Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Beginning to Shine (3)
For a moment, all the students on the field gazed at Seraphina Sterling, their eyes filled with admiration!
For her courage!
For her boldness!
For her wit!
"Don’t get so full of yourself! Do you really think Marshal is afraid of you? Let me tell you, he could make it impossible for you to stay in Sanford in a heartbeat! You’d better tone it down!" Crystal Marshall, seeing her chance, began to vocally support Marshal.
"Marshal, I’m quite curious about your selection criteria for this winter camp. Seeing as you even selected *this* student," Seraphina said, gesturing toward Crystal, "I can only imagine how... peculiar those standards must be! I’d really like to know, if this student were to get into a conflict with another participant and slap them across the face, how would you, as the president of the host’s student council, resolve the situation?"
Seraphina watched Marshal with great interest. ’He’s smart and from a political family. He’s not lacking in ability, cunning, or shrewdness, but in my eyes, it’s still not enough!’
Marshal shot Crystal Marshall a warning glance before turning to Seraphina. "Congratulations. You’ve convinced me. Each of the town high schools participating in the winter camp may select one person to stay for the exchange program. However, all participants must follow my commands, strictly adhere to the camp’s rules, and do absolutely nothing to bring shame upon our school or our nation!"
’As expected of the son of a top official. He has so much charisma!’
The students on the field erupted in cheers. They had all thought their chance to join the winter camp was gone. They never expected such a sudden turn of events. The students who could now stay looked at Seraphina Sterling, their hearts filled with gratitude. This was all thanks to her!
Seraphina Sterling let out a soft sigh of relief. ’I can finally stay! There’s hope for me to skip a grade now!’
The teams from other provinces and cities participating in the winter camp didn’t begin to arrive until evening. As the hosts, the participants from Sanford First High School were divided into several groups to welcome the students from the different regions.
Marshal personally assigned Seraphina Sterling to his team, much to the annoyance of their other teammates, Michelle Galloway and Crystal Marshall.
Michelle Galloway said sternly, "Seraphina Sterling, I’m warning you. When we meet the students from Aethelgard First High School, you keep your mouth shut. Don’t pretend you know what you’re talking about and end up embarrassing yourself. You’ll drag us down with you and make us a laughingstock!"
"Michelle’s right. Just keep your mouth shut the entire time. And keep that temper of yours in check. If you stir up trouble, no one’s going to be there to clean up your mess!" Crystal Marshall chimed in.
Seraphina Sterling just shrugged her shoulders and said nothing.
Marshal was also worried Seraphina’s temperament would cause trouble, so he didn’t stop the other two from warning her.
Seraphina decided to lie low. While welcoming the students from Aethelgard First High School, she made herself practically invisible, barely saying a word and maintaining no presence at all. The entire evening, the other three talked until their throats were parched and were so busy they didn’t have a moment to sit down. Meanwhile, Seraphina leisurely sipped her drink and sampled the food.
Of course, Seraphina wasn’t actually doing nothing. At the very least, she had figured out why this winter camp was so unusual.
Although Sanford was a provincial capital, it was still just in a southern province. An international winter camp of this prestige would normally be held in a major economic hub like Aethelgard or Veridia. And yet, this time it was set in Sanford.
There was an extremely important reason for this. Sanford, a city with a thousand years of history, had successfully been designated a site of Material Cultural Heritage. This was a first within Apex, and it created a major stir on the international stage. It was at the request of several nations that the international winter camp, originally slated for Aethelgard, was moved to Sanford.
