Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Mr. Grant’s Heart
Seraphina Sterling had originally intended to thank Terrence Grant for his help. In Tollan Town, the only person with the power to make the police chief issue a direct order—and who she had a connection with—was Terrence Grant. She couldn’t think of anyone else who would have stepped in to help her.
She just hadn’t expected to arrive at Grant Manor and find some perverted doctor staunching Terrence Grant’s bleeding and stitching him up. The entire room reeked of blood.
"What happened?" She knew Terrence Grant’s abilities all too well. For him to be this seriously injured, the situation must have been extraordinarily dangerous.
Hughes gave Seraphina Sterling a long, hard look. ’If the young master hadn’t heard that her house was on fire during the operation, he wouldn’t have decided to take such a reckless gamble to complete the mission in the shortest time possible.’
Terrence Grant shot Hughes a look, then grunted out two words, "It’s nothing."
’It’s nothing? Could he be this hurt if it were nothing?’ Seraphina Sterling scoffed inwardly. But since Terrence Grant clearly didn’t want to talk about it, she didn’t press the issue.
But even injured, the man lost none of his wild, arrogant posture. Only he knew what lay hidden behind those deep, inscrutable eyes. Still, even as he used brazen arrogance as a mask, Seraphina Sterling sensed the chill hidden to his very core.
"Satisfied with what you see?" Terrence Grant asked, looking at the clearly dazed Seraphina Sterling. Though his subordinates had already told him that only the house had burned and that she and her mother were unharmed, he couldn’t truly rest easy until he saw her with his own eyes.
’If you want to put on an act, then I’ll play along.’ The corners of Seraphina Sterling’s lips quirked up. "It’s average."
For a moment, Terrence Grant was utterly captivated. Her warm, lingering smile, the faint hint of dimples, her brilliant eyes sparkling with a touch of defiance—that vibrant, lively expression. To Terrence Grant, every last detail was powerfully alluring.
Seraphina Sterling, however, was oblivious to this. "Thank you for your help this time. You’re not likely to need my help often, but if you ever run into something I can help with, just let me know."
"Alright," Terrence Grant grunted. ’She may have completed her training,’ he thought, ’but now they were entangled once more.’
Seraphina Sterling glanced at Terrence Grant’s wound and, after much hesitation, finally spoke. "Don’t be too confident. The most unreliable thing in this world is the human heart. You never know who will truly be with you until the very end."
’If she remembered correctly, in her previous life, Mr. Grant of Aethelgard had died young. A man as formidable as him... how could he have died so young unless he was betrayed?’
"Then what about you? Will you always be by my side?" Terrence Grant never expected her to say something like that. After a moment of shock, the question slipped out almost subconsciously.
Seraphina Sterling’s brow furrowed. ’She was just trying to warn him to be wary of those around him, and this is the question he asks?’ Staring into his deep eyes, she pondered for a moment before replying, "I won’t become your enemy."
Long after Seraphina Sterling had left, Terrence Grant still stared in the direction she had gone, her words echoing in his mind. *I won’t become your enemy.* There was nothing wrong with that answer, and yet... it left him feeling vaguely dissatisfied. He couldn’t figure out why, which only made him more frustrated than he had ever been.
Having been by Terrence Grant’s side for nearly ten years, Hughes was the first to notice the shift in his mood. "Young Master, have you fallen for Seraphina Sterling?"
Terrence Grant froze. ’Fallen for her?’ The feeling was too foreign to him.
’Seraphina Sterling... Talented, smart, and a hard worker. She had her share of cunning, her little schemes, her little tricks. She always wore a warm smile, but that didn’t mean her feelings matched it. Her voice was always gentle, but her presence was often surprisingly powerful. And aside from Kimberly Jennings, she seemed indifferent to everyone else.’
Terrence Grant hadn’t even realized it himself, but slowly, unwittingly, Seraphina Sterling had found her way into his heart and left a deep impression.
"Young Master, if you really do like Seraphina Sterling, you’d better keep a close eye on her. She’s only in high school, and girls at that age are just starting to have crushes. It’s so easy for them to get into some puppy-love romance. And they always say first love is the most unforgettable. What if she falls for her deskmate or some other classmate? That would be a disaster!"
Hughes was genuinely worried. ’It was so rare for the young master to like someone. Seraphina Sterling might be a little young, but she’d be an adult soon enough. He could keep her close for now, and once she was old enough, they could get married. It was far better than the young master remaining single!’
An image of Seraphina Sterling with another man immediately flashed through Terrence Grant’s mind, and a wave of possessiveness washed over him. "Who would dare to even think about the woman I’ve set my sights on?"
That was just the kind of man Terrence Grant was. Anything he set his sights on, he would get under his control by any means necessary. Unless her heart remained unmoved, she could only belong to him.
Little did Seraphina Sterling know, a certain wolf had already set its sights on her.
It was also time to put the Jennings Family in their place. Especially Aria Cheney.
