Accidentally Pregnant With The Billionaire Heir
Chapter 154 - 153 The Invitation*** BEATRICE ***
Money screams, but true power only ever whispers.
I sit perfectly still in the plush leather backseat of my black town car. The Vanguard City streetlights blur past the tinted windows. My manicured fingernails tap a slow, rhythmic beat against my emerald-green clutch. The phone inside my purse vibrates. I know exactly who is calling. I pull the sleek device free and look at the glowing screen.
Naya Zone.
The spoiled, entitled daughter of Congressman Mark Zone is incredibly predictable. She calls me almost every single day. Her obsession with my nephew is a pathetic, desperate disease.
I swipe the screen to answer. I don’t speak immediately. I take a shallow, shaky breath, carefully constructing a mask of deep distress.
"Aunt Beatrice?" Naya asks. Her voice is shrill and eager over the line. "Are you there? I’ve been trying to reach you all afternoon."
"I’m here, Naya," I reply softly. I force a slight tremor into my tone. I sound exactly like a woman breaking under an invisible weight. "I apologize for missing your calls. Things have been incredibly difficult lately."
"What is wrong?" Naya presses immediately. She practically begs for the gossip. "Is it Alistair? Is it about that woman he married?"
I close my eyes, leaning my head against the cool leather headrest. I let a long, heavy sigh escape my lips. I play the victim perfectly.
"I suffered a terrible, unspeakable grievance at the estate," I whisper, injecting just enough vague tragedy to hook her completely. "I can’t speak of it openly. The walls in this family have ears. I’m completely isolated."
"Tell me," Naya demands. "I can help you. You know my father has resources."
Her father is a prominent politician currently running for the presidency. Congressman Mark Zone tried aggressively to arrange a political marriage between Naya and Alistair last year. He wanted to merge his political campaign with the limitless financial backing of the Wolfe corporate empire.
Alistair rejected the proposal instantly. He cited the massive risks of political entanglement. The truth is much simpler than that. The Wolfe family possesses unfathomable global wealth. We don’t rely on the support of a passing president. We actually fear the inevitable scandals of politicians dragging our pristine corporate legacy into the mud.
Alistair publicly announcing his marriage to a complete nobody was the ultimate insult. It was a cold, calculated slap directly across the Congressman’s face. It served as a permanent, undeniable rejection of Naya.
"I can’t discuss this over the phone," I tell her. I wipe a nonexistent tear from my cheek, staying entirely in character. "I need a friendly face, Naya. I’m meeting my niece for dinner soon near Vanguard Medical University. There is a quiet, upscale café directly across from the main campus gates. Meet me on the second floor in twenty minutes. I will tell you everything."
"I’m already on my way," Naya says. The call ends with a sharp click.
I lower the phone. A cold, genuine smile replaces the fake sorrow on my face. Hooking Naya is incredibly easy. She is blinded by her intense jealousy. I intend to take that jealousy and forge it into a lethal weapon. I will point her directly at Emily Vance.
I look out the window. The memory of the meditation room rises in my mind like a foul stench. Seven days trapped in absolute darkness. Seven days of suffocating silence and sensory deprivation. Alistair locked me in that concrete box because Emily manipulated the situation to look like a victim. I rub my arms, chasing away the phantom chill of that miserable cell. I will make the girl pay for every single second I spent in the dark.
"Daniel," I call out to my driver. "Pull over near the medical university archway. Find the café across the street from the vacant double-decker property."
"Right away, Madam," Daniel replies smoothly from the front seat.
The town car navigates the heavy evening traffic. We arrive at the busy commercial avenue lining the edge of the historic campus. Daniel parks the vehicle near a row of high-end retail shops. I step out onto the warm pavement, adjusting the lapels of my tailored suit. The air smells of roasted coffee and expensive pastries.
I walk into the elegant café. The barista greets me with a polite nod. I ignore him entirely and ascend the spiral wooden staircase to the second level. The upper floor is quiet and sparsely populated. I select a small, circular table positioned directly next to the large floor-to-ceiling windows.
I sit down and fold my hands on the glass tabletop. I look out the window, staring directly across the busy street.
A dusty, vacant double-decker brick building sits directly in my line of sight. It is the exact property Daniel tracked Emily to earlier this evening. She signed a commercial lease with a violent street thug for that specific space. She is hiding a secret project inside those brick walls.
A waitress approaches my table. She wears a neat black apron over a crisp white shirt.
"May I bring you something to drink?" she asks timidly.
"Black tea," I instruct her without looking away from the window. "Leave the pot."
The waitress scurries away. I keep my dark eyes fixed on the empty storefront across the avenue. The streetlights illuminate the dirty glass panes of the vacant building. I don’t know what Emily plans to build in that space, but I will ensure it burns to the ground before she ever opens the doors.
