A Person with Morals gets Transported to Another World [LitRPG] [Satire]
Chapter 60 – Spell BMWLearning magic was something I hadn’t considered at all. Since the System had not given me anything related to the arcane, I assumed it would be a waste of time to pursue it. It seemed that in a short time I was already becoming reliant on the System by letting it dictate what I could or couldn’t do.
I responded to Blyth, “If I did learn magic, what would I be able to do?”
“Anything,” she replied curtly. “You could polymorph into a bird and take flight. You could summon lightning and smite your enemies like Zeus. You could summon creatures and make them do your bidding.”
To the list Loftus added, “You could cast invisibility on yourself and sneak into the girls’ section of the hot springs to peep on them.”
After hearing that, I wanted to learn how to cast a lobotomy spell on Loftus. “I don’t really want to do any of that stuff. My goal is to get people to realise how immoral they’re being. Is there a spell that can help with that?”
Blyth thought about it for a second and then suggested, “You’ll want a mind-control spell.”
I shook my head. “No.” As much as I wanted the world to change, it felt wrong to start depriving people of their own free will. Plus, it was unrealistic to mind-control the whole world.
Loftus nodded his head to Blyth’s suggestion. “Mind-control is great. I had a spell like that on my skill-tree but it didn’t work with my build. If you do learn how to do it, Yarm, let me know. We can go and force some cute girls to obey our every command.”
That was enough. “Will you shut up, man? I’m so tired of hearing your voice. I seriously hate you. Why can’t you get that through your thick skull? It is physically painful for me to even be near you.” Hot air blew out of my nostrils as I finished my outburst.
Loftus looked at me as if every word I said had not registered in his brain. He gently punched my shoulder. “I love you too, man.”
Before I had a chance to violently punch Loftus’ shoulder, the doors to the main hall flung open. Inside came an Earthling drenched in red blood. From the top of his head to the tips of his toes, he was soaked in blood. His boots made wet sploshing sounds with each step he took.
Everyone at the nightly meeting immediately got up and ran over to him. “Are you alright?” I said along with several others.
We all worriedly gathered in a semi-circle around him. Strangely, I noticed that his HP bar was full.
The bloodied boy said, “I’m fine. I just got into a little scuffle.”
A healer started casting healing magic on the boy, but he waved her off.
“Don’t bother. I’m full health. This isn’t my blood.”
“What happened?” someone asked. “How are you covered in so much blood? Did you cut yourself out of the belly of a giant snake or something?”
The bloodied boy took off his shirt and wrung out a whole pint of blood. “Nah, nothing like that. There was a boy from some clan that kept insulting me when I was doing a quest in a faraway village. I eventually had enough of his arrogance and decided to kill him, but since he was part of a tribe, I had to kill them too.”
“Understandable,” remarked the brawny boy. The whole group had no more questions to ask. They brought him a water basin to wash off with and left it at that.
I had to have been misunderstanding something. There was no way that everyone had interpreted what was just said in the same way that I did. “Wait a minute, are you telling me you killed someone for making fun of you, and then massacred their family members too?”
“Yeah,” the bloodied boy said with a matter-of-fact tone. “That is what I said.”
“Oh goodness…” I staggered backwards. “You killed someone for insulting you? Just for that?”
“I mean yeah,” he responded.
“He was disrespected, Yarm. Did you want him to just take it and do nothing?” said Loftus.
“YES!” That was exactly what I would have wanted him to do. With every passing day, I saw the morals of these people reach a deeper low.
The bloodied boy washed his hair with some clean water. “I had to teach that arrogant kid a lesson. He was damn near courting death with what he said about my mother.”
Of course they were a child as well. I should’ve guessed that. “Ok, then why did you kill his family too? What did they do?”
“They were all part of the same sect. If I let them live, they would come after me for killing one of their own. Cut the weeds and eliminate the roots, you know?”
I didn’t know. I just couldn’t get through to these lunatics. I had to talk to these people in the only language they understood. “I bet you lost a lot of XP for doing that. The System penalises you for killing humans. I don’t recommend murder if you want to keep your levels.”
“Actually, the sect members were all half-humans, so I didn’t lose anything. It turns out you gain XP for killing half-humans. I levelled up a bunch from it.” The bloodied boy addressed the others, “I highly recommend killing half-humans or half-monsters if you lot get the chance. It’s way more efficient than just killing monsters.”
