Chapter 561: Chapter 560: Cracks
Mark moved as Sword Demon smiled and easily dodged to the side. Mark flew past him for a brief second before abruptly halting, but it was already too late.
He felt a force strike his back as Sword Demon’s finger touched him, sending him hurtling headfirst toward Void’s multiverse.
But before Mark could collide with it, space tore open.
He passed through the spatial rift and instantly reappeared directly in front of Sword Demon.
The moment he did, the Origin of Chaos came to life.
For a brief instant, Sword Demon’s Sword Intent was disrupted, meaning his finger was no longer coated with Sword Intent. It was now nothing more than the finger of a Quasi Rank 4 being.
A smile spread across Mark’s face.
He knew exactly how powerful his body had been even before becoming one of Void’s Slaves.
Now, after being transformed into an Aeron and gaining the Primordial Demon Bloodline, his body had become even stronger.
Without Sword Intent reinforcing that finger, it would be torn apart.
Sword Demon would finally have to defend with more than a single finger.
At the very least, Mark could save some face and avoid being defeated so humiliatingly.
"Come on... show me more than a finger..."
Mark’s eyes lit up as his claw descended.
But what he saw left him stunned.
Sword Demon actually sighed.
He slowly withdrew his finger before clasping both hands behind his back.
Looking calmly at Mark, he spoke.
"There are three stages on the path of the sword."
"The sword becomes your heart."
"The sword becomes one with you."
"You become the sword."
Ding!
Mark was blasted backward.
Space shattered around him as he shot through countless spatial coordinates.
Every universe that happened to lie in his path was instantly vaporized, bringing the deaths of countless living beings.
Only after traveling an unimaginable distance did Mark finally come to a stop within a silent region of space.
There wasn’t even a trace of light.
No stars illuminated the darkness.
No matter existed to emit even the faintest glow.
Sword Demon appeared before him.
Mark looked down at his own body.
His wrists were twisted into grotesque angles.
Chunks of flesh peeled away one after another.
His body was being ravaged from the inside out as a terrifying energy coursed through him, destroying everything in its path.
Mark tried to circulate the Origin of Chaos.
He couldn’t.
It had been completely sealed.
Sword Demon calmly appeared before him before lightly tapping Mark’s forehead.
"Not bad... but you still have a long way to go."
With that, Sword Demon grabbed Mark’s shoulder.
The world blurred.
The next moment, they had already returned to the mansion where the rest of Void’s Slaves were waiting.
"Had fun?" Nyx asked, rolling her eyes.
Sword Demon grinned.
Mark, however, was still standing there in complete shock.
Wasn’t he the one with the advantage just moments ago?
What changed?
What the hell happened?
Naturally, no one was surprised that Sword Demon had won.
After all, his experience spoke for itself.
So did his strength.
The fact that he had reached such heights while walking nothing but the path of the sword was proof enough.
"Well, alright. Keep me up to date."
Sword Demon casually sat beside Nephem, who was comfortably lounging on a couch.
A movie from the human world played across a massive screen while dark shades rested on Nephem’s face and a bucket of popcorn sat in his lap.
Sword Demon reached into the bucket and grabbed a handful.
Nephem merely frowned before deciding to ignore him.
It wasn’t worth arguing.
Besides, Sword Demon was currently stronger than him.
No matter what he tried, it would be useless.
Even his Infinity Origin wasn’t enough to deal with Sword Demon.
"Well... not much," Junnie began.
"But after you were locked up, the Abyss started changing."
"It eventually became a place where other races could come to trade with demons or even sign contracts with them."
"Oh... that’s a huge change," Sword Demon commented.
"Indeed," Alayot agreed.
"But that wasn’t the only change."
"To ensure each generation becomes stronger than the last, the Abyss and Heaven seem to have reached some sort of agreement."
"Now, to break through to the next realm, one must survive within the territory of the opposite side."
"So seeing angels in the Abyss is no longer rare..."
"Neither are their deaths."
Junnie finished as Sword Demon’s eyes widened.
"Damn..."
"Isn’t that a bit extreme?"
"I have a feeling this change is about more than simply making the next generation stronger, isn’t it?" Sword Demon asked.
"Most likely."
"It’s not just the Abyss and Heaven that are changing."
"I can subtly feel that the other races are also becoming stronger."
"Their methods of cultivation are evolving as well, becoming far more efficient," Linkir said.
"Well..."
"I guess that explains it."
"And considering what’s happening in the Plane of Consciousness..."
"I’d say it all matches."
Alayot’s sudden words made everyone gasp.
"What... did you just say?" Nyx asked, afraid she had misheard him.
"There are cracks..." Alayot said.
The room instantly fell silent.
Cracks...
In the Plane of Consciousness?
How was that even possible?
Everyone knew.
At least, everyone at Rank 3 knew that the Plane of Consciousness was one of the most important planes of existence.
Without it, everything would collapse.
It was responsible for the birth of multiverses, universes, and, in a sense, all life itself.
"I mean, why are you all taking this so seriously? It isn’t our place to figure out what’s happening. Leave it to the people who are stronger than us," Nephem said matter-of-factly as he chewed on his popcorn.
Knock!
"Idiot."
Sword Demon gave Nephem a hard knock on the head, his face twitching in annoyance.
"No, he’s right. There’s no point worrying about it. If the sky falls, there will be people strong enough to hold it up. Still, let’s keep it in mind," Linkir said as she looked around at everyone.
They all nodded in agreement.
"Alright then. Dreadborne, the organization our beloved master founded, is thriving. At the moment, we have more than thirty-four multiverses, each with at least one Rank 3 demon stationed within it, along with more than a hundred dimensional planes under our control."
"Little by little, we’ve become an organization known throughout the cosmos," Junnie explained.
Sword Demon nodded.
"At least now I know why your realms haven’t been progressing," Sword Demon said matter-of-factly.
"Come on... let me at him!" Nyx charged forward as Linkir and Alayot hurriedly grabbed her. She had already transformed into her demon form, ready to throw hands.
The rest of Void’s Slaves couldn’t help but twitch.
Seriously.
Sword Demon was an absolute bastard.
They had actually preferred him before he was imprisoned, but after breaking through to Rank 4 and spending five hundred thousand years locked away, something must have snapped inside his head.
What the actual fuck?
Why was his mouth so poisonous?
Were all sword cultivators like this?
"Heh, I’m not lying though. At least you all have an excuse for being this weak. Man, I’d be embarrassed to go out with you guys. Your strength would disgrace me," Sword Demon said, covering his face as he pretended to be ashamed.
"Sword Demon..." Linkir said through gritted teeth.
"Ah, fine, fine. Alright." Sword Demon rolled his eyes.
"So... what about Void?" Sword Demon asked.
The room instantly fell silent.
