A Guide to Humanity’s Extinction
Chapter 127: Major Event 1—Death Crow (9)Meanwhile, in another corner of the container yard.
Guchen, Heimeng, and Captain Red stood together, looking up at the night sky to stare in astonishment at the young girl in the black-and-blue dress.
"A witch?" Heimeng sighed. "She's here, as expected."
"What is that?" Captain Red asked, resting a hand on her hip. She nudged her eyepatch up, carefully studying the girl with her clouded white eye.
"No idea, but who cares? Let's shoot first!" Guchen muttered. He abruptly raised his silver revolver, aimed at the girl, and pulled the trigger.
Bang! The silver bullet shot out, but a split second before it touched the girl, it was deflected by invisible ripples. It happened effortlessly, as naturally as rain falling into a lake.
"Alright... looks like she won't be an easy target," Guchen shrugged.
"What a pain," Heimeng grumbled. She quietly closed her game. "Can't play anymore."
In the night sky, the girl with blue flames trailing from the corners of her eyes kept her head lowered as she slowly raised her massive umbrella sword. Fireflies drifted through the air like stars in the cosmos, gathering toward the blade in a rustling tide.
Boom!
Amidst a tremor loud enough to shake the heavens, black-and-blue magic coalesced into a colossal pillar of light. It shot into the sky and spread outward like a tsunami.
Like the Tower of Babel manifesting in the modern world, the pillar expanded without pause.
Containers within dozens of meters, the massive silhouette of the ghost ship in the night sky, and even the wooden cabins along the port were instantly annihilated upon contact with the light.
Captain Red froze for a moment, her crimson hair swaying in the oncoming wave of heat. After a long pause, she crossed her arms and asked, "Where is my ship?"
"Forget the ship... run, senior," Heimeng said flatly. "This is exactly why I hate magical girls. These creatures of pure willpower are terrifying."
Guchen pulled down the brim of his hat with a self-deprecating chuckle. "Oh boy... Ever since India, Heimeng and I have been traumatized by magical girls. Didn't expect to run into another one now."
"Speaking of which, where is Sorakagehime?" Captain Red asked, arms crossed. "I haven't seen her since this started."
Guchen turned and looked around. His eyes widened slightly as he exclaimed in shock, "Holy crap, did our shadow sister get turned to ash?"
Heimeng stayed silent.
She seemingly couldn't be bothered to join this idiotic conversation, simply glancing down at the shadow beneath her feet.
"Still alive." Along with the cold voice, Sorakagehime surfaced from the shadow. She glanced at the shredded hem of her black kimono and murmured, "Though... I almost died."
"Why didn't anyone ask if I was still alive?" Bandage Man's gloomy voice suddenly rang out. A flurry of torn bandages fluttered in and slowly piled together to form a pitch-black human shape.
The five members of Death Crow exchanged glances before taking off, sprinting away.
Amidst the deathly silence, the girl in the sky abruptly leveled her umbrella sword.
A beam of magical light blasted from the tip, tearing across three hundred meters of night sky to instantly pierce straight through Captain Red's right arm and a massive crane behind her.
Bang!
The ear-splitting shriek of torn air only arrived after the light had already faded.
Then came a sickening squelch as blood sprayed outward. Captain Red stared in blank shock for a second before turning to look at her shoulder and arm.
There was nothing left but empty space. She let out a muffled groan and slowly collapsed to the ground.
Guchen, Bandage Man, Heimeng, and Sorakagehime turned to watch this unfold, temporarily stunned.
Immediately after, a harsh creak echoed from behind them. The crane pierced by the beam lost its core support and began crashing down toward them.
Roar!
Suddenly, a four-meter-tall werewolf leapt in with a roar. He raised his massive arms, muscles bulging as he caught the entire falling crane and hurled it away.
With a thunderous crash, the crane's chassis slammed into the distance, carving a deep crater several meters long into the earth.
"Hurry up and get Scarlett out of here."
A hoarse growl ripped from Cosimo's throat as he turned his wolfish gaze to the group.
"Sigh, looks like we messed with the wrong person this time. This little girl is a monster!" Guchen said, flashing a helpless, bitter grin.
He dashed forward, scooped Captain Red off the ground, and hauled her onto the ghostly steed galloping in from afar.
At the same time, a massive gray pigeon flew in from the distant night sky. The Black Magician and Giovanni stood upon its back.
"Giovanni..." Bai Ziling leaned against Giovanni's shoulder, whispering softly.
