safe period, it's fine, give it all to me."
Since she put it that way.
Dirk Carter didn't need to hold back anymore.
With a low growl, he let everything pour out.
The woman felt that warm surge, her body couldn't help shuddering, and she shouted, "So good! So damn good! I'm practically dying here… it's too good… really too good…"
They nestled together.
And lay on the bed being affectionate for another ten minutes or so.
The woman slowly sat up.
She let out a breath and said, "Alright, you've emptied yourself, got your fix. You had me fly over from Argentum this time, you're not just looking to indulge with me, are you?"
"Of course not, I've got something very important to talk to you about."
Dirk Carter sat up as well, his expression turning serious.
The woman gave a playful smile.
And said, "Aside from teaming up with the Houseman Family, anything else you ask for, I'll say yes."
Hearing this.
Dirk Carter's heart gave a little jolt.
He asked, "Yvonne, you know about this too?"
That's right, the woman in front of him was Yvonne Donovan.
Campbell Donovan's youngest daughter.
The Donovan Family's darling princess.
Yvonne Donovan nodded and said, "Big Brother sent Dad away, I knew exactly what he wanted to do. I was the one who sent Dad to Elysia State."
"Do you know what you're doing?"
Dirk Carter took a deep breath and asked.
Yvonne Donovan nodded and said, "I know. Big Brother talked to me. Bohdan Sherwood coming to power is of no benefit to our Donovan Family. We've got no political backing; all our strength is in the military. Once Bohdan Sherwood makes a move against us, the Donovan Family has no way to resist. Attaching ourselves to the Houseman Family is our Donovan Family's only way out."
"That's what your big brother told you, isn't it?"
Yvonne Donovan blinked those big eyes of hers and gave a faint nod, saying, "Dirk, I admit I like you, but in the face of the great cause of the family, I can't make a mistake because of my feelings. So like I said, aside from this matter, whatever you want, I can give you."
"No room for negotiation?"
Yvonne Donovan smiled.
And said, "What do you think? This whole thing is being run by my big brother. Even if I wanted to stop it, I couldn't. Besides, I also think my brother's decision is the right one."
A trace of disappointment flashed through Dirk Carter's heart.
He had originally thought Yvonne Donovan could be reasoned with; now it seemed he'd been thinking too much.
With that thought.
Dirk Carter got off the bed.
He picked up his clothes from the floor and slowly got dressed.
He said, "Fine, in that case, I won't press you. If our paths differ, we can't make plans together. Let's treat this as the last time we see each other. We part on decent terms and don't betray the fact we once knew each other."
"Dirk… why do you have to be so heartless? You've been in politics for so long, you should know that politics is inherently a life-or-death game. In this matter, our Donovan Family is just trying to survive, how is that wrong?"
Hearing this.
Yvonne Donovan got off the bed as well, blocking his way in front of him as she spoke.
Hearing this.
Dirk Carter walked over to the window.
He directly pulled the curtains open.
The bright sunlight outside streamed in.
He turned, took Yvonne Donovan's hand, not caring in the least whether she was still completely naked.
His eyes swept across the scene outside.
Pointing at an old man in a reflective vest sweeping the street, he asked, "How old do you think that old guy is?"
Yvonne Donovan looked carefully.
And said, "About seventy, I'd say."
Dirk Carter then pointed at a taxi waiting for passengers at the hotel entrance.
Because there were no customers, the driver was standing beside the driver's seat stretching his muscles.
"In your view, how many hours a day do you think this cabbie spends sitting in his car?"
"Four or five hours?"
"At least ten hours!"
Dirk Carter said decisively.
Yvonne Donovan frowned and asked, "That much? Wouldn't his back be ruined?"
Then.
Dirk Carter pointed again at the doorman in front of the hotel.
A car pulled up.
He bent at the waist and trotted over, respectfully opening the car door for the guests.
After the guest got out, he tossed his suitcase to him, then swaggered into the hotel.
"Look at him, he's about the same age as you. Every day he has to smile and bow to strangers, and sometimes he even has to be scolded. Do you think he doesn't have any self-respect?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Yvonne Donovan looked puzzled.
She asked, "What are you actually trying to say?"
"Let me ask you this: from the moment you were born, have you ever suffered? Ever had to work yourself to exhaustion? Ever worried about not having money to spend? And have you ever been bullied?"
Dirk Carter asked solemnly.
Yvonne Donovan thought for a moment.
And said, "No. My dad spoils me the most. He never allows anyone to bully me. And of course I've never lacked money to spend."
"That's exactly what I'm trying to say. People in your Donovan Family don't have to do anything, just like you, yet you lack nothing. You don't need to curry favor with anyone, don't need to hustle just to survive, and don't have to worry about having no money when you're old. Whatever you want to do, you can do. Who gave you all this power, status, and money?"
"Of course my dad did!"
Yvonne Donovan answered without the slightest hesitation.
Dirk Carter shook his head and said, "Wrong. Completely wrong. All of this is the people's property, all of it was given to you by the people. Because you don't even know that we civil servants have another name: the people's public servants. You already have everything, yet you're still insatiable, always wanting more. And all the power, status, and assets you're grabbing—whose are they? Theirs! That old man's, that driver's, that doorman's, and those of the countless ordinary people."
"Have you ever thought, if you'd been born into a family like theirs, would you be able to wear such expensive clothes? Carry such an expensive bag? Stay in such a fancy suite? You wouldn't! The Three Great Families of Argentum control huge amounts of political and economic resources. Do you really think that's fair?"
Dirk Carter's voice was hoarse from shouting, every word hammered home.
Yvonne Donovan had taken it in.
But she was still a bit unconvinced.
She said, "That's because our fathers all contributed to this country back then."
"And they haven't contributed? Why are the streets clean? Because of those sanitation workers. Why is it convenient for you to get around? Because of those drivers. Why do you feel so at home in this hotel? Because of their service… Contributions don't have a size. It's only because of these people at the bottom of society that you have such a comfortable life. Have you walked too far for too long, so far that you've forgotten what the road you started on even looked like…"
