Abby and Violet (Yuri Light Novel)
Vol.4 Rewrite, Chapter XXI — Soothing SilenceOn our drive home, Violet really got feeling down from discovering that Vanessa disliked her, and I couldn’t blame her, even if I wanted to tell her not to pay any mind to that. For Violet, someone who just wants to be able to live her life in peace with me, having someone actively spiting her was an unwanted thorn in the back of her mind.
Dad gave our friends a ride home before we got to my place, Violet being awfully silent during the trip. She always was quiet during car rides, but it felt terrible this time.
We—I, explained to dad what had happened, him offering his sympathies, not knowing what else to do or say. Honestly, I also didn’t quite know what to do other than snuggle with her in silence and let her process her feelings and thoughts while holding me. That, however, would have to wait, as once we got inside my apartment, we were met by Papa Stan and Sophie.
After a brief greeting, he explained that, since the weather was so bad outside, instead of having Sophie going to his place, he came to ours instead.
“Is everything all right, sweety?” he asked Violet as soon as he could, having immediately noticed.
“Yeah, it’s just,” Violet stammered, having difficulties putting things into words. “I guess I found out that someone really hates me.”
Stan frowned and cocked his head back while Sophie moved in closer, putting her hands on Violet’s arms as she asked with a soft voice who that person was.
“Some girl named Vanessa,” Violet mumbled. “I didn’t even know her name until this morning. I don’t even know fully well how she looks like.”
That information was very vague, so I did my best to explain her situation as briefly as possible as I wanted to move over letting Violet decompress today’s stress and tension instead of dwelling on it for even longer.
They said some words to try cheering her up, but with little effect, so I excused us so that we could take a hot shower to warm up.
And after the shower, I moved us over to our bedroom, taking Violet’s towel away and trying getting her into bed, but she resisted.
“We are just going to snuggle for a bit,” I explained to her. “Just that, no talking or doing anything else if you don’t feel like it.”
She chewed her tongue as she thought about it. Then, she made me turn around and dragged me inside the bed by the waist, my back resting on top of her chest and my head settling by hers, our noses touching as her hands came to rest on my lower stomach. Before mine joined hers, I made sure we were properly covered with our blankets, the inside of the bed quickly warming up from our body head. Well, mostly mine, but you get what I mean.
We stayed in silence, eyes half open locked into one another before Violet moved her head to stare blankly at the ceiling, me snuggling the side of her head, my nose now resting close to her ear.
Time slowly drifted away, a long moment having passed before Violet finally let out a long sigh and her hands began moving about my belly with a feather touch, my fingers also moving, tracing her forearms.
It was then I realised that I should have used the toilet before, but breaking away from this felt utterly wrong to do, so I’d hold on for now.
“This feels nice, doesn’t it?” I asked, attempting some conversation.
“…Yeah,” she hummed. “Sorry, I’ve been too quiet, haven’t I?”
“It’s fine in moments like this,” I assured her. “I know you need a moment to process emotions and thoughts, so don’t rush.”
“Hmm… thanks honey.”
She then gave my temple a gentle kiss and my body a little squeeze, making me let out a squeaky moan I didn’t meant to but that Violet seemed to enjoy, a little chuckle coming out of her.
Her body relaxed a bit more after that, time continuing to slowly tick away, our family chatting in the living room providing a background noise for the sound of our fingers brushing each other’s skin and our synced breathing.
“Do you think it will be ok if I carry on like I didn’t know that Vanessa hates me?” she asked me rather abruptly.
“Hmm… I’d think so,” I said, entangling my fingers with hers. “You might not make her like you ever, or even just become neutral, but I think that living your life like you’ve been doing until now won’t have any negative consequences.”
“Hmm… maybe you’re right,” she hummed. “Why… why didn’t you tell me about it before? You knew, didn’t you? That’s why you and Mathilda were so eager in beating her team, right?”
“Honestly, like Mathilda, I thought it didn’t matter,” I explained. “Yes, I knew about it, but I also thought that you knowing Vanessa dislikes you wouldn’t ever become relevant with how we live our life. I’m sorry if that upsets you.”
“Upset…” Violet droned. “I’m… I’m not upset. I guess… I was just curious to know why you didn’t tell me. And I get it.”
After a moment of pause, she let out a loud groan that startled me and got her hands free to clutch her head, complaining about how all of this was giving her a headache.
I couldn’t help but let out a tiny giggle, and say that that’s because she’s been thinking too much about it, Violet letting out another groan.
I waited to see what she was going to do next. That turned to be her hands going back under the blankets and finding mine, our fingers interlocking again before she started giving my face slow, gentle smooches that she’d let linger. I moved my head, our eyes meeting. She didn’t say a word, but I heard it loud and clear as I gave her a smile.
“As long as you have me, who cares, right?” I asked, knowing full well that was what had crossed her mind just then.”
“Fufu, yeah.”