"I know."
Giovanni understood what she meant. The girl's crimson eyes reflected that demonic figure. Bai Ziling was terrified; her body trembled faintly.
The Black Magician raised an eyebrow, staring in astonishment at the young girl through his owl mask.
"This is what happens when you don't double-tap," Heimeng sighed softly. "Happy now?"
"His fault." "This idiot's fault."
Bandage Man and Guchen spoke in unison, pointing at each other.
At this moment, Lorenzo walked over in silence from the distance, with Bai following by his side.
As the Black Magician stepped off the pigeon, he tugged at his pitch-black gloves and looked over. "Boss, what do we do next?"
Giovanni, carrying Bai Ziling on his back, quietly stepped down from the bird and looked toward the leader of Death Crow—the young man dressed in the black robes of a priest.
Lorenzo stayed silent for a long moment before finally speaking.
"She hasn't undergone full Witchification yet, so her body definitely can't handle this level of power. She'll likely pass out soon from sheer exhaustion."
He paused. "Bai, stitch up Scarlett's wound."
"Understood."
Bai gripped a strand of Puppet Strings in her teeth and walked over to Captain Red. With a slight raise of her hand, she seamlessly stitched the gaping bloody hole on her side in two or three motions, stopping the bleeding entirely.
"Will she make it?" Taking advantage of the chaos to chug a mouthful of red wine, Guchen wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and turned to Bai.
"She'll wake up shortly," Bai said indifferently, retracting her strings.
"Do we just need to lay low for a while?" the Black Magician asked, glancing at the now one-armed Captain Red. "I don't know why... but this pisses me off."
"Hey, hey, kid, what else can we do but run?" Bandage Man scratched his head. "Save the hot-blooded youth act."
"Avoiding the fight is the right call. If we want to kill her, the cost will be at least one or two of our lives."
Sorakagehime walked over as she said this. But suddenly, a curtain of flames erupted right beside her—a curtain of black and blue.
The kimono-clad girl's pupils shrank to the size of pinpricks.
Boom!
Amidst the explosive shockwave, the towering wall of fire split the earth in two, carving out a gorge-like trench. The eleven members of Death Crow were instantly divided.
Sorakagehime, Giovanni, and Bai Ziling were trapped on the left side of the flames, while the rest were cut off on the right.
In that moment, the moonlight was dyed a dark indigo by Ember's dividing flames. Burning remnants of shipping containers floated on the surface of the sea.
Sorakagehime froze, then violently turned her head to see the girl in the blue dress, head bowed, gripping the umbrella sword.
The flames illuminated Ember's cheeks, her drooping hair concealing her eyes.
In a flash that likely lasted less than a tenth of a second, the girl thrust her sword upward and shot toward Sorakagehime, driving the blade cleanly through her abdomen and pinning her to the top of a container.
As a Shadow Warrior, Sorakagehime took great pride in her flawlessly tempered reflexes, yet all she saw was a phantom blur.
"Cough..."
Sorakagehime coughed up a mouthful of blood. Like a splash of ink, her body rapidly melted backward into the shadows on the container's surface, vanishing from sight.
Ember, like a beast that had lost its prey, slowly turned her head to glare at Giovanni in his flight attendant uniform.
The girl's dark dress fluttered in the night wind, her expression as cold as an ice cave.
It was a stare straight from hell.
Giovanni stiffened. Even though Bai Ziling was trembling all over in sheer terror, she bared her sharp fangs to protect him, her crimson eyes turning into thin vertical slits.
The white-haired girl grabbed Giovanni's shoulders from behind, leapt off his back, and lunged toward the advancing sword-wielding girl.
"Bai Ziling!" Giovanni roared, eyes wide.
Damn it... am I really using my lifeline on her? What will I do later? With that thought flashing through his mind, Giovanni hesitated for a split second before gritting his teeth. A small paper doll with the words "God is Dead" suddenly appeared in his palm.
He watched Bai Ziling's back as the paper doll spoke:
"Superman Philosophy."
A faint golden glow enveloped the white-haired girl, but with just a casual sweep of her sword, Ember sent Bai Ziling flying hundreds of meters away.
Bang!
A sonic boom tore through the air. Bai Ziling crashed into the top of a crane and slowly plummeted amid the deafening clatter.
"Giovanni..." Bai Ziling blankly lifted her head, looking in his direction.
Yet at that very moment, the world-dividing flames had still not faded. Giovanni was completely isolated.