The others took the advice on board. Pink-hair said, “It’s a shame that they’re so rare. Monsters are way more common in battles.” Someone revealed how he had never even seen a half-monster yet. He had only seen half-humans in this kingdom.
I was getting tired of wasting words on these people. “I’m just going to report you to the police for this. We’ll see what they have to say about you being a serial killer.”
“Don’t bother,” said the bloodied boy. “I already told the guards. They said not to worry about it. They weren’t going to punish me.”
“Really?” Did the laxness of the law due to the Hero title stretch so far? They were willing to allow us to get away with murders? At least with the previous poor boy who tried to mug an Earthling, that could be construed as self-defence. This was completely different. If the authorities allowed this, then we would be completely immune to the law. It would also mean that I wouldn’t have been punished for freeing slaves.
There was something else going on here. Maybe this bloodied boy was particularly strong, so they didn’t want to halt his progress towards defeating the Demon King by arresting him. Or maybe, that sect did not fall under the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of Humans, so the law did not extend to them. Or maybe, the guard who was informed was too lazy to file paperwork.
“Who did you report the crime to?” I asked.
“One of the guards at the southern gate.”
[New Point of Interest Unlocked on the Map]
The bloodied boy had cleaned off most of the blood at the entrance and decided to hop into the showers. The majority of the room went back to the nightly meeting, but a few stayed at the entrance to mop up the floor. I checked my System for the new addition to my map menu. At the south of the city was a new question mark.
[Discover why the crime of murder went unpunished.]
Oh great, I thought, another mystery for me to solve. I had too much on my plate already. Though I did feel a sense of obligation to bring about justice for those that were killed. I supposed it wouldn’t hurt to go and ask around.
I was still put off by the complacency towards homicide that the others had showed, so I decided to get an early night’s sleep. I retired to my room and changed out of my costume. My face felt a little bare without the beard, but it was nothing that my warm bed couldn’t resolve.
After tucking myself in, I quickly fell asleep while listening to the faint chatter of the nightly meeting going on.
My alarm rune went off when morning came. I stretched my arms and got out of bed. Then I got back in to savour the warmth for a little longer. My fingers clicked open my status page.

I was somewhat dissatisfied with what I saw. I had gained so much but in comparison to what others had, it was nothing at all. Was focusing my attention on this System really the best path forwards? I began to doubt myself, but despite my doubts, I couldn’t think of any other way to accomplish my goals.
I got out of my bed for real and got dressed in my costume again. Shuffling to the kitchen, I heard several other Earthlings already making breakfast. I thought I had risen early enough to be the only one awake, but that evidently was not the case.
Entering into the kitchen, I saw Thaxted and Selsie sitting down at a table. I made myself something to eat and sat with them. “Morning.”
“Morning, Yarm,” the two replied with cheeks full of food.
I didn’t really see these two at the nightly meetings. “What have you two been getting up to, recently? Besides killing monsters.” Only a few dozen Earthlings regularly attended the meetings, so I wondered if the people who didn’t attend were a little saner.
“I’ve been toiling away in the mines,” said Thaxted. He showed me how he had a diamond pickaxe in his inventory.
“Why’s that?” I asked. “Are you digging for gold?”
“Nah. I’m mining for iron ore. I’m collecting a bunch for the Crafting Club to make me a whole set of weights and stuff. Barbells, dumbbells, plates. They don’t have gyms in this world so I’m going to make one.”
“That’s actually quite cool.” I was happy to see an Earthling doing something productive. A gym was a net-positive creation. Better than a place for torturing monsters, which I was sure the members of the nightly meetings would rather make. “Do you have any plans for where you’re going to make it?”
“Yeah. Somewhere near the nobles’ houses so I can charge them a fortune for membership.” Thaxted crawled the fingers on his hand against each other like an evil mastermind revealing his manifesto.
“Ah…” I wasn’t exactly opposed to his plan, but his intentions were mildly concerning. “What about you, Selsie?”
The girl was trying not to burn her tongue while sipping her tea. “Personally, I’ve just been enjoying the outdoors. I guess recently I’ve gotten the Herbalist title, so I’ve been exploring the surrounding areas to pick herbs.”
“Interesting. Are you making medicine out of the herbs that you pick?”
