Chapter 273: Chapter 273: Mr. Grant is a Beast (Part 1)
Without a moment’s hesitation, Seraphina Sterling lunged forward, fruit knife in hand. The intruder seemed to anticipate her move, evading the blade and seizing her wrist in one fluid motion. In the pitch-dark room, his eyes were incredibly deep, like those of a ferocious leopard hiding in the shadows—biding its time, waiting for the perfect moment. It wouldn’t strike unless the blow was guaranteed to be fatal.
"Terrence Grant?" The moment he seized her wrists, Seraphina knew. The sharp, killing intent she projected instantly subsided. Her soft voice, tinged with confusion, was like a feather tickling his heart.
"What are you doing here?" Seraphina tried to turn on the light, but Terrence didn’t release her. Instead, he pulled her into his embrace.
"If I hadn’t come, how would I have known my dear Seraphina was so popular? That another man would confess his feelings to her?" The thought alone made Terrence burn with anger. He’d been gone for only a few days, and she’d already attracted a suitor!
"You could have used the door, you know! It isn’t broken! Besides, this is the third floor! You just jumped in through the window? Anyone would have thought you were a burglar!"
Seraphina was speechless at his unorthodox methods. It was just like in Tollan—Terrence never seemed to use doors, always windows. Had he really picked up the habit back then?
"Are you sure you’d want me to walk through the front door? At this hour?" Terrence whispered, his warm breath tickling her ear.
At this hour? It was nearly eleven o’clock. If he knocked on the door and walked in right now, given his status as Mr. Grant of Aethelgard, and especially after the scene Wyatt Gallagher had just made, the Sterling household would erupt. Considering her mother’s attitude, her days here would be numbered. They’d marry her off in a heartbeat!
"It’s late. What do you want?" Seraphina decided to drop the issue of how he got in. It was late, she was getting sleepy, and she had more important things to do tomorrow.
"To punish a certain naughty girl, of course," Terrence said, then kissed her. He drove in relentlessly, leaving her no room to breathe. She wasn’t even eighteen and already such a magnet for trouble. It looked like his future was going to be difficult; he’d have to stay armed at all times, ready to fight off all these men with their ulterior motives.
Her hands showed no mercy, pinching his arm hard. Was this man insane? Launching a surprise attack like that, and with such a crushing kiss! This wasn’t a kiss; he was trying to devour her!
"Terrence Grant! First, I am not a child! Second, why should I have to listen to you? My mother might have acknowledged you, but I certainly haven’t!" Seraphina glared at him, her eyes wide. Her lips felt numb. She didn’t have to look in a mirror to know they were swollen.
"It doesn’t matter whether your mother acknowledges it, and it certainly doesn’t matter whether you do. You can only be mine," Terrence declared imperiously. "Unless you never marry, you will be Mrs. Grant." Once he decided something, no one could change his mind.
"Then you’ll be waiting a long time," Seraphina retorted, rolling her eyes in resignation. She had no desire to continue this pointless argument with him.
"You came to Aethelgard. Why didn’t you tell me?" Terrence asked, watching her expression closely. If Hughes hadn’t informed him, he still wouldn’t have known she was here.
Why should I have to tell you? Seraphina wanted to retort, but seeing the serious look on his face, remembering his earlier actions, and considering the vast difference in their physical strength, she didn’t have the courage to say it out loud. She chose another path. "Even if I hadn’t told you, you found out anyway, didn’t you?"