Trying to kill me to avenge me? What exactly are you doing, sis? Ke Mingqing thought.
Giovanni backed away step by step. The flickering flames cast shifting shadows across his face, and cold sweat soaked his back. Then, a miracle occurred—his back bumped into a wooden door!
But how could there be a door here?
Especially one floating in midair. Giovanni instantly guessed what it was: a Door generated by Lorenzo's ability.
However, the moment he twisted the doorknob, Ember mercilessly swung her blade in a brutal diagonal slash.
In an instant, a bloody line appeared across Giovanni's waist. His torso separated from his lower half. Amidst a shower of spraying blood, the two halves of his body flew into the distance and landed at the base of a container.
The wooden door shattered, dissolving into a flurry of swirling splinters.
Damn it, can this body still be used? Ke Mingqing wondered. If I die here, I won't be able to use the Giovanni identity anymore.
Soon, the dividing flames receded, revealing the remaining members of Death Crow once more.
Lorenzo stared at Giovanni, his gray-blue eyes trembling slightly. Behind her veil, Bai's expression completely changed; the normally playful girl had never worn a look like this before.
The Black Magician was stunned for a moment before dropping his head, metallic eagle claws sliding out from the tips of his gloves.
"Kid..." Guchen gritted his teeth, a gloomy shadow crossing his face beneath his hat.
Heimeng frowned and slipped her game console into her hoodie pocket.
A bizarre shadow suddenly formed on the ground, and the kimono-clad girl emerged from it, clutching her stomach.
Sorakagehime dropped to one knee. Her katana slipped from her grasp, clattering onto the ground as she slowly slumped forward.
"Can you still move?" Lorenzo asked.
"Barely," Sorakagehime replied hoarsely, gripping her katana once more.
Ember slowly turned her head and raised her umbrella sword at the members of Death Crow.
Lorenzo flipped his Bible to a specific page, preparing to counter with his ability.
At that exact moment, the massive pirate ship rose once again. Captain Red had awakened. Having learned her lesson, she chose to unleash her power the second she regained consciousness.
Ember's dress swayed, and the tip of her sword suddenly flashed, firing a beam of light.
With a thunderous crash, the black-and-blue beam tore through the night sky, sweeping toward the pirate ship like a surging tidal wave.
The ship's dozen cannons pivoted simultaneously, aiming right at Ember, and unleashed a pitch-black barrage of artillery fire.
The explosive flames clashed head-on with the black-and-blue magic, eventually resolving into a massive heatwave that washed over the area. Ember walked forward through the sea of fire, her jet-black hair billowing in the heat.
The Black Magician tracked her with his eyes and snapped his hand up. Over ten wardrobes manifested around Ember, enclosing her perfectly.
However, before the wardrobe doors could even open, the girl swung her blade in a full moon arc, obliterating the wooden frames into a blizzard of splinters.
Ember staggered out from the debris. Like a wandering ghost or a god straying through the mortal realm, she slowly raised her eyes and locked them on the remaining members of Death Crow.
The blue flames at the corners of her eyes burned as bright as candles. Before her tears could even fall, they were vaporized into plumes of white smoke.
"Boss, want me to pull her into a game space?" Heimeng asked. "I should be able to hold on until she passes out."
"No... she's already at her limit," Lorenzo shook his head.
Just as he said, the girl moved like a kite with a snapped string, struggling with every step. In the very next second, she abruptly plunged her sword into the earth.
A column of black-and-blue light violently erupted from beneath her feet, expanding in all directions as if bent on devouring everything in existence.
"Butler, go fetch the rookie. I can still save him," Bai said urgently.
Cosimo let out a low growl, sprinting into the distance. He scooped up the two halves of Giovanni's body and turned tail to flee.
On the other side, Guchen yanked Captain Red and Heimeng onto his horse and galloped away.
The Black Magician hopped onto the giant pigeon, followed by Lorenzo and Bai. The pigeon took to the sky, while Sorakagehime melted back into the shadows and Bandage Man swung away under the night sky on his bindings.
The intensely thick black-and-blue hue seemed to mimic the colors of daylight, as if day was chasing away the night, relentlessly pursuing the fleeing members of Death Crow.
A full seven or eight seconds passed before the terrifying commotion finally settled. The world was once again blanketed in the profound dark, and the group ceased their retreat.
They looked back to find that the pillar of light had carved out a crater hundreds of meters wide and a hundred meters deep into the port's surface.