We then kissed, our lips connecting but not parting. I moved my body so that I’d be belly down on Violet and wrapped my arms around her neck while our lips slowly smacked, our semi-closed eyes locked into one another.
When we did stop that kiss, we closed our eyes and rested our heads against one another, Violet making me squeak a moan again and letting out a sharp sigh, almost all of her tension leaving her body in that moment. The problem was still there, but she had tired herself of thinking about it and was fully enjoying my company and support now.
“You know, it’s a bit weird when I think about it,” she whispered, her breath tickling my face.
“Oh no, what’s coming out from that?” I giggled, also talking in a low tone.
“That you’re quite heavy for someone so small.”
“Jerk!” I spat, biting the tip of her nose.
“I didn’t finish,” she laughed, tapping my butt as a “punishment” for my over-reaction. “I know that you’re a bit heavier than you look because you have quite a fair amount of muscle despite also being a shortcake and quite thin. I worded it wrong. What I meant was, despite you being a bit heavier than you look, that never bothered me. In fact… thinking about it, you being a bit heavier makes it having you on top of me more comforting.”
“Hmm? That’s a nice way of calling your wifey fat,” I hummed with a wry smile.
“No, I just said that you’re thin. What I mean is… hmm, how do I make it clearer?”
I kissed her then, having known all along what she meant and how to put it into words as it was the same thing I felt when it was Violet resting on top of me.
“Me being a bit heavier makes my presence more… present, and grounding, right?” I asked in a whisper, my lips still brushing hers. “Like a comforting heavy blanket that is soft and warm and nice smelling and gentle.”
“Yes! That’s exactly it!” she said, sounding like she had a Eureka moment.
We stared at each other enamoured, but our loving expressions changed slowly. I couldn’t hold it in any longer, and it looked like Violet couldn’t either. In our reluctance to breaking away our embrace, we had held back for far too long.
In a bit of a rush, we put on some clothes and darted as fast as we could into the bathroom, our legs practically crossed.
Violet was the one who sat first after we had a stupid mini-argument about who’d have the first turn, both of us offering their turn, losing precious seconds. However, seeing her sitting and about to relieve herself made me reach my breaking point, something Violet realised too.
In a quick motion I turned around and lowered my bottoms, Violet making me sit on her lap, there being a small gap between her legs to avoid any mess. We both sighed in relived as we relaxed against one another in an image that’d be absolutely ridiculous and wrong were anyone to see us, both with our bottoms around the ankles and Violet hugging my waist with me resting my forehead on her temple, our eyes closed. Then, after being done and realising what we just did, our faces turned beet-red as each of us looked in a different direction. My eyes landed on the bidet that stood innocently by us, making my embarrassment burn brighter as I started cackling.
“What? What is—Oh! For the love of God!”
Violet joined in my laugher, having now also noticed and remembered the bidet.
“How can we be such idiots?” I panted, feeling like my ribs were about to blow up and burying my face in her hair.
“Seriously! It’s right there! In the open!” Violet panted back, holding me tighter.
We were still embarrassed by what we just did, but it was such a stupid mistake to make that we were more amused than anything. It certainly would be something we’d never forget.
It was something so stupid and ridiculous, we were still snickering about it as we walked inside the living room.
Dad was leaning over the small wall separating the kitchen from the rest while Papa Stan and Sophie cooked together, the latter being a first.
“Well, since I’m here and it’s getting a bit late, we decided to have a family dinner, so I’m giving Sophie a hand,” Papa Stan explained.
Sophie was looking a bit flushed and tense, no doubt having put some unreasonable amount of pressure not to mess up and show Papa Stan that she’s a decent cook. And I’m saying unreasonable because she was a decent cook, not as good as Violet or even me yet, but good enough so she only had to do her normal thing, not put any extra effort. It’s also not like Papa Stan would think badly of her when she only started cooking recently and doesn’t do so every day. In fact, as I watched them, it was clear that he was acting support, letting Sophie show off her decent skills.
Still, it was a shame. Violet had planned on making meat stew today. Really, what a pity.
“Pfft, fufu!”
Thinking about my favourite dish made my stomach rumble, that being the reason why Violet giggled.
“Someone is looking better,” her dad teased, giving her a playful look.
“Yeah,” Violet concurred, draping her arms over me. “Abby did manage to cheer me up a bit.”
“We know, we could hear you two cackling,” he chuckled.
“More like the whole building could,” Sophie added with a scolding voice. “What even made you two laugh that hard?”
“We messed up big time, and that’s all I’m saying,” I said, looking up at Violet who was turning red together with me. “Right?”
“Yeah… big time,” she mumbled, an embarrassed smile plastered all over her face.
Sis rolled her eyes while our parents shook their heads.
Violet let out another sigh, and I looked back at her. She had a complicated face, going back to thinking about Vanessa, but this time, she didn’t seem consumed by it, and once she noticed me staring at her, she gave me an honest smile, that thought going away just as fast as it had come.
Hopefully, she’d stay like that, and if not… I’m good company to have in those moments.
