A Night of Desire

Chapter 642 - 639: Aren’t I Interrupting You?

Chapter 642: Chapter 639: Aren’t I Interrupting You?

After leaving Aegis, Clara Grant went straight back to Stellan Bay. She hadn’t been back in days, not since she’d moved in with the Quinn family.

What happened with Faye Jennings was still weighing on her. Lost in her thoughts, she made her way home, let herself in with her key, and shut the door behind her. As she changed her shoes in the entryway, she called out listlessly, "Mom, I’m back."

But a man’s voice answered, "Clara, you’re back?"

Clara Grant looked up to see Marcus Jarvis standing by the living room sofa. She froze for a second, then a smile spread across her face. After slipping on her house shoes, she walked over and said, "Uncle Jarvis? What are you doing here?"

Marcus Jarvis smiled back. "I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I’d stop by and see your mother."

"Oh, really?" Clara laughed lightly, looking around. She didn’t see her mother anywhere. "Where is my mom?"

"Oh, she went to her room to change. I was just about to take her out for dinner."

"...Ah, then it seems I’ve come back at a bad time." Clara winked playfully at him, then gestured for Marcus Jarvis to sit. "Uncle Jarvis, please, have a seat."

"Marcus, who’s here?" Skylar Hayes, who had just gone into the bedroom and hadn’t even had time to change, heard the voices and came back out. When she saw her daughter, a smile immediately lit up her face. "Clara, what are you doing back at this hour?"

"Mom, I realized it’s been a while since I came back to see you, and I had some free time today, so here I am," Clara said with a smile.

"Where’s Seth? Why didn’t he come with you?" Skylar asked when she didn’t see Seth Quinn.

"Oh, he’s busy with work at the office and couldn’t get away." Clara looked Skylar up and down with a grin. "Mom, aren’t you supposed to be going out to dinner with Uncle Jarvis? Why aren’t you changed?"

"Ahem. Well, since you’re back, I’ll just cook for you here. We won’t go out. Is that all right with you, Marcus?" Skylar knew her daughter loved her cooking, and since she’d finally made a trip back, she couldn’t pass up the chance to make her something special.

"Of course. It doesn’t matter to me where we eat. I have no objection," Marcus Jarvis agreed readily.

"Oh, but I’d feel so bad. Your nice dinner for two has turned into a dinner for three. Aren’t I crashing your date?" Clara teased with a smile.

"Oh, you... What are you talking about? Your Uncle Jarvis and I were just grabbing a simple meal. How could you possibly be interrupting?" Skylar, embarrassed by her daughter’s teasing, chided her with a good-natured laugh.

"Okay, okay, I won’t call it interrupting. But you two should still go out for your dinner. Seth might call me to go eat later, you never know."

Clara still wanted to create an opportunity for Marcus Jarvis and Skylar Hayes to be alone. She had always liked Marcus and wanted to play matchmaker for him and her mother. Now that the chance was here, she certainly wasn’t going to let it slip away.

Skylar thought for a moment, then shook her head. "Let’s just forget it. We can go out some other time. Let’s eat at home today. If Seth calls to ask you out, just have him come over and eat with us."

"Skylar, it’s about lunchtime already," Marcus Jarvis proposed, glancing at his watch. "It’s a little late for you to start cooking now. Why don’t we all just go out to eat? It’ll save you the trouble."

He then turned to Clara. "Clara, you could call Seth and have him join us too. What do you think?"

Clara thought for a moment, then agreed. "Sure, let’s go out then. Mom, go get changed. I’ll give Seth a call."

"Okay, okay, I’ll go get changed," Skylar agreed, heading back into her room.