The dark blue flames danced in the night sky for a moment before quietly dissipating.
A moment later, Lorenzo looked down from the pigeon's back. He saw the gothic-dressed girl collapsed in the ruins; the broken umbrella in her hand dissolved into fading specks of light.
"Boss, is it over?" the Black Magician asked.
"Yes, it's over," Lorenzo replied.
As they spoke, Bai suddenly plummeted from the pigeon's back, falling from the two-hundred-meter sky.
Just a second before impact, she fired out strands of Puppet Strings to anchor onto the eaves of a wooden cabin, breaking her fall before sprinting over to Giovanni's side.
By this point, Bai Ziling was holding Giovanni's head, sobbing quietly. The young man's severed halves were nearly dry, incapable of bleeding out anymore.
The white-haired girl held him tightly, her snow-white bangs covering her eyes. Her body shook with silent sobs.
Cosimo remained in his half-werewolf form, his body covered in fur but his face retaining its human features. He lowered his eyes and sighed softly.
"Out of the way, brat."
Bai walked over briskly and spoke deadpan. Clamping a few Puppet Strings in her teeth, she bent down, yanked Bai Ziling aside, and immediately started stitching Giovanni's severed halves back together.
Before long, Giovanni's torso and lower half were reconnected.
Bai let out a breath and turned to Bai Ziling. "I need your blood."
Bai Ziling stared blankly at Giovanni before looking up at Bai. Frantically, she bit her own wrist, letting blood gush from the wound.
Bai nodded. She guided Bai Ziling's blood along the threads, piercing the other ends into every corner of Giovanni's body.
The red trails slid smoothly down the strings and steadily pumped into his body. Soon, Giovanni's pale skin slowly regained color, and his lips took on a healthy hue.
Bai Ziling kept her eyes half-open, leaning close to him. Finally, she heard the faint sound of his breathing.
The white-haired girl had lost far too much blood. Bai had siphoned almost ninety percent of the blood from her body in mere seconds. In the very next moment, Bai Ziling closed her heavy eyelids and passed out on Giovanni's chest.
"Whoa, you really brought him back?" Guchen rode over on his horse. "Miracle doctor!"
"Please, could you save my right arm while you're at it?" Captain Red leaned over from the horseback, managing a strained smile.
"Your arm was incinerated. How am I supposed to stitch it back on?" Bai tilted her head slightly, smiling. "Do I look like I can pull things out of thin air?"
"Fair point," the crimson-haired girl sighed.
"So, to prevent any future trouble, who's going to go butcher that little girl?" Bandage Man asked, hanging upside down beneath the eaves of a wooden cabin while flipping through a comic book.
"I will."
Sorakagehime volunteered, surfacing from the shadows. She had wrapped bandages around her stomach wound at some point and began walking toward the gothic-dressed girl, katana in hand.
"What do you mean, you? Did you ask the boss first before volunteering yourself?" Guchen took a sip of red wine.
"Maybe I should do it. You're badly injured, get some rest," Cosimo said. His right hand's five fingers suddenly extended, transforming into pitch-black wolf claws.
Sorakagehime remained silent for a moment before letting out a cold scoff, turning her head toward the distant night sky.
Just then, the Black Magician rode the giant pigeon down in a rapid descent, landing firmly on the port grounds.
He tilted his head slightly, gazing at Giovanni's sleeping face. He blanked for a moment, appearing as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately kept quiet.
Lorenzo stepped off the pigeon and turned toward the submarine moored by the sea. Without looking back, he dropped a single order:
"Sorakagehime, dispose of her."
Having received the boss's permission, Sorakagehime wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand and halted right beside Ember.
The port was dead silent. Sorakagehime stood before Ember, glancing down at the girl's face as she slowly reversed her grip on the katana.
Meanwhile, beside a wooden cabin in the distance.
"Senior... why hasn't Teacher Xi Ziyue arrived yet? She's never been this slow," Little Red Riding Hood said. Half-kneeling, she cradled the unconscious Blue Pigeon in her arms, looking up at Ember in the distance, ready to dash over at any moment.
But at that very moment, a white top hat came tumbling through the night sky, and a bone-white figure suddenly appeared beneath it.
He reached out, grabbed the hat, and placed it on his head as he plummeted from atop a crane.
Sorakagehime paused her blade and slowly shifted her gaze to the uninvited guest falling from the sky.
"...White Jack?"
Looking at the bone-white figure, the Black Magician raised a brow, calling out the newcomer's name.
