Achieving Demon Godhood from Unlocking Talents
Chapter 264 - 9: Harvest, CrisisBZZZT!!
In the quiet alley, an eerie green flame suddenly flared to life.
It seemed to use soul and flesh as fuel, incinerating everything in its path.
The corpse of the brown-haired young man was gradually consumed by the fire.
His clothes, flesh, bones... everything was burned to ash, including the words written in his blood, which were also incinerated by the flames until they vanished without a trace.
Lu Chao watched this scene quietly, quickly noticing something unusual.
The color of the corpse fire was slightly different from that of the old man from the God-Worshiping Church, and the magical techniques he wielded were also distinct.
’Could it be that they aren’t from the same faction?’
’Or perhaps there’s factional strife within the God-Worshiping Church? Maybe they don’t worship the same Demon God?’
The thought flashed through his mind, and Lu Chao found himself forming a few speculations.
Then, he looked at the patch of black ash on the ground.
A light breeze blew past, sweeping away all the dust, leaving no trace behind.
All evidence of the brown-haired young man’s existence had been erased. Not even a scorch mark remained on the ground.
It was as if the man had never been there at all.
The situation was chilling. Even Lu Chao’s eyes narrowed, and he grew even more wary and vigilant of this so-called worship of a Demon God.
However, his gaze shifted and he looked down at the ground.
A fist-sized, fractured red crystal glinted under the sunlight, emitting a strange, bewitching glow.
[Magic Power Crystal]
[Quality: Elementary (Fragmented)]
[Consumption Effect: A residual item from the blessing of a High-Dimensional Demon God. It contains special Life Energy and spiritual contamination. Consuming it will increase one’s Life Energy and plant a seed of corruption!]
[Note: This contamination can be removed through special methods. Required materials include Spirit Spring Water, Cyan Spirit Grass...]
His intuition quietly activated, and Lu Chao bent down to pick it up.
Although it was still a fragmented crystal, it was considerably larger than the one he had obtained before, and its energy was much richer.
Relying on his keen five senses, he roughly estimated that the refined resources contained within this object were equivalent to at least two Senior-Level Nutritional Potions.
’A nice, unexpected gain,’ he thought.
’In that case, I can ask Manager You at the Hunter Guild for help collecting the purification materials later on.’
Lu Chao nodded. Having done this once before, he was already familiar with the purification method. He tucked the crystal away into his pocket.
Then, after confirming no one was around, he turned and strode away, quickly leaving the alley.
His receding footsteps gradually faded, and the concrete ground was left without a single trace.
Only a wisp of chilling wind howled as it swept past the corner of the alley, as if offering the final proof that something had happened.
...
"Cough, cough..."
Ring City.
Inside a concrete building in the Iron Ring District, a man in a wide-brimmed hat coughed lightly a few times.
Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. His face was pale, and his pupils glowed an eerie green.
He lowered the arm clutching his chest, walked to a corner of the room, and opened a brown leather case, taking out several vials he had prepared inside.
After consuming several types of healing potions one after another, his Magic Power gradually recovered, and his injuries stabilized.
After a dozen or so breaths,
"Biotechnology Company..."
He wiped the blood from his mouth and looked out the window.
Several drones flew past outside, seemingly searching for something.
Eventually, after several search teams failed to find any leads, the Biotechnology Company’s hovercars finally withdrew and moved on to a new target area.
’What terrible luck, to be targeted by a mega-corporation,’ he thought.
’Could it be that their people took the Holy Scripture?’
He coughed lightly again, a hint of uncertain speculation rising within him.
He had only intended to go near the apartment building in Sector Two to check for traces of the Holy Scripture. Instead, he had been spotted by people from the Biotechnology Company lying in wait nearby. For a whole month, they had relentlessly hunted him, giving him no quarter.
"Cough, cough..."
His thoughts were interrupted by his coughing. He felt the backlash of his Magic Power and the severe trauma to his body, forcing him to regulate his breathing once more to suppress his injuries.
Afterward, he took out his communicator, intending to contact his magical apprentice who was pursuing another lead.
CRACK!
A strange sound suddenly came from the leather case in front of him. His expression tightened, and he turned his head to look.
It was a black pearl.
It was supposed to emit an eerie green glow, representing the light of life.
But at this moment, it had suddenly shattered, its light gone.
"He’s dead?"
...
BZZZT!!
「Half an hour later.」
Red Maple City Circle, Satellite City No. 4.
A stream of hovercars descended from the sky, rushing to the plaza area.
A quick glance around revealed a scene of devastation.
The block, ravaged by an explosion, was covered in scorch marks. Dozens of cars were twisted and deformed, their glass shattered. Some were still burning or even suffering secondary explosions.
The smooth asphalt road and the surrounding brick-paved streets were pockmarked with bullet holes and craters. A lamppost lay toppled on its side, its severed cables still sparking.
All around, patrol teams and professional medics from the Superpower Bureau moved back and forth. Even the local veteran families had been alerted, as a continuous stream of medical vehicles from the Jinggang Chamber of Commerce appeared to help treat the injured.
"Hiss!"
Receiving treatment beside a medical vehicle, Chen Xiao sucked in a sharp breath, grimacing in pain.
Two field medics were gathered around him, using tweezers to extract a blood-stained bullet from his left arm.
After a round of disinfection, they quickly bandaged the wound with gauze.
Lu Chao watched this silently before retracting his gaze and looking over at the other members of Team Five.
Including the members of the field team, there were over a dozen people in total.
Four of them were injured, but thankfully, none of the wounds were fatal. The injuries and bullet wounds were mostly on their limbs. Only one person had been shot in the lower abdomen, but their combatant’s physique had allowed them to pull through.
"Are you all right?"
"Don’t worry, Captain Lu. We can take it,"
the injured team members said with a grin, forcing themselves to nod.
Lu Chao clapped them on the shoulder, offered a few words of comfort, and approved several days of temporary leave for them.
