147: To Kill You, Three Strikes Are Enough
"...Overestimating yourself."
Seeing that Lina still wanted to resist, the cloaked figure lightly shook his head. Then, with casual indifference, he raised his hand toward Lina, extending his index finger to point at her from afar, and softly spoke: "First strike!"
In an instant, a spatial rift suddenly appeared before Lina. A black mud emanating an unsettling and eerie aura gushed forth from it, gathering in mid-air to form a blade-wielding phantom identical to the cloaked figure.
"What!?"
Lina instantly sensed something wrong and hurriedly held the Black Keys in her hand horizontally in front of her. However, that phantom wielding a pitch-black greatsword had already arrived before Lina in a flash. Without the slightest tenderness, the greatsword in its hand, wreathed in pitch-black magic, slashed toward Lina without hesitation.
"Snap!"
With no room to resist, the six Black Keys in Lina's hand instantly snapped apart. Lina herself was also sent flying by this terrifying sword strike in an instant. However, as a former Saint Substitute, Lina's combat experience was still quite rich. Almost the instant that pitch-black aberrant greatsword was about to touch her body, a shield woven from God-given Magic formed before Lina, blocking this sword strike that should have cut her in half at the waist.
Lina, sent flying backward, condensed a glistening Spear of Judgment in mid-air, then adjusted her posture and balance. When she landed, she managed to steady herself in time using the spear in her hand.
But at the same time, the shock and gravity in her eyes as she looked at the cloaked figure grew even stronger.
This guy's power was far above her own.
"You blocked it? Then, second strike!"
Seeing that his attack hadn't taken Lina down in one blow, the cloaked figure's scarlet eyes were also filled with surprise. However, he quickly calmed down and once again pointed at Lina from afar.
Instantly, another spatial rift unfolded before Lina. A second blade-wielding phantom revealed its form from within and, together with the previous phantom, slashed toward Lina.
However, this time Lina had clearly prepared in advance to meet this attack. She lightly leaped to the side, first dodging the pitch-black sword energy slashed from the distant figure, then horizontally positioned her spear to block the greatsword swung by the newly appeared phantom.
The next moment, the hilts of two Black Keys dropped from within Lina's cloak. Taking advantage of the moment, Lina released the Spear of Judgment in her hand, leaped high, and forcefully kicked the back of both Black Key hilts.
"Swish swish!"
The instant the Black Keys were kicked out by Lina, pure white blades were instantly woven in mid-air. These two Black Keys shot forth like arrows leaving the bowstring, piercing through the bodies of both phantoms in an instant.
As their bodies were pierced through, the phantoms' forms rapidly collapsed like mud figures entering water, ultimately transforming into two puddles of black mud emanating a repressive and gloomy aura. The two Black Keys that had pierced through their bodies also fell into the piles of black mud as a result. Whether it was the pure white magic blades or the black hilts, all were eroded by that bizarre black mud and completely rendered useless.
"..."
Facing Lina, who had undone her technique after just one encounter, the cloaked figure not only showed no anger, but a hint of approval even flashed through his eyes. He jumped down from the street lamp and spoke to Lina in a low voice.
"...Executor, even among the Church's Executors, you should be considered outstanding. One last chance. Hand over Howard's Recording Orb, and I will permit you to leave."
Howard. He mentioned Father. Sure enough...
Upon hearing that the other party had truly come for her father's belongings, the small face hidden beneath Lina's hood instantly darkened. This cloaked figure's black mud was too bizarre. If Lina guessed correctly, this might be...
The "black mud" mentioned by Father's image in the Recording Orb?
But in that case, Lina was even less likely to hand over the Recording Orb.
She lightly waved her hand. Golden threads surged forth from around her, weaving one Spear of Judgment after another at her side, their sharp tips all pointing uniformly at the cloaked figure.
She had already made her response through her actions.
"...A pity."
The cloaked figure shook his head as if lamenting something. Then, he gently placed his right hand over his left chest, slowly reaching to touch the spot where his heart should have been beating.
The next moment, a pitch-black magic vortex emerged from the cloaked figure's chest. A completely black sword hilt covered in black mud slowly protruded from the vortex.
The cloaked figure grabbed the hilt without hesitation and yanked it outward with force!
"Boom!"
A loud sound rang out as the cloaked figure pulled out a sword hilt emanating an ominous aura of death from his own heart. Four massive fragments wrapped in black mud orbited around the hilt's body.
The cloaked figure slowly raised the hilt in his hand. The fragments surrounding him all gathered together, forming the greatsword's blade and guard.
A pitch-black aberrant blade, that massive sun-wheel-shaped guard resembling white bone, and the bizarre black mud flowing through the greatsword's crevices. All of these demonstrated this sword's strangeness and power.
The cloaked figure held the greatsword, its tip pointing directly at Lina's head, and spoke softly.
"To kill you, three strikes are enough."
"..."
Looking at the aberrant greatsword in the cloaked figure's hand, Lina remained silent, saying nothing. She only silently tightened her grip on the spear in her hand.
If she had only suspected before, now Lina was almost certain.
The aura of death. What this cloaked figure was using was precisely that Death Magic which had killed Father!
Most critically, back then on Father's remains, there had been an extremely terrifying, savage sword wound that had nearly cut his entire body in half at the waist.
And now, in the hands of this cloaked figure who wanted to obtain Father's remains and was using Death Magic, there happened to be a greatsword extremely similar to that wound.
The answer was self-evident.
He was the murderer who had killed Father!
When enemies meet, their eyes redden with hatred. Lina raised her head, her eyes filled with loathing as she looked at the cloaked figure.
"Farewell."
The cloaked figure sighed softly. His figure instantly transformed into a pitch-black stream of light, flashing before Lina, and he slashed down without hesitation!
Lina gritted her teeth and similarly swung the Spear of Judgment in her hand to directly meet the cloaked figure's aberrant greatsword.
But unsurprisingly, the Spear of Judgment was severed.
The tremendous impact sent Lina falling backward.
And the cloaked figure's blade was already within inches of her.
『As expected, I'm no match?』
Lina closed her eyes. She had anticipated this outcome.
Even her father, a Cardinal like him, had been killed by this cloaked figure before her eyes. How could a nun like her, who had fallen for a full two years, possibly be his opponent?
"I'm sorry... Dear Noren. Tonight... I probably won't be coming back..."
Facing this inevitable death strike so close at hand, Lina knew she couldn't block it, so she completely gave up resisting.
The oncoming sword wind, as a result, easily blew off the hood from Lina's head.
