"And your father didn't hope for a good son? Did he want a maniac going around torturing people needlessly?" Leo asked.

"N-no, that's... I have changed! Please, just consider me once!"

Leo simply folded his hands and tilted his head.

"I considered, and it turns out your presence was not needed. Now, don't waste our time," Leo said without a change in expression before turning to address the other 20 or so people, among whom Miho also stood.

Nord tried speaking once again, but Lily used wind to throw him out of the area.

"Now, for the remaining people, your rankings on the leaderboard don't decide whether you get selected or not. There are many other people who might have trained themselves and didn't challenge the higher-ranking students.

"Another reason is that your elemental affinities might be useless because they didn't have sufficient power behind them. You must be aware that we in the top 10 rankings have a varied range of elements, and in that case, if your elemental power falls short of making any meaningful change, your selection might be rejected," Leo continued.

"And finally, we will make you go through an elimination round. Meaning, once defeated, you will be out of the selection unless we see that the defeated person has promise. And remember, only 3 will be selected, so give your best."

Everybody nodded, though a few people looked somewhat stressed at the conditions Leo had put forward.

It was mainly the elemental affinities. Because they could be the best, but if the same element was wielded by any top 10 individual, their chances of being selected drastically decreased.

And funny enough, the top 10 had people with almost every element. At least, those that were known.

Fire — Ronan

Wind — Lily, Uraan

Earth — Leo, Aaron

Wood — Leo, Lily

Ice — Dhalia, Marco

Thunder — Lyra

Physical [Aura] — Leo, Leon, Aaron, Ronan, Uraan, Tavian

Except water, everybody was there.

Though this was only the known list. What remained unknown was that Leo and Lily wielded almost every element, while Kaelion now wielded the wind and thunder elements.

And there was also another important aspect. Apparently, the other top 10 individuals had decided to put Leo, Lily, and Kaelion out of this aspect of the selection requirement.

Meaning, they wouldn't be considered when choosing other people due to them being the strongest of them all. They were supposed to act independently most of the time, while the other top 10 would act in groups, meaning they needed to fill the gaps.

So, there were elements that were low in numbers or missing.

For Thunder, without Lyra, no one was there even among the 20 people that remained. So, no selection for that.

There was no one with the wood element either.

So, came fire, with only Ronan present if Thalvyr and Leo were ignored. And there was also the most required element for causing destruction—Cecil, the 11th-ranked student with her fire-type half-spirit beast, Flamehoof Vanguard, was considered a possible candidate.

She also proved herself by successively winning two matches against other flame users.

Next came the Wind element, with another single person being Uraan. The 15th-ranked student, Nano Jinn, with his beast, Windtail Fox, was nominated.

The next came the Earth element, with only Aaron being present. In other words, Yano—the 12th-ranked student—was nominated with his two Boulder Rock Snake beasts.

People thought these three would be the final selection, but Miho came out of nowhere.

She first defeated the 15th-ranked student with her icicle attacks, taking both the man and his beast down in one fell swoop.

Then came Yano. He was completely confident that his beasts with rock-hard outer layers would win, but he and his hopes were crushed when Miho formed a large ice block and crushed both of his beasts.

But unfortunately, Cecil managed to bring the fight to a draw.

Miho came in at a disadvantage because fire was stronger than ice, plus the half-spirit beast was taking reduced physical damage from Miho's attacks. When Miho finally opted to use her katana and other beast cores to draw out other elemental powers, it became difficult for her to counter an almost 7-meter-tall horse and Cecil's combined assault.

In the end, Miho's inexperience and multiple disadvantages led to a stalemate.

Nonetheless, her participation was confirmed because she defeated Yano and Nano, even if two ice users already existed in the top 10.

She had proved herself capable.

"SIR, PLEASE!!!" Yano collapsed to his knees and pleaded desperately.

"I know, Sir Leo and Sir Aaron wield the Earth Element. But! This element is very important for defence! And that makes my presence equally important!" Yano explained to Leo.

"Though I am not aware of what type of Earth beast you have, I can confidently say that my two Earth beasts will provide much greater benefits than this Nano's single wind element beast that can't even fly!"

"Ay!" Nano tried speaking in defence, but Yano was relentless.

"Not to mention, Sir Uraan has two flying-type beasts! And with himself being present, there's no need of Nano! And the important fact is that he doesn't train his body! You can clearly see he personally sits at just Mid 2-star strength while his beast is Low 3-star! I am better! Please choose me!"

Nano's ugly expression made it clear that Yano had hit the right spot.

Even Leo agreed, since his Earth element came from Howl, who was not coming to the competition, Yano would make up for that.

As for wind, Uraan was indeed sufficient, and there were Kaelion, Lily, and himself with the same element. So, a weak wind element would indeed be an inefficient choice.

And so, the combat talents were selected.

Miho

Cecil Milton

Yano Gilbert

Yano couldn't help but grin from ear to ear at that. He was so happy that Cecil made distance with him to stop hearing in nonsense words.

Now it was time for potion brewers, scouts, and someone highly intelligent in wildlife surroundings and also who could be a good strategist after compiling the knowledge of top students from other academies.

And apparently, the life-type talents had their separate rankings. Meaning, the top 3 individuals from there would be selected.

Though if all three were specialised in brewing enhancement potions, then Leo would remove the 3rd one to replace them with someone who could brew destructive and harmful agents.

They were soon called in, and to Leo's surprise, he saw a familiar individual among them.
