132: The Unlucky Fellow at the Opening Ceremony

Afterwards, Evelia spent the entire afternoon at the orphanage with the little ones.

The scale of this comfort activity was indeed quite large. Evelia even spotted quite a few figures she had only seen on television before. Some of them simply came to deliver donated supplies or funds to the orphanage, made a brief appearance at the opening ceremony, and then left. The remaining portion would mingle and chat with each other at the venue after the opening ceremony ended, their glasses clinking amid all sorts of mutual flattery and business-speak.

Only the last small group would come over to interact with the children after the opening ceremony ended. But even then, they only chatted briefly with the slightly older children, around twelve or thirteen years old. As for the bunch of little ones Evelia was watching... it wasn't that those people didn't come over to offer comfort. It was just that these little ones preferred pretty older sisters like Evelia or Amya over those "boring adults."

Among those who stayed, there were even a few who came over to strike up conversations with Evelia and the others. But basically all of them hit a wall. Evelia herself didn't enjoy talking with these obviously ulterior-motivated types. She was basically always with the little ones, and when someone came over to chat, she would give them the cold shoulder. Meanwhile, our Miss Angel finally remembered that "dignity worth a few Fu-Fus" she always talked about. Apart from when she was with Evelia, she basically maintained a cold and aloof demeanor that warned strangers to keep their distance.

There were a few bold ones who tried to summon the courage to chat with Amya. But without exception, they were all driven away by Amya's haughty gaze, as if she were looking at some lower life form.

Only our Miss Saint would politely exchange a few words with people when they came over to chat, out of consideration for her position as Saint. But her language was basically quite professional, giving those who wanted to use the opportunity to get closer to her for their own benefit absolutely no chance to make a move.

In stark contrast to the girls was a certain defeated dog of a young man who still held fantasies about Evelia. What surprised Evelia quite a bit was that Zhang Anran's background seemed quite impressive. Basically every big shot who came to participate in the activity knew him. Zhang Anran himself was calling this one "Uncle So-and-So" and that one "Auntie So-and-So," appearing to have quite decent relationships with all those important figures.

She had only heard Zhang Anran say before that his father was in business and their family circumstances were fairly decent. But now it seemed that brat had definitely been engaging in false modesty! If it were really just "fairly decent," would those people who enjoyed fame in various fields in the human world have their first reaction upon seeing him be to ask him to send their regards to his parents?

Pretentious dog, pah!

But speaking of the funniest thing today, that would definitely have to be when Evelia spotted an "acquaintance" in the crowd. More precisely, a lucky fellow who had been visited by Evelia before.

And the reason this lucky fellow had been targeted by Evelia back then was because when documents came down from above requiring all high schools to guarantee students their weekend holidays, this fellow, as the Director of the Education Bureau, not only accepted benefits from several schools to turn a blind eye to their forced make-up classes, but even went so far as to open the identities of several students who called in to report them and hand them over to the schools, all to show his sincerity. This directly sparked public outrage among the students at the time. For a while, students at every school were cursing this fellow.

And our Miss Evelia, as a champion of justice, when facing this kind of bribe-taking, dereliction-of-duty bastard, naturally delivered a heavy blow! The make-up classes were in the morning, the students went to report them at noon, the identities were revealed in the afternoon, and Evelia, naturally, on a dark and windy night, went directly to this official's home to have a nice long chat with him about life and ideals.

That night, the miserable students sitting in their classrooms during evening study session while trash-talking this official could not possibly know that while they were suffering the torture known as forced fee-based make-up classes, that bastard who in their words should be sliced to pieces, drawn and quartered, skinned, beaten with large planks, cut a thousand times, and finally sent to the eighteenth layer of hell to never be reincarnated, had nearly experienced every single one of the punishments they had spoken of...

However, considering the specific nature and circumstances of this matter, Evelia didn't really do that much to this person. She just made him slightly unable to live yet unable to die, mentally speaking. Later, after this fellow sobbed and sniveled while promising never to embezzle or torture students again, she let him go.

She just hadn't expected to run into him here of all places...

But unlike Evelia, this official couldn't recognize Evelia. Just like last time when she took out that rich young master, Evelia had appeared before him in the illusion of a sheep-headed demon. So until this official was crying on the ground begging Evelia to spare him, he had never seen Evelia's true appearance.

Although this person didn't recognize who Evelia was, when he noticed Evelia's gaze and subconsciously looked in her direction, he likewise felt a suffocating pressure and sense of despair that nearly choked him. This frightened the now-prominent big leader in the education world so badly that after hurriedly exchanging pleasantries with a few others, he fled the orphanary like a stray dog under the puzzled gazes of everyone else, without stopping.

……

"Pfft... I was wondering why that suit-wearing uncle's expression instantly changed after making eye contact with you! Hahahahahaha!"

"Sigh, Amya, stop laughing! How was I supposed to know that guy has such huge psychological trauma from me? Even without recognizing who I was, he still ran away that fast after I looked at him? I clearly didn't bully him that much back then!"

Well, she just made him experience all the tortures from the eighteen layers of hell in traditional culture three or four times back-to-back in an illusion. A grown adult, surely he can withstand a little pain like that?

Evelia pouted, her heart filled with disdain for that official.

Just now, the orphanage teachers had taken the playing children out to have fun according to the pre-arranged schedule. Evelia and the others had originally planned to go along too. But considering that they still had to work with Jasmine later to expose that old bastard Victor's true nature to the public, it would be awkward if she came back looking for them and they happened to be gone. Left with no choice, Evelia stayed behind with Amya to help out at the orphanage.

As for Jasmine herself, according to what she said, she had gone to gather and organize more evidence and clues related to Victor. But Evelia was quite puzzled about how exactly Jasmine was going to collect more evidence. After all, most of the children transferred out from the orphanage had gone to monasteries abroad. The distance was too vast. Gathering evidence wasn't exactly an easy task.