Heavy footsteps echo on the wooden stairs. I turn my head.
Naya Zone marches onto the second floor. She looks exactly like the spoiled daughter of a powerful politician. She wears a tight, crimson designer dress that hugs her figure aggressively. Her blonde hair is styled into flawless, voluminous waves. She carries a limited-edition handbag that costs more than most luxury vehicles. Her blue eyes scan the room frantically before locking onto my table.
She practically runs over, her high heels clicking sharply against the wooden floorboards. She pulls out the chair opposite me and sits down heavily. She leans forward, her hands gripping the edge of the glass table.
"I came as fast as I could," Naya says breathlessly. The heavy scent of her sweet, fruity perfume washes over the table. "What happened? What did that awful girl do to you?"
The waitress returns, placing a delicate porcelain teapot and a matching cup in front of me. I wait for the girl to walk away before I answer. I pour a steaming stream of dark amber liquid into my cup. The floral aroma of the tea mixes with Naya’s perfume.
"She poisoned my entire family against me," I whisper. I look down at the dark tea, refusing to meet Naya’s eyes. It makes the performance much more convincing. "Emily Vance is a manipulative, wicked creature. She staged a massive conflict at the estate, making it look like I endangered Lily. Alistair believed her lies completely. He locked me away and humiliated me in front of everyone."
Naya gasps softly. Her manicured fingers fly up to cover her mouth. "Alistair did that to you? He is usually so respectful of the family hierarchy."
"He is completely blinded by her," I lie smoothly. I take a slow sip of the hot tea. The bitter liquid warms my throat. "She uses that innocent, pure facade to control him. She acts like a helpless victim while secretly digging her claws into his wealth. She is draining the Wolfe empire from the inside out."
Naya’s face flushes a deep, angry red. The sheer hatred in her blue eyes is a beautiful thing to witness. She genuinely believes she is the only woman worthy of standing beside Alistair. The thought of a common, uneducated girl taking her rightful place drives her absolutely insane.
"I knew it," Naya snarls softly. She grips the strap of her expensive handbag. "I knew she was a filthy gold digger the second I saw her picture. She tricked him into that marriage. She probably faked the pregnancy just to secure the legal contract."
I let the silence hang for a few seconds. I allow her toxic assumptions to take deep root in her mind. I need her angry. I need her completely unhinged.
"I’m entirely powerless to stop her," I say, letting a single tear form in the corner of my eye. I dab it away delicately with a cloth napkin. "Alistair protects her with his elite security detail. If I try to expose her true nature, he will simply punish me again. I have no one to turn to, Naya. I’m completely trapped in my own home."
Naya leans closer across the table. Her breathing is shallow and rapid. "You have me, Aunt Beatrice. I won’t let that wretched girl ruin your life. I won’t let her destroy Alistair."
I look up, meeting her fierce, determined gaze. I offer her a weak, grateful smile. The trap is perfectly set. The pawn is eager to move across the board.
"You are a true blessing, Naya," I tell her gently. "But she is very dangerous. She operates in the shadows. You must be incredibly careful."
"I’m not afraid of a street rat," Naya spits out the insult with pure disgust. "My father is going to be the next president of this country. I have resources she can’t even comprehend. What is she hiding?"
I turn my head and look out the large window. The night sky hangs heavy over the city. I point my manicured finger toward the dusty, double-decker building sitting directly across the street.
"She signed a commercial lease for that specific property a few hours ago," I reveal quietly. "She didn’t use Alistair’s money. She didn’t use the family lawyers. She negotiated the deal in secret with a violent local crime boss named Silas Hunt."
Naya follows my pointing finger. She stares at the dark brick building. A look of sheer, malicious delight spreads across her sharp features.
"She is doing business with the mob?" Naya asks, a wicked smile curving her lips. "She is building an illegal front right under Alistair’s nose."
"I don’t know what she intends to open," I say. I take another sip of my tea. "But legitimate businesses don’t require secret meetings with extortionists. She is building something highly illicit. If the press uncovers a connection between the Wolfe family and the criminal underworld, the resulting scandal will be catastrophic."
"I will expose her," Naya declares. She pulls her phone from her purse, her thumbs ready to dial. "I will hire the best private investigators in Vanguard City. I’ll find out exactly what she is doing in that building, and I will drag her secrets into the blinding daylight. Alistair will throw her into the gutter the second he sees the truth."
"You must keep my name completely out of this," I warn her, injecting real fear into my tone. "If Emily discovers I pointed you in this direction, she will retaliate against me."
"Your name won’t ever be mentioned," Naya promises. She reaches across the table and squeezes my hand tightly. "I will handle everything. I will tear her life apart piece by piece."
I squeeze her hand back. The sweet taste of impending victory coats my tongue. I sit back in my chair and watch the empty building across the street. The game is officially in motion.
