Chapter 631: Chapter 628: Then Just Die
Are you kidding me?
She was the top actress of Aegis, an A-lister in the entertainment industry, and they wanted her to play a supporting role for some newcomer?
"Director Keane, you must be mistaken, right? I’m Faye Jennings. I’m the one who always plays the female lead. Why is it that when it comes to Clara Grant, I have to be the supporting actress? You can say she’s not getting such a great opportunity and all these resources because she’s President Quinn’s wife, but there’s no way in hell I’d believe that."
"Then drop dead."
The words had barely left her mouth when a cold voice sounded from behind. She whipped her head around and saw Seth Quinn and Chase Childs standing in the doorway.
A jolt of alarm went through Faye Jennings. She hadn’t expected Seth Quinn to be here. She certainly hadn’t expected him to overhear her. And she absolutely never imagined he would say something like that.
Seth Quinn gave her a nonchalant glance and strode inside. "President Quinn," Liam Keane said in greeting.
Faye Jennings snapped out of it and hurriedly tried to explain. "President Quinn, please listen to me. That’s not what I meant. I... I was just..."
"You said you don’t believe it?" Seth Quinn, however, had no interest in her explanation. He stared at her and asked coolly.
"No, President Quinn, I..." Faye Jennings desperately tried to explain again, but Seth Quinn cut her off.
"But what does it matter if you believe it or not? Does your belief, or lack thereof, change anything? Clara is my wife. Shouldn’t I dote on her and stand by her? I’m going to give her the best resources and opportunities. So what? You... have a problem with that?"
After speaking, he ignored the terrified Faye Jennings and looked at Chase Childs behind him. He gave a casual order, "Suspend her work. All of it."
Faye Jennings was stunned. ’Suspend all my work? Doesn’t that mean I’m being shelved?’
’No, this can’t be happening. The entertainment industry moves on so quickly. Even though my career is at its peak right now, I’ll be finished if I get shelved.’
’Besides, Seth Quinn gave the order himself. Who knows when it’ll be lifted? By then, where will my place be in Aegis, or even in the entire entertainment industry?’
She grabbed Seth Quinn’s arm and begged, "President Quinn! President Quinn, please listen to me! You can’t do this! I’m begging you, please don’t shelve me! I’m begging you!"
Seth Quinn looked down at the hand clutching his arm, his eyes flashing with impatience.
Seeing this, Chase Childs immediately stepped forward and pulled Faye Jennings away.
Without another word, Seth Quinn turned and walked out.
Restrained by Chase Childs and unable to move, Faye Jennings could only shout at his back, "President Quinn, even if I said something you didn’t want to hear, it was the truth! Is it fair for you to cast me into hell just to protect your wife?"
He and Faye Jennings had worked together many times over the past few years. Although Faye wasn’t professionally trained, she had been hardworking, driven, and humble enough to ask for guidance, which was how she eventually secured her position as Aegis’s top actress.
And she used to be so gentle, poised, elegant, and reserved. He couldn’t understand how the Faye Jennings of late had become like a completely different person.
Still, he couldn’t help but speak up. "Faye, what are you saying? Hurry up and apologize to President Quinn."
Seth Quinn’s footsteps paused. He turned his head to look at Faye Jennings, his expression calm and his tone flat. "Fair? There’s no such thing as fairness in this world.
Five years ago, when I saved you from those people and kept you from ending up trapped in a desperate situation like so many other girls, why didn’t you talk about fairness then?
For the past few years, I gave you more opportunities than any other artist at the company, allowing you to become our top actress. Why didn’t you talk about fairness then?
Because it was precisely that ’unfairness’ that made you the Faye Jennings you are today. You can’t just keep your mouth shut when you’re the one getting preferential treatment, only to cry foul and talk nonstop about injustice the moment you aren’t, can you?
You want to argue about fairness with me? Fine. I’ll show you what real unfairness is."
With that, Seth Quinn looked at Chase Childs and issued another order. "Shelve her indefinitely. And if I hear one more word I don’t want to hear, terminate her contract and have her blacklisted industry-wide."
