Chapter 1396: Chapter 1396: Dream

That night, Mu Yan had a dream.

In the dream, she had just woken up from bed and felt a bit hungry, so she casually called out, "Honey."

No one responded, so she turned her head to look at the spot beside her—empty.

She touched the bed sheet; it was ice-cold, clearly indicating that the person beside her had been up for a long time.

She glanced out the window, gray and hazy. It seemed early; why did he get up so early?

Mu Yan touched her stomach; she was really hungry.

She got out of bed and headed downstairs.

Even though it was summer, she felt a damp chill in the air, a cold that seeped into her pores and merged into her bones, making her shiver involuntarily.

Is it going to rain?

She wondered as she continued to walk downstairs.

Downstairs was equally silent, not a sound to be heard. She vaguely felt that the house seemed a bit different, but she couldn’t pinpoint exactly how.

He got up so early, where could he be if not downstairs?

Mu Yan stepped towards the kitchen; usually, the first thing he did upon getting up was to go to the kitchen to make her breakfast.

It should be the same today.

Sure enough, as she approached, she heard the crunching sound from the kitchen, with the aroma wafting to her nose.

She entered and said with a smile, "Honey, what delicious thing are you making for me today?"

But upon seeing that it was a woman cooking, not Jiang Jingheng, her face showed some embarrassment, "Sorry."

It was a middle-aged woman, her face solemn and stiff. She glanced at Mu Yan, then turned back to continue cooking.

Mu Yan frowned slightly, feeling an inexplicable awkwardness.

It was always Yu Ma who took care of their daily needs. Why suddenly change the person, and this person doesn’t seem easy to get along with?

Mu Yan left the kitchen to continue searching for Jiang Jingheng.

But after searching the entire place, she still couldn’t find him.

Could he have gone out?

But the door was closed. Mu Yan thought as she walked to the door, ready to open it, but when she twisted the lock, she found she couldn’t open the door.

What’s going on?

Mu Yan was a bit puzzled; could it be locked from the inside?

She twisted the lock at the bottom, then tried again, but still couldn’t open it!

Mu Yan had an intuitive sense of strangeness. Suddenly, she heard a noise behind her; she turned to look—it was the woman from the kitchen.

She placed breakfast on the table, turned her head to look at Mu Yan, and said coldly, "Eat."

Mu Yan frowned slightly, growing a bit displeased with her—what kind of attitude was this?

Where did Jing Heng find this kind of person, and where was Yu Ma?

Mu Yan suppressed her inner dissatisfaction and asked, "Have you seen Jing Heng?"

The woman glanced at her, then turned back towards the kitchen.

Mu Yan was really unhappy now; why wouldn’t she answer her questions?

She continued, "Why is the door locked? Do you know how to open it?"

The woman glanced at her again, then returned to the kitchen.

Mu Yan, "..."

She felt a bit stifled, sat down at the dining table, and suddenly noticed the dining room was very dark.

She could hardly see what her breakfast was.

She stood up to turn on the light when her gaze swept past the front. Only then did she notice—there were no windows in the house, just a large expanse of white wall.

Why did the windows suddenly turn into walls?

Was this her home?

She looked around at the surroundings—the arrangements, the easel, the sofa, the glass lamp—were they all familiar to her?

What was going on? Why had there been such a big change in the house, and she, the mistress, didn’t know?

The closed environment stirred unease in her heart. Suddenly, she shouted, "Jing Heng, Jing Heng, where are you?"

At this moment, a cold female voice came from behind, "He is not here."
