A Night of Desire

Chapter 625 - 622: Medicine

Chapter 625: Chapter 622: Medicine

The stubborn streak inside Sarah Shelby flared up. Since he was serious, she would finish these twenty laps even if she had to crawl.

So, gritting her teeth, she staggered back to her feet and continued to run.

As she neared the end, she lost track of how long she’d been running and forgot to count her laps. All she felt was a constant burst of stars in her vision. She frowned, trying hard to recall which lap this was.

Before she could figure it out, her vision suddenly went black, and she collapsed...

...

Clara Grant had no classes in the afternoon. After her four morning classes were over, Seth Quinn picked her up, and they had lunch together.

After lunch, Seth Quinn wanted to take her to his office. But as they drove past the bus stop where she had run into Poppy Vance before, Clara suddenly felt the urge to go see her.

So, she made up an excuse and had Seth Quinn drop her off, telling him to go back to his office by himself.

Clara Grant took a taxi, heading to the address Poppy Vance had given her.

When she arrived, Clara Grant found herself in front of a remote, dilapidated residential building. It had nine floors, and Poppy Vance lived on the very top.

The building was old and didn’t have an elevator. By the time Clara Grant climbed all the way up, she was gasping for breath.

She found Poppy Vance’s apartment and knocked on the door. She waited a moment, but there was no sound from inside. She hadn’t called ahead, so she wasn’t sure if Poppy was even home.

But she tried knocking one more time. Thankfully, a voice sounded from within. "Who is it? I’m coming."

Clara Grant recognized the voice as Poppy Vance’s.

Sure enough, the door opened to reveal Poppy Vance’s face.

Poppy Vance was stunned for a moment when she saw her; she hadn’t expected Clara Grant to visit so soon.

But her surprise quickly turned into a happy smile. "Clara, you’re here! Quick, come in."

Clara Grant stepped inside. The apartment was just as spartan as the outside—it was small, with very few belongings.

A pang of heartache and worry for Poppy Vance struck her. ’Poppy used to live a life of luxury,’ she thought. ’She can’t be used to such a drastic change, can she?’

"Clara, have a seat," Poppy Vance said, tidying up the only small sofa in the room.

But Clara Grant didn’t sit. She looked at Poppy Vance, her voice filled with sympathy. "Poppy, this place is too harsh. You should come back with me to see Brother Jennings. Whatever is going on between you two, you can talk it over and explain things slowly. You don’t need to hide out all alone in a place like this."

Poppy Vance just smiled, walked over, and looked her in the eye. "Harsh? Maybe. I wasn’t used to it at first either. After all, I used to live in a villa, had a private car service, and more money than I could ever spend.

But even though it’s tough now, my heart is at ease. I’m not spending his money, not selling my body."

"Poppy, actually, Brother Jennings..."

"That’s enough," Poppy Vance interrupted, taking her hand with a smile. "Clara, let’s not talk about this anymore. Are you here to see me, or to plead his case? If it’s the first, I’m happy to have you. If it’s the second, then I’ll have to show you the door."

Clara Grant had no choice but to drop the subject. "Of course I came to see you," she said with a sigh of resignation.

"Then that’s settled. Clara, please, sit down. I’ll get you a glass of water," Poppy Vance said, turning to pour her a drink.

Clara Grant called out to her back, "Poppy, I’m not thirsty, don’t worry about it."

"It’s fine," Poppy Vance replied, continuing to pour the water anyway.

Clara Grant said no more and sat down on the sofa.

Her gaze drifted around the room, but when it swept past a medicine bottle under the coffee table, her eyes instantly snapped back to it.

She reached over and picked up the bottle.

But the moment she picked it up, her hand was suddenly empty—the bottle had been snatched away.
