Chapter 540: Chapter 539: Level 1

After that small lesson, Keith’s ego was tamed as he kept watch in case he met someone like that again, but time passed and the two never seemed to meet.

The days turned into weeks, then months, then a year, and at this point, what had started with the breakout of a desperate kid had turned into a legend with an unbreakable winning streak. Worse still...

Keith had developed a habit of never sparing his enemies. No one had ever survived a battle against him, and his treatment kept improving. After a long while...

The sixteen-year-old Keith reached the top of the arena and finally arrived at the level of the being that had once filled him with intense fear.

"Welcome to Level One," Jeso said with a smile as Keith stood rooted in place.

Paradise?

No...

To Keith, even that seemed beneath what he was seeing.

A long passageway stretched before him with colorful walls, while maids and servants walked back and forth.

Around him, he could see training rooms built outside the living quarters, a large cafeteria where one could eat instead of staying inside their room, and a steady flow of people dressed in different attire.

And best of all...

They only needed to fight once a week. They could use the rest of their time however they wanted.

They also had the freedom to move anywhere they wished.

Best of all, they could directly meet the Arena Masters and speak with them. They even had access to medicinal baths. Instead of simply swallowing a pill whenever they were injured, they could soak in a bath that would not only heal them but also enhance their strength.

"Isn’t... thi...s too much?" Keith couldn’t help but ask as Jeso laughed.

"No... it is just right. After all, you all are the face of the arena," he said as they watched gladiators chatting, laughing, and walking around.

One wouldn’t even believe this was a fighting arena.

They joked with one another, laughed together, and enjoyed themselves with the girls around them.

But something caught Keith’s attention.

Each and every one of them was taller and more developed than him. Everyone was likely an adult.

He...

He was just a teenager.

"Relax, champ."

Seeing Keith looking at the taller and more developed individuals, Jeso could guess what he was thinking.

"All of them roughly got here at your age, or a little older. At this point, you’ll live a comfortable life even if you lose a match. Now, you don’t necessarily have to kill one another anymore. You can simply compete," Jeso said as Keith nodded.

He looked around one by one, not forgetting to search for that figure, even though he had never actually seen that person’s face.

It had been over a year, yet he still couldn’t forget that experience.

Keith hesitated as he thought about asking Jeso.

Just as he opened his mouth, Jeso spoke.

"Enjoy your time here. I’m needed elsewhere," Jeso said before turning around and walking away.

Keith sighed before looking back at this new, "better" environment. He then slowly opened the door to his room, and his mouth instantly fell open.

What...

What was this?

At this moment, he could see maids and servants inside his room. Some were making his bed, others were arranging his clothes, and even in the bathroom he could hear soft laughter as they prepared his bath.

On his table was a delicious meal that had already been prepared, and this time, the drink wasn’t just water. Beside it was a strange red liquid.

"Welcome, Master."

Hearing the door open and seeing him, all of them stopped what they were doing.

More than eight people stepped forward and bowed as Keith swallowed hard.

"Yea...h," Keith replied as they helped him with his clothes and guided him toward his bath.

Keith followed their instructions as he stepped into the pool.

For a moment, he was left alone as he looked around the room.

He could still hear the servants discussing their "new master," but his mind felt heavy.

Because he had only just realized that everyone here was a monster.

All those gladiators he had seen...

They were several times stronger than him.

Keith couldn’t help but remember what being weak had brought him.

He didn’t want to be that helpless ever again.

Keith clenched his fists, but just then...

"What... what is this?"

He looked at the water in surprise as he felt every pore in his body open. It felt as though his body was growing stronger.

His heart raced as a smile formed on his face.

No wonder they were so strong.

This was what they bathed in every day.

If they didn’t become stronger after this, then something must be wrong.

Keith grinned.

It seemed it wasn’t over yet.

As he pushed those thoughts aside...

He wouldn’t remain the weakest for long.

After thirty minutes, Keith walked out with a towel wrapped around himself as the servants all bowed and guided him toward his meal.

As he ate, they fed him and massaged him with multiple hands. He felt his entire body relax as the tension in his muscles disappeared.

This was another form of treatment, as he could feel a faint pulse of energy flowing from their hands into his body, soothing him.

"Interesting," Keith couldn’t help but say as he looked at the smiling maids while finishing his meal.

"Master, there’s a regular meeting between the Arena Masters and the top gladiators today," one of the servants said just as Keith finished eating.

"Now?" Keith asked as she shook her head.

"You can rest or train, Master. It will be held in the evening," she replied.

"Alright," Keith muttered as he lay down on his bed while his empty plates were carried away.

As he rested, a cool energy flowed through his body. He looked at the maids sitting beside him as they gently placed their hands on him, releasing that soothing energy into his body.

Now Keith understood why he had eight of them.

He was living in luxury.

Before he realized it...

He had already fallen asleep.

He dreamt that he climbed his way through the ranks of the gladiators and soon reached the peak. His name had become a legend as he enjoyed even greater privileges, and life was wonderful.

But just as he returned to his room and fell asleep, a hand grabbed his chest, and his body turned cold.

"Son..."

Keith snapped awake as he sat up, startling his maids.

"Master!"

"Master, are you okay?" they asked worriedly as Keith took deep breaths. He felt their energy coat his body, calming his mind.

He looked at the worried expressions on the maids’ faces as he felt a pang in his heart.

It directly mirrored the expression his mother used to wear.

Keith gritted his teeth.

"I’m fine," Keith said as he stood.

"Leave."

Keith walked toward the bathroom as he spoke, catching the maids off guard.

"Master, we apologize."

"Was the treatment lacking?"

"Master, please punish us—"

"Get out!!!"

Keith roared as their bodies trembled in fright. The eight maids hurriedly rushed out.

Once they were gone, Keith sighed as he looked at the water in the bathroom.

The way it moved was similar to the flames he had seen that day...

Touching his left arm, Keith gritted his teeth.

---

Evening came as Keith left his room, with a maid following behind and guiding him to where he needed to go.

They left the living quarters, and Keith finally got to see everything Jeso had told him about.

The medicinal bath open to the public was leagues above the one they had in their private quarters, but they could only use it twice a week.

As for the gladiators...

They preferred using it after a fight in case they were injured, and then once more the following day.

This maximized the benefits. As their bodies recovered, they grew stronger.

Finally, they entered another room, where Keith found people already seated with their maids standing behind them.

The room’s temperature was just perfect.

More than two hundred gladiators were present, each radiating an aura that overshadowed Keith’s.

At the front was a raised platform with ten seats occupied by middle-aged men.

They wore luxurious robes and were surrounded by guards who radiated terrifying pressure like ancient beasts.

Also at the very front...

"Damn..."

Keith’s expression changed as he felt that familiar aura.

His heart pounded violently as fear gripped him.

The scene from a year ago resurfaced in his mind as he looked toward the hooded gladiator.

"We meet again."

Just as Keith struggled to remain calm, he heard a slow, drawn-out voice beside his ear.

His body froze.
