Chapter 2121: Chapter 511: Powerless, the Truth Revealed

As night fell, the entire villa was so silent you could hear a pin drop, a silent sorrow spreading through it.

Yun Ya carried the freshly brewed medicine to the door of Zhuang Xiyue’s room. After hesitating for a moment, she knocked on the door.

"Aunt Zhuang, may I come in?"

After a brief silence, Zhuang Xiyue’s weak and hoarse voice came from inside: "Come in."

Yun Ya pushed the door open and entered.

The room was dimly lit by a bedside lamp. Zhuang Xiyue lay in bed, while Yan Nanmo was sitting on a sofa not far away, reviewing documents. When he saw Yun Ya come in, he nodded at her amidst his busy schedule, then lowered his head again to bury himself in the intricate work.

Zhuang Xiyue’s face appeared particularly pale under the lamp, her eyes red and swollen. As Yun Ya came in, she tried to prop herself up, but Yan Nanmo quickly dropped the documents, hurried over in two strides, and held Zhuang Xiyue’s body in his arms, frowning as he said, "Lie down, don’t move."

Zhuang Xiyue rolled her eyes at him, waving him off: "Go back to work, don’t worry about me. I’m not made of glass, I’m not that fragile."

Yan Nanmo didn’t loosen his embrace even slightly, and, taking the medicine bowl Yun Ya handed over, he spoke gently to Yun Ya, "Yun Ya, we’ll need to trouble you for a while."

Yun Ya pursed her lips and smiled, "It’s my duty."

The sincerity in Yan Nanmo’s eyes deepened. Ever since the incident with his sister, Yueyue had fallen ill. If it weren’t for Yun Ya, who knows how chaotic things would be at home. Yun Ya was a capable young woman, handling everything inside and out smoothly. Even Uncle Chen showed her great respect.

Though this child’s background was unfortunate, she was exceptionally intelligent and attentive, and she was the one Ah Song loved deeply. No matter what the future held, Yan Nanmo was sure she would be his daughter-in-law.

Zhuang Xiyue coughed weakly, lying bonelessly in Yan Nanmo’s arms, looking apologetically at Yun Ya, "I’m sorry for causing you trouble."

Yun Ya sat down on the chair by the bed, smiled, and said, "Aunt Zhuang, you need to get better quickly."

Pausing for a moment, she continued, "The departure of the elder sister might be a kind of release. Perhaps she has reunited with the one she’s been longing to see in heaven. We should be happy for her."

Zhuang Xiyue understood this logic all too well, but she found it hard to accept her sister’s passing. Indeed, what is the point of living if that person is no longer in this world? Especially knowing the depth of her sister’s feelings for him. As long as she didn’t know about him, she could still deceive herself and drag on. But now that everything had come to light, given her sister’s character, she would never live on in this world. Perhaps leaving was the best outcome for her sister.

Yet no amount of reasoning could convince her own heart. Fate, after all, was not kind to her sister.

Zhuang Xiyue lowered her eyelashes, softly said, "I understand."

Yan Nanmo scooped some medicine, brought it to Zhuang Xiyue’s lips, and she obediently drank it. The atmosphere was silent and somber.

Neither of them noticed when Yun Ya left.

"Mom and Dad mustn’t find out about this. They wouldn’t be able to bear it."

Yan Nanmo gently stroked her head, spoke softly, "Don’t worry, I’ve talked to my older brother on the phone. He’ll arrive by tomorrow morning. My sister-in-law will stay home to take care of Mom and Dad. But we can’t keep it hidden forever...."

Thinking about it, Zhuang Xiyue’s eyes reddened again, and she muttered into Yan Nanmo’s arms, "Then let’s hide it for as long as we can."

Of the three children, their parents always spoiled their sister the most, probably because of her background. They pitied her, gave her more love. She remembered when she was young, she quarreled with her sister over toys, and her sister would magnanimously give them up. When their mother found out, it was always her who got scolded and punished. Back then, she was resentful and felt wronged, but later, as she grew older and learned about her sister’s past, she admired her sister’s magnanimity even more.

Now that her sister was gone, who knew how heartbroken their parents would be once they found out.

Thinking of something, Zhuang Xiyue gritted her teeth and said, "That Liang Wenwan, it was all because of her. She’ll have to pay for my sister’s life."

Yan Nanmo frowned. He had some understanding of what happened, and although all the evidence pointed to Liang Wenwan, he had a feeling there was more to the story. However, given Yueyue’s agitated state, it was best not to provoke her even further.

Stepping out of the room, Yun Ya was approached by Uncle Chen, who said, "Miss Ji, please have a look at the guest list for the day after tomorrow’s party. Let me know if any changes are needed."
