Chapter 60: 60.Forest of No Shade-10

TKerns on one side. Vexfangs on the other. Completely surrounded.

Tritia stood up straight, her eyes fixed on the red-eyed predators.

"Hmm. Do you have a plan you’d like to share? Tell me. I’m sorry for not listening to you earlier in the cave."

Mylo breathed heavily, his chest heaving as his eyes darted from the fanged beasts to the horned monsters.

He took a sharp breath, gripped his weapon, and turned back toward the Tkerns.

Mylo was thinking about his priorities and situation and his heart, and eventually he arrived at his decision.

Dropping a little low and glancing at his left leg, he talked in a self-deprecating but gentle tone.

"Tritia, whenever we get the chance, we will break through them and run away."

Tritia matched her back to his, her thin frame and small height body getting dwarfed by his.

"Hmm. That’s a simple plan. I like it. But is it possible? Tell me."

Mylo shook his head to himself.

"I don’t know."

KEKEKEKEKEKEK!

The laughter of the Tkerns echoed.

Then the growls of the Vexfangs.

"We will find out after hunting enough of them."

And then it started again.

This time, both the Tkerns and the Vexfangs attacked from both sides.

Mylo jumped at the swarm of Tkerns, while Tritia handled the Vexfangs.

Mylo swung his machete as his hand grabbed one Tkern.

Pleasure.

He strained his muscles, forcing his palm down hard onto its skin.

The beast completely flustered, its knees dropping to the ground.

Clang!

As Mylo used his machete to kill one Tkern, he brought it right back down and took the life of the one on the ground.

Thud!

Just then he was hit on the side by another.

"You bastard!"

He gritted his teeth, forcing his arm forward through the burning pressure in his ribs.

He brought his machete around and hit the beast right in its eyes.

Sensory numb.

The pain from the earlier impact was lessened, and Mylo’s fear was reduced.

"Aah!"

He swung again, killing another one.

But this horde never seemed to end.

One Tkern slammed straight into his right knee.

Mylo winced in pain. He pushed through the agonizing shock in his leg, grabbing the Tkerns with both hands.

Pleasure.

Bliss drain.

Screaming at the top of his lungs, he exerted every ounce of strength remaining in his arms and twisted its head, breaking the neck of the Tkerns.

[Faint pran absorbed]

Snap!

He charged again at a Tkern that was trying to get past him.

Before he could swing, he felt his back crushing as he was hit from behind by another Tkern, and then another just as he was about to crash.

He fixed his legs, bracing his body with all his might as he tried to take the blunt force. His chest burned in high heat.

He lifted his machete and swung at another Tkern, but his strike was stopped by its antlers.

Clang!

Pleasure.

Mylo chanted the spell in his head as his hand slipped through to the Tkern behind him.

The creature completely flustered, screaming a little. Mylo’s hand reached under its stomach until he felt its testicles.

He squeezed with all his strength and yanked back violently, pulling and gouging the whole gland right out of its body.

The Tkern staggered backward and collapsed onto the black soil.

[Pran(74->84)]

Mylo threw the gland aside and was about to charge at another one, but suddenly a burning sensation sent a sharp jolt through his body.

Looking down, he found a Vexfang biting deep into his leg.

"You bastard!"

He reached down, straining his back as he grabbed the creature, lifted the Vexfang up by its tail, and slashed its stomach open with his machete.

Slash!

Mylo’s breath became heavier and heavier. His mind felt exhausted from the fight.

How much time has it been? How long have I been fighting them? How long do I have to fight them?

His eyes darted around the dark battlefield.

Tritia was slashing through one Vexfang after another.

Every now and then a Tkerns would target her, and she would tear through it, too.

But even while fighting, he could see it clearly.

Her speed was reducing. Her movements were getting more ragged, her effort growing more exhausting.

He forced his arms to keep moving, turning back to face the swarm of Tkerns.

When he dealt with one, another came. Sometimes a couple of them attacked at the same moment. No matter how many he killed, their numbers didn’t decrease.

Behind him, he started hearing Tritia panting.

Every now and then, a fierce battle cry escaped her lips.

He clenched his fists and took a deep breath, deciding on his next move.

But just before he could act, another sharp scream cut through the air.

"Eeeeeeeeehhh!"

Tritia screamed from behind him.

She suddenly sprinted in an arc, cutting across the black soil toward the other side.

"Tritia, what are you doing? Don’t go over there, stop it!" Mylo yelled.

She didn’t stop running. She circled straight into the Tkerns’ side of the battlefield.

"Eeeeeeeeehhh!" she continued yelling, drawing the attention of the monsters.

The beasts shifted, their red eyes turning away from Mylo as they became more and more attracted to her.

In that darkness, no matter how much Mylo squinted his eyes, he could not see the full details of her face.

His heart pumped stronger and stronger.

He closed his eyes, and Tritia’s face flashed before him.

"You were the one who killed him? Hmm? Hmmm? Tell me! Hmm?"

"Don’t lie. Hmm. I am kind. I will not kill you. Hmmm."

"After that, we had no choice. Everyone decided I wasn’t worth fighting for, so I was abandoned."

"Do a Soulbind ritual with me. Hmm."

"You can’t give me what I want. Hmm."

"...Release me. Let me go. If you want, I’ll do the ritual with you. Hmm."

"Just give me orders. I will follow them. That is all."

"I will follow your orders. If you feel like retreating at any moment, just say it to me. I will drag you back to the cave."

"Hmm-hmm, you don’t need to explain to me. Haha, I will do what you order."

"How are you going to fight? What if you get injured? Or dragged away like before? I was unable to protect! Tell me."

He opened them again and took a deep breath.

I am absolutely never going to let that happen.

"Hey! Look over here, you bastards!"

He screamed at the top of his lungs, his roar echoing far louder than hers.

He lunged forward, swinging his weapon to attack a Tkern behind him and a Vexfang beside it.

He dug his fingers into the creature’s back, lifted the Vexfang’s heavy body, and threw it directly into the incoming horde.

Thud!

"Come here! Get me, you bastards! I’m right here!" he screamed.

His violent act seemed to make them react.

The Tkerns let out their usual screeching laughter, and the Vexfangs growled fiercely as they jumped at him from all sides.

He shouted all of his skills at once.

’’Pleasure! Bliss drain! Sensory numb!’’

’’Come at me, bastards!’’

One by one, his machete cut through them.

Slash!

One of them hit him hard in the chest.

Thump!

He staggered, forcing his feet to plant firmly into the dirt, and fixed his gaze again as he killed more.

Sensory numb!

A Vexfang tried to eat him, latching its jaws tightly onto his forearm.

He gritted his teeth against the pressure, lifted the beast, and killed it by slamming its head straight onto the sharp antlers of a nearby Tkerns.

Crack!

"Come at me, bastards!"

He continued fighting relentlessly until the crowd of monsters around him thickened into a solid wall.

He turned his head, looking back toward the direction where Tritia had been, but he found nothing.

A breathless gasp escaped his lips, and a strained smile formed on his face.

Tritia was gone. There was no trace of her left.
