Chapter 260: Chapter 260: Who is the Goddess (2)
Kellan Sutton hailed from the Sutton Family, one of the nation’s four major jewelry corporations and a rival to the Gallagher Family of Aethelgard. Seraphina Sterling had previously met Franklin Sutton at the gem auction in Tollan Town—and Kellan Sutton was his son! But it was painfully obvious that Kellan didn’t possess half of his father’s skill.
"It’s just a pair of crappy earrings, isn’t it? The design and materials might be a little unusual, but they’re not valuable. They’re barely better than something you’d buy off the street! How can they possibly be as precious as the watch I gifted her?"
The moment Fiona Chapman saw the earrings, she fell in love. Young women have a soft spot for unique things; beyond mere price, they crave what is distinctive and one-of-a-kind. Seraphina Sterling’s gift managed to be both. Besides, she wasn’t the only one who adored the earrings. She had just seen the eyes of many of her friends light up the moment they saw them.
She could tell from their gazes that they absolutely adored them. Knowing that something they desired so much now belonged to her, it was safe to say Fiona Chapman’s vanity was deeply satisfied. She was still basking in that triumphant feeling when she heard Kellan Sutton’s words, and a wave of displeasure washed over her.
However, Kellan Sutton was too busy trying to curry favor with Faye Sterling, intent on helping her undermine Seraphina Sterling, so he was completely oblivious to Fiona Chapman’s expression as he continued speaking.
"You pull out a worthless trinket like this and have the audacity to claim your gift is more suitable for Fiona than the watch I gave her! Are you saying that, in your eyes, Fiona only deserves cheap junk like this? Isn’t that a bit insulting? Are you even here to celebrate Fiona’s birthday, or did you just come to make a scene?"
Seraphina Sterling remained unfazed. ’Kellan Sutton is just trying to provoke me with these insults,’ she thought. ’He wants me to fly into a rage and lose my composure in front of everyone. But he’s sorely underestimating my self-control.’
Seraphina Sterling shook her head, a look of pity on her face. "It seems that despite being born into the Sutton Family, your eye for quality is a far cry from your father’s. At your current skill level, you really should be learning more from Mr. Sutton. Otherwise, Sutton Jewelry is likely to go to ruin under your leadership. The legacy our parents’ generation built through blood, sweat, and tears—if we, the younger generation, fail to carry it on, we would be truly letting them down."
"At your current level of competence, you probably couldn’t even take over The Sutton Group, let alone lead it to greater heights. As a fellow member of the younger generation, Miss Chapman’s eye for things is much sharper than yours. In our parents’ generation, Sutton Jewelry may be larger in scale than the Chapman Family’s enterprise, but when it comes to your generation, that’s no longer a guarantee. If you don’t start working hard and learning properly from your father, you’ll easily be surpassed by Miss Chapman. In the future, the prestigious name of Sutton Jewelry might just fade into obscurity."
Seraphina Sterling observed the expressions on Kellan Sutton and Fiona Chapman. ’At their age, seventeen or eighteen, it’s only natural to be competitive and eager to one-up each other,’ she mused. ’Sowing discord between them should be quite effective.’
Although Seraphina Sterling was of a similar age to the others, her words were like pearls of wisdom, and they resonated deeply with her audience.
This was especially true for the heads of the great families gathered in the living room. Though not all of them were elderly, they were at least middle-aged, with children of their own. As family leaders and as parents, who among them didn’t hope for their company, their enterprise, to be taken to even greater heights by their children? Who didn’t wish for the business they had spent a lifetime building to flourish in their children’s hands?
It was just that the current generation of rich kids—be they second, third, or fourth generation—especially the younger ones, rarely possessed Seraphina Sterling’s kind of insight. All they seemed to know was how to enjoy life, how to party, and how to have a good time.