“No, I’ve been making pasta.” The girl shoved her hand into the inventory of her System and pulled out a bunch of parsley. “Here, have some for yourself. I’ve got too much.” She handed me the stems and leaves.
“Thanks.” I was happy to receive a gift, but I wasn’t really sure what to do with it. It was possible to use it in my tranquiliser recipe, since it technically was a herb. I wasn’t certain how effective a tranquiliser made from parsley would be.
“Hey, guys,” I heard a familiar voice. Loftus had a plate full of mash and beans. He sat next to me and chowed down. “What are you guys talking about?” he asked.
“Nothing,” I said.
“Aww, don’t be like that, Yarm.”
“Did you two have a fight or something?” Thaxted wondered.
I stood up. Loftus’ mere presence had destroyed my appetite. “I’m leaving.” Before I went, I did need to squeeze out some useful information from the others. “Do you know where Hyde’s office is?”
Loftus made an affirmative mumble while slurping up beans. After swallowing a mouthful, he asked. “Why do you want to know?”
“I need to return her underwear to her.”
The three seated individuals all stopped eating and stared at me. Loftus broke the silence by questioning, “Why do you have her underwear?”
“They were stolen,” I explained.
Selsie dropped her spoon into her porridge with a splodge. Thaxted pinched himself to see if he was still dreaming. Loftus commented, “You stole a 45-year-old woman’s panties? You’ve got some weird hobbies, Yarm.”
“Like you’re one to talk!” I yelled. Being viewed as weird by Loftus of all people was an insult of the highest calibre. Almost insulting enough to murder a whole clan for.
Loftus explained to me the location of her office and I was able to use my map menu to place down a marker for it. I left the building and decided to forgo using my stilts. They were slowing me down way too much and the wobbling made it seem as if I was drunk.
While combing the hair on my balding cap, Newmill arrived to meet me. “Good morning, Yarm,” he said cheerfully.
“Morning,” I replied. “Glad to see you still have your shirt today.”
He chuckled. “Yeah. Are you still going to wear that disguise?”
“Sure am. I might even superglue this beard to my face.”
“You like it that much?” From his expression, I could tell Newmill definitely did not like it as much as I did. Changing the topic, he said, “What are we going to do today?”
“To be honest, I still have some places I need to explore.” I opened up my map and read aloud the areas that I had yet to explore.
Newmill listened attentively and then explained, “It shouldn’t take more than a few hours to visit all those places and complete your quest. Do you have anything in mind for what to do afterwards?”
I didn’t. In fact, I did, but there was too much to choose from. “Hmm, there is one thing I want to try.” Now that I had this disguise, I wanted to make the most of looking like an adult again.
“What is it?”
“Love,” I said. “I want to confess my love to the person that I have a crush on.”
Newmill’s face slowly turned a bright shade of red. “Ehh? You have a crush on someone? Since when?”
I thought back to Frome and her elegant beauty. “Ever since the soiree that we attended.” She had a refined charm that captivated my heart. Her boldness was matched only by her compassion. “I’ve liked her since then.”
“Oh, wow…” Newmill was more flustered than I thought he’d be. “I didn’t know you liked her. I mean, I did sense a chemistry between the two of you but…”
“You thought we had chemistry?” I interrupted. “Do you think she likes me too?” I was surprised that Newmill even knew about Frome. He didn’t seem to be that close with her at the soiree.
“Uhm, I’m not sure. Maybe.” Newmill twiddled his thumbs together.
“That’s good enough for me.”
“You’re not going to wear that when you confess are you?” He pointed at my disguise. “She won’t take you seriously if you keep that on.”
“Quite the contrary, actually. She won’t take me seriously if I don’t look like this.” Frome would brush me aside in my child form. “But you do bring up a good point.” I was too short for my costume to be convincing. However, using the stilts would make it look like I was drunk. Frome would definitely be put off if I declared by love for her while tipsy. I had to become taller but still walk normally, and walking normally was only possible with normal legs. There was only one way to do it. I’d have to sit on Newmill’s shoulders and have him be my legs. I was unsure of whether Newmill was willing or if his body was strong enough to support mine. “Newmill, when I confess, can I count on you for support?”
Newmill nodded and formed a determined look on his face. “Of course I’ll support you, Yarm! You’ve got this.”
