VINCENT

Reject her?

How absurd! The word echoed in my mind, sounding completely ridiculous. I had just found my fated mate after all this time, the one person destined for me, and the very next thing she wants from me is a rejection.

She was demanding that I break the sacred bond before we even had a chance to speak properly, and the sheer nerve of it astounded me.

It was not like I actually wanted her anyway, so she didn’t need to feel so superior.

Our connection was highly inconvenient for my own plans. Her brothers will die by my hands very soon, and I didn’t want anything to hinder me or get in the way of my sweet revenge.

Having a mate tied to the very family I was planning to destroy was a massive complication I didn’t ask for.

But her asking for the rejection so quickly and so carelessly deeply hurts my pride. It was a direct insult to my masculinity and my wolf.

And because of that stubborn pride, I made up my mind instantly: I will never reject her. I was not going to let her dictate the terms of our relationship or give her the satisfaction of walking away completely untouched.

I slowly stood up, straightening my back after the sharp pain in my lower body had subsided a bit. I took a deep breath, shaking off the lingering ache from her sudden kick, and stepped closer to her again.

"I won’t reject you, Anabel. Consider the hairpin on your head as a token of our love!" I said with a mischievous smile, watching her reaction closely.

I wanted to tease her, to rile her up, and to show her that she didn’t hold all the power in this room.

Anabel’s face darkened instantly, a deep scowl covering her features. "Shut up!" She yelled, her voice trembling with pure frustration. "There is no love between us, and I’m in love with someone else." She paused, taking a sharp breath as she glared at me with absolute fury. "And you aren’t the Lycan prince, so how can this hairpin serve as our love token?" She asked, crossing her arms defensively.

She thought she was being smart, pointing out what she believed to be a massive flaw in my logic.

I smiled, a slow, knowing grin spreading across my face. She was completely clueless, and it was highly entertaining to watch.

"Look around, Anabel!" I said calmly, gesturing with my hand toward the grand space. "What does this room speak of?" I asked, keeping my tone steady and inviting her to finally open her eyes to the truth.

She turned her head and looked around the massive, luxurious space, taking in the royal decorations and the symbols of power that filled the room. Suddenly, the reality of where she was standing crashed down on her, and her face suddenly paled. All the anger drained from her expression, leaving only pure shock.

"Are you really—?" She asked, her voice dropping to a terrified whisper.

But she didn’t get to finish her sentence, as my inner wolf stirred restlessly at her close proximity, demanding her attention.

Moving fast, I stepped forward and captured her lips in a light, gentle kiss, effectively silencing her questions and sealing our fate together.

I really cannot tell what is wrong with me right now, but I just can’t control my inner wolf anymore.

It has a mind of its own today, and it just keeps yearning for her touch, begging for her closeness with a wild intensity that I cannot seem to suppress.

And it is all entirely wrong, because she isn’t the woman I love. My heart belongs to someone else, yet my animal instincts are screaming for the woman standing right in front of me, throwing all my carefully laid plans into complete chaos.

"She isn’t Maria, Vincent!" I told myself immediately, repeating the words like a strict command inside my head as I tried with all my might to get control over my body and my rampaging beast.

I needed to remember the woman I actually desired, the one I had been dreaming about all this time.

And to my absolute surprise, it actually worked. The mental reminder acted like a splash of ice-cold water, waking me up instantly.

I immediately pulled away from the kiss, breaking the contact completely. I stepped back and wiped my lips with the back of my hand in disgust, making a big show of it as I stared at her with cold, unfeeling eyes.

Anabel’s eyes flashed with pure fury at my insulting gesture. Before I could even react, she raised her hand up high and snapped it forward, slapping me incredibly hard across my face.

The loud crack echoed off the walls of the room, and a sharp, stinging pain flared up on my cheek.

But instead of feeling annoyed or angry about the physical blow, I actually felt a wave of relief because I was finally back in control of myself. The wolf was quiet again, and my human mind was firmly in charge.

My smile deepened, turning into a mocking grin despite the stinging pain on my skin. "Tell me, Anabel, who is it you love so much?" I asked casually, leaning back slightly and crossing my arms to show her that her little slap hadn’t broken my confidence at all.

"You really want to know?" She asked annoyingly, her voice dripping with venom. She took a step closer, glare locking onto mine. "If I tell you his name right now, would you finally reject me and let me go?" She asked, desperate to find a way out of this fated bond.

I chuckled darkly at her desperation, enjoying the little game we were playing. "Of course I would..." I paused, letting the silence stretch out between us to mess with her head. "...but it will have to be on my own terms, not yours," I added, making sure she knew I still held all the power.

"Fine!" She yelled, completely losing her patience. "I’m in love with Noah." She paused, chest heaving as she delivered the final blow. "Now reject me!" She added, demanding that I fulfill my promise immediately.

I froze instantly, the smug smile vanishing from my face as the name left her lips.

And suddenly, a massive, overwhelming wave of dark anger surged through my entire body, turning my blood to fire.

I can’t believe the woman I love, and the one given to me by the moon goddess all want one single person. Maria wanted him, and now my own fated mate was standing here admitting she loved him too.

How could one man steal everything from me?

And it is him—Noah. Always him, standing in my way and ruining my life.

"Arrrrghhhhh!" I clenched my fists tightly, the bones in my hands cracking under the pressure as I screamed inwardly with absolute rage.

I stared at the wall, my mind instantly making a deadly promise.

"I will get rid of you, Noah!" I thought with deep, dark determination.

He had to die.
