Vincent.
I immediately abandoned the empty room of the quadruplets and sprinted straight back toward the grand hall where the wedding had been taking place just moments ago. My heavy footsteps echoed thunderously down the long stone corridors as I ran at full speed, covering the vast distance in mere minutes.
By the time I burst through the hall’s double doors, I was panting wildly like a madman, my chest heaving desperately for air.
I had to see it for myself. I needed absolute confirmation that Noah was still trapped inside that hidden compartment. If he was still bound in that small space, then Maria would definitely still be somewhere within the pack boundaries.
Forget about the quadruplets—it was Noah she truly cared about above all else. She would never, under any circumstances, abandon him or flee without him by her side.
As long as I held him captive, I held the ultimate leverage; I could always use his life to force her to bow to my will and return straight to my arms.
Driven by this desperate hope, I reached the secluded compartment and yanked the door open without a second’s hesitation.
The moment the dark space was exposed, I froze dead in my tracks.
Nothing was inside. No one was there. The compartment stood completely and utterly vacant.
A cold wave of terror crashed over me, and my heart began hammering against my ribs at a sickening, frantic speed.
"Where the hell did he go?" I demanded aloud in sheer, unadulterated panic, my voice echoing off the empty walls of the compartment.
No way. This couldn’t be happening.
He couldn’t have gotten far, not from my territory. But the realization hit me like a physical blow: Maria hadn’t even known Noah was being kept in this exact hall. Even if they had somehow managed to orchestrate a joint escape in the middle of all the fire and chaos, a plan this seamless couldn’t have been improvised on the spot.
Had she been secretly plotting her escape all this time, right under my nose, waiting for the perfect moment to strike?
"Oh, shit!" I muttered under my breath, a wave of dark fury instantly replacing the terror in my blood.
Without wasting another single second, I reached into my mind, forced open a mind link, and aggressively searched for Alaric’s presence until the connection snapped into place.
"Alpha..." his voice echoed through the mental thread the exact instant we connected, sounding breathless and stressed from managing the remaining guards.
"I don’t care how you do it, or what resources you have to deploy, but chase after Maria right now!" I commanded, pausing just long enough to clench my fists so tightly that my knuckles popped and my nails bit into my palms. "She couldn’t have gone far!"
"Yes, Alpha!" he responded without a moment of hesitation.
Satisfied with his immediate obedience, I abruptly severed the mind link, letting the connection go completely dark as I stood alone in the empty hall, my mind racing with pure venom.
I was absolute, one hundred percent certain that they couldn’t have made it very far. When people act on wild impulse without proper planning, they are forced to leave everything to chance—and in my territory, relying on chance was a deadly, fatal mistake.
’Maria...’ I called out inwardly, her name tasting like ash on my tongue as my thoughts spiraled into a bitter storm. ’...I truly can’t believe you still chose him after everything I offered you, after everything I built for us.’
To think that she actually had the audacity to elope while still wearing her wedding dress. Isn’t that complete and utter insanity?
To run through the dirt and shadows in the very gown meant to mark her as my bride?
Why? Maria, why would you do this to me?
I shook my head violently, the overwhelming fury inside me finally boiling over. Unable to contain the rage tearing through my chest, I lashed out and shoved the empty compartment with all my strength, sending the heavy wooden structure crashing violently to the floor with a deafening thud. I panted heavily, using the destruction to vent even a fraction of the violent anger consuming me.
"Noah!" I snarled bitterly into the empty room, my voice dripping with pure venom. "It’s all your fault."
Yes, it was all his fault. Everything traces back to him.
What on earth does he actually possess that makes every single woman desperately want to be with him?
What kind of sick spell does he hold over them? My mate, my lover... both of them preferred to run to him, choosing to stand by his side rather than stay with me.
The sheer humiliation and betrayal of it pierced deeper than any blade, as my heart ached instantly.
My face darkened to a terrifying, lethal mask at the realization. I gritted my teeth so hard my jaw throbbed, while my hands clenched into white-knuckled fists that trembled with unchecked fury.
’I will deal with you, Noah,’ I vowed silently, the promise searing itself into my very soul. ’I will break you until there is nothing left.’
With that dark, unyielding vow locked firmly in my heart, I turned on my heel and marched straight toward the hidden room.
The time for games was over. It was time to put an end to all of this chaos once and for all, and make every single one of them pay dearly for crossing me.
As my heavy, furious strides carried me down the corridor toward the room, I forced open a mind link and aggressively summoned Daniel.
"Lycan—" he started the second the connection snapped into place, his voice smooth and composed.
I didn’t let him finish his sentence.
"What the hell are you doing?!" I roared through the mental thread, letting my violent rage explode across the link. "Your prey just escaped right under your nose... go after them right now!" I ordered, leaving zero room for argument.
