Chapter 623: Chapter 620: Something Isn’t Right
"Where I am isn’t important. Just do as I say and get in the car. I don’t like repeating myself." Ewan Stratton’s voice was firm.
"I don’t either..." As soon as she started speaking, she turned away. She was afraid Clara would worry if she heard her arguing with Ewan, so she turned her back to Clara Grant and lowered her voice. "I don’t like repeating myself either. Clara is not getting in that car, and neither am I. It’s one thing to have your men follow me, but what gives you the right to strip me of my freedom?"
Silence on the other end again, but he seemed furious. Sarah Shelby could almost feel a faint, chilling cold seep out of the phone.
"Say something! Don’t think your silence is going to scare me."
A soft chuckle suddenly came from the other end, but it was laced with heavy sarcasm. "Of course you’re not scared. You’re just hoping to provoke me into divorcing you in a fit of rage, aren’t you?"
"I..." Just as Sarah was about to say something, she heard a BEEP. She glanced at her phone—the call had been disconnected.
’What was that about? He left things half-said, with nothing resolved... and he actually just hung up on me!’
Before she could figure it out, another phone started ringing.
She turned and saw one of the men Ewan had sent answer his phone.
She couldn’t hear what was being said, but she saw the man listen respectfully for a moment before nodding. "Yes, Young Master."
’Young Master? Ewan?’
’What is he ordering them to do? To carry out his command no matter what?’
The man hung up and exchanged a look with the others. They immediately stopped blocking Clara Grant and instead turned to Sarah, saying respectfully, "Young Madam, please get in the car. Mrs. Quinn, please get in the car."
Sarah was a little surprised. ’He actually caved so easily?’
The two of them got in the car. Clara glanced at the driver, then leaned close to Sarah and whispered, "Looks like this Ewan Stratton isn’t so bad after all. You only said a few words to him and he agreed. He doesn’t seem as hot-tempered, eccentric, and stubborn as the rumors say."
Although Sarah hadn’t interacted with Ewan much, she felt she had some understanding of him. Deep down, she couldn’t shake the feeling that he had been *too* agreeable, and that something was off.
But she just smiled at Clara and said, "See? You can’t believe rumors. He’s... actually not that bad. So, you can stop worrying about me marrying him."
Clara nodded. If that was really the case, then she didn’t have to worry so much about Sarah.
...
Sarah only had two classes that morning. Afterward, she was whisked away by her four "bodyguards."
She had been drinking the night before, and her head still ached. She was fine when someone was talking and laughing with her, but now, in the quiet, she started to feel unwell again.
So, as soon as she got in the car, she leaned back against the seat and closed her eyes to rest.
When the car stopped, she opened her eyes and looked out to see they were in an unfamiliar place. Just as she frowned, about to ask where they were, she saw two words written above the large gate up ahead: Stratton Manor.
’That’s right, how could I have forgotten?’ She and Ewan already had their marriage license. Even though they hadn’t had the wedding, she was still supposed to move in with the Stratton Family.
The driver honked twice, and the gates opened immediately. The car drove slowly through, but instead of stopping in the main courtyard, it continued on toward the back.
Finally, the car came to a stop in front of a courtyard behind the main residence.
The driver got out and opened her door. "Young Madam, please step out."
Sarah got out of the car. The driver added, "Please head inside. The Young Master is waiting for you."
Sarah looked up, nodded at the driver, then pushed open the courtyard gate and stepped inside.
The courtyard was quite large. Sarah looked around, taking it all in as she walked deeper inside.
As she walked, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
