Maria.

I was still deeply puzzled, watching Adrien’s dark expression closely, when suddenly a massive troupe of armed soldiers emerged from the dense treeline to our right.

The surrounding vegetation rustled violently as they spilled out into the open, their horses coming to an abrupt, coordinated halt directly facing us.

"Oh well!" a familiar voice rang out, cutting sharply through the tense, heavy quiet as his horse stepped forward from within the center of the troupe. "Isn’t this a pleasant meeting?"

The figure finally rode into the full moonlight, coming into clear view, and my face darkened instantly as terror mixed with boiling anger in my chest. It was Daniel.

What on earth does he want now?

He had almost killed Davian back then in our previous encounter, and now he was standing directly in front of us again, backed by an entire army of armed warriors.

"Daniel!" Davian’s voice rang out sharply through the forest, laced with unmistakable anger.

Every syllable trembled beneath the weight of his irritation and barely restrained outrage as he fixed Daniel with a fierce, unwavering glare. The tension radiating from him seemed to spread into the very air around us.

"What is the meaning of this?" he demanded, his tone hard and unyielding. "What could you possibly want now?"

Beneath him, his horse shifted restlessly, pawing at the ground and tossing its head as though it could sense the hostility hanging heavily between the two men. Even the animal seemed unsettled by the suffocating atmosphere.

Daniel answered with nothing more than a soft chuckle.

The sound was low, strange, and disturbingly hollow, echoing through the darkness of the forest in a way that made the silence around it feel even more unsettling. It lingered in the air for a brief moment before gradually fading away.

Then, almost instantly, the amusement disappeared.

The faint smile slipped from Daniel’s face as though it had never existed, his features slowly hardening into something far more disturbing. His expression darkened, twisting into a mask of pure, unrestrained madness.

"What do I want?" he repeated, tilting his head to one side at an unnatural, almost grotesque angle, he let out another short, hysterical laugh before locking his eyes onto Davian once more. "I want your heads, Davian!"

"You—" Davian roared, snapping his reins and attempting to march forward on his horse to attack, but Adrien immediately reached out, grabbed his mount’s bridle, and pulled him back, shaking his head gently to keep him from charging blindly into a trap.

Daniel’s eyes burned with a lethal intensity as he stared down the brothers. "You four are going to pay for the heinous sins you committed two years ago!" he declared firmly, his voice booming across the clearing with absolute conviction.

"Sin?" Aidan repeated softly, his brows furrowing as he met the rogue’s wild gaze.

"What exactly happened two years ago?" Damien asked out of genuine curiosity, his analytical mind searching through his memories for whatever event could have spawned such deep, relentless hatred.

"You absolute bastards!" Daniel screamed, his voice cracking with uncontrollable rage as he gripped his weapons tight. "Stop acting as though you aren’t aware! Stop pretending you don’t remember what you did!"

"Can you just stop speaking in riddles and hit the point?!" Adrien yelled, his harsh voice slicing through the tense stillness as he glared at Daniel.

"Oh, I will," Daniel spat back, pausing for a dramatic beat. "Two years ago, you marched into the Watercrest Pack, and you slaughtered every single soul in it—including my parents..." He paused, his throat bobbing as he swallowed hard against a sudden surge of grief. "...The Beta and Beta Luna of the pack."

The quadruplets all remained entirely silent, their cold, unreadable expressions almost seeming to affirm his heavy accusation.

"Not just that," Daniel continued, his voice trembling with a terrifying blend of rage and sorrow. "Two of your elite guards brutally murdered my best friend and brother—the Alpha of the pack! Now tell me, shouldn’t you pay for that atrocity with your heads?"

"Who on earth fed you with such utter nonsense?" Adrien asked suddenly, his tone dropping into a cool, sharp calm that cut right through Daniel’s fiery tirade.

Daniel was slightly taken aback by the reaction, his wild eyes blinking in momentary shock before he found his footing again. "I saw it happen with my own two eyes!" he yelled, leaning forward over his saddle.

"Are you saying you saw *us* with your own eyes?" Aidan asked, narrowing his eyes as he pressed the point.

Daniel immediately kept quiet, his brows furrowing as a flicker of deep confusion crossed his face. "What exactly are you trying to say?" he yelled back, his composure beginning to fray at the edges.

"Two years ago!" Damien started, stepping his horse forward a fraction. "My brothers and I were locked away in deep seclusion." He paused, letting the weight of the statement settle over the silent woods. "We never once stepped out..."

But he didn’t even get to finish his sentence before Daniel’s booming voice echoed through the trees.

"Enough!" he roared, shaking his head in violent denial. "You are all just trying to trick me!" He paused, pointing a trembling finger toward the brothers. "You are all lying!"

Aidan chuckled, a low, humorless sound that drifted through the cold air. "Are we lying... or is the person who fed you that story?" he asked smoothly.

Daniel let out a harsh, mocking laugh. "You all, of course!" He paused, his jaw tightening. "Unless, of course, you can actually prove it."

Damien laughed out slowly, a calm, supremely confident smile touching his lips. "And what if we can prove it?" he said, his tone entirely unbothered.

The color on Daniel’s face paled instantly, the certainty in his bloodthirsty posture draining away as doubt took root.

I, on the other hand, pressed my back closer against Noah’s chest, my mind spinning as I tried to process the shock.

What on earth is actually going on here?
