Achieving Demon Godhood from Unlocking Talents
Chapter 250 - 2: Harvest from Lei WanjunThat day, Lu Chao only managed to meet with Leader Li’s assistant.
He was a seasoned, Elite Level young man with short hair, dressed in the blue standard-issue uniform of the Superpower Bureau.
"Captain Lu, my apologies."
"Leader Li was previously unaware of your appointment from Yao Capital. The captain positions for the five squads under his command are already filled."
The man’s very first words made Lu Chao frown slightly.
Before Lu Chao could speak, the assistant looked him up and down and gave a reserved smile. "But rest assured, your initial check-in procedures have been taken care of. Someone will be assigned to take you to the apartment building to get settled in."
"As for the captaincy... Leader Li is already working on a solution for you."
He met Lu Chao’s gaze and said with a placid smile, "We’ll have this arranged for you within a week. It’s just... you probably won’t be in our division by then."
Hearing this, a glint appeared in Lu Chao’s eyes as he glanced at the still-empty division leader’s office.
He had a vague inkling of what was happening. He simply nodded and, taking the hint, led Chen Xiao and the others away without further questions.
On the way, they took the elevator downstairs.
Chen Xiao’s brow was furrowed the entire time. Once they were out of the building, he couldn’t help but mutter, "Something’s not right, Old Lu."
"If the higher-ups issued a transfer order, how could the people here possibly not have been notified?"
He sensed something was wrong.
Zhao Yuanqing, who had been waiting downstairs, had also been filled in and felt indignant on Lu Chao’s behalf.
Lu Chao didn’t say anything, but his mind was already racing with possibilities.
’That Assistant Qian’s explanation was clearly just a brush-off. If the situation was really as he said, they wouldn’t have made me wait there for a whole hour.’
’The only explanation...’
’...is that Leader Li either doesn’t like me or is unwilling to have me serve under him.’
"It’s fine. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it."
"Let’s see what happens in a week and decide what to do then."
Lu Chao said softly, reassuring the others.
He was surprised, but not overly worried.
No one dared to defy an appointment from Yao Capital. No matter how unwilling Leader Li was, he still had to operate within the rules and find a way to finalize the appointment.
If that weren’t the case, Leader Li wouldn’t have sent his assistant at the last minute to tell him to wait a week.
After a brief discussion, a field agent led them into a tall apartment building behind the Superpower Sub-Bureau.
As official members, not only Lu Chao but also Chen Xiao and Fang Xu were each assigned a free apartment.
The accommodations weren’t bad—a three-bedroom, one-living-room apartment.
The captain-level apartments, however, came with their own small, private training room.
"Yuanqing, you can stay here for the time being."
"As for your job, we can figure that out after my position is confirmed. There’s no rush."
Walking into the apartment, Lu Chao set down his luggage and spoke to Zhao Yuanqing.
Each Superpower Squad oversees three full-sized, twelve-person field teams. These teams have logistics positions responsible for prosthetic maintenance, which would be a perfect fit for him. It would even give him better exposure to Superpower Knowledge.
He already had it planned out. As long as he could secure his post, Yuanqing’s job situation would be easily resolved.
"Are you sure that’s okay?"
Zhao Yuanqing was tempted; the prospects were far better than at a Prosthetic Clinic.
But what happened today had been a warning sign, and he didn’t want to cause more trouble for Lu Chao.
"Don’t worry."
Lu Chao shook his head, patting him on the shoulder.
They chatted for a while longer, roughly outlining their future plans.
After quickly tidying up and choosing a sunny bedroom for himself...
CLICK!
Lu Chao shut the door to his room.
Then, he scanned the entire room with his senses, checking it from top to bottom. After confirming there were no surveillance devices, he let out a long breath.
Lu Chao looked at the furniture in his new room, then out the window at the towering skyscrapers and bustling city streets.
He was gradually getting used to this unfamiliar environment.
A new city, a new future.
However.
He drew the curtains, walked over to a cabinet in the corner, and took several items out of his black backpack.
These were the things he had brought with him all the way from Ring City.
Master Luo’s letter, the fragmented parchment map he’d received from the wilderness aid mission, the God-Worshiping Church’s book of Magic, and a metal sphere of unknown origin.
And...
’The legacy of the Thunder Extreme Martial Arts Hall.’
His eyes gleaming, Lu Chao looked down at a small metal disk in his hand.
It was a storage device he had taken from Lei Wanjun. According to Master Luo, it likely contained several Mid-Level Martial Skills.
He hadn’t had a chance to use it before, as he had been busy traveling.
But now, having finally settled in, he thought back to some of the techniques Lei Wanjun had used.
Filled with a mix of curiosity and anticipation, Lu Chao quickly activated it.
VMMMM!
The storage device instantly projected a blue light that rapidly coalesced before his eyes, forming a screen.
Over the next few minutes, information on several Martial Skills appeared, and Lu Chao examined the contents of each one.
[Thunder Sound Skill: Mid-Level Sonic Martial Skill]
[Effect: By stimulating acupoints with Martial Arts Power or Qi Flame, one can release a thunderous sound at Minor Achievement, assaulting the target’s mind. At Major Achievement, the sound is like the roar of the Beast King, the Thunder Eagle, capable of stunning even Superpower Level foes...]
After reading the description of the first Martial Skill, Lu Chao had only one thought.
’A perfect replacement.’
After all, the Fierce Roar Skill was only a beginner-level Martial Skill and was starting to fall behind his current power level. The Thunder Sound Skill was the perfect replacement.
With his existing foundation in sonic Martial Skills, he was confident he could master it much more quickly.
This Martial Skill would remain useful even after he broke through to the Superpower Level.
Then, his gaze shifted to the second Martial Skill.
[Shadow Orb: A Special Hidden Weapon Technique]
[Effect: Choose a portable object and use a specific method to condense and infuse it with Martial Arts Power or Qi Flame. By continually compressing this power and using a special propulsion technique when attacking, the object can be launched through the air at lightning speed to strike and kill the enemy.]
