Achieving Demon Godhood from Unlocking Talents
Chapter 341 43: Breakthrough, Seasoned Limit-Breaking LevelThis was a special trait that surpassed the ordinary Limit-Breaking Level, an effect gained only by tempering one's Qi Flame to a higher plane. It amplified the flame's characteristics and augmented its power to a certain degree.
It was just like Lei Wanjun, who could cover his entire body with the Thunder Extreme Flame, transforming it into scaled armor and taking on a form that was incredibly close to the Thunder Eagle Beast King.
Speed, defense, destructive power—everything received a significant, comprehensive boost.
"But I'm not quite there yet."
With a flash in his eyes, Lu Chao gave it a try.
The Qi Flame covering his body flowed continuously, changing form. For now, he could only manage to solidify it on certain parts of his body.
Such as his arms, or his chest and abdomen.
'To solidify the Qi Flame across my entire body, I'll probably need to master the Hundred Refinements technique.'
'By then, my Life Energy should break 150 points, reaching the Limit-Breaking Peak.'
After a few attempts, Lu Chao had a general grasp of his progress.
He grew even more excited when he thought of the Exploration Level, where one could externally release Qi Flame, unleashing powerful shockwaves with every punch and kick.
He then took a moment to gradually adapt to the changes in his strength.
Lu Chao straightened himself up, then walked out of the gravity room.
As the heavy, silver metal door opened, a rush of fresh air swept in from outside.
His body suddenly felt light, as if he could leap over ten meters into the air. His heartbeat, blood flow, and even his breathing all felt much easier.
As expected, he knew this was due to the difference in gravity, which caused a temporary sensory discrepancy.
He stepped forward and walked down the corridor.
Each step was steady and powerful as his muscles gradually adapted to the normal gravitational environment. The sensory discrepancy slowly faded, no longer interfering with his judgment.
As he walked, he overheard some hushed discussions coming from the rest area.
He paused, catching the lowered voices.
"I heard Leader Li went into the wilderness. Not only did he fail to find Ma Biao, but he also ran into a Beast King and nearly got injured."
"Tsk, don't even talk about it. I heard he was throwing a fit a couple of days ago. Anyone who goes near him now is just asking for it."
"No wonder. I was just thinking about why he's been looking so gloomy lately..."
'Oh?'
Intrigued, Lu Chao glanced at the figures in the training area's rest section.
The members of the Third Superpower Team all had their heads slightly lowered, their moods seemingly suppressed, as if someone had struck a nerve.
It was clear that Li Xiyuan had failed again. His team members might have even suffered serious injuries.
Lu Chao looked away, pushed the stray thoughts from his mind, and continued walking.
'I wonder how Gao Hu's investigation is going.'
...
「One week later.」
Underground, in the Hive District.
Several black Sharp Light sedans drove slowly through the streets. Five or six patrol cars and a black Superpower Bureau jeep flanked the convoy.
"I asked, Leader,"
"Brother Hu said they still haven't found any news on Ma Biao. On the other hand, the other commanders of the Iron Sand Army have been very active, frequently causing a stir in the wilderness..."
In the jeep following the convoy, Chen Xiao, wearing a black combat suit and a headset, reported the details from the driver's seat.
Lu Chao, sitting in the back seat, nodded.
He wasn't particularly disappointed. He had been getting daily updates from Gao Hu for the past week, so he was already used to this result.
"Oh, right."
As if remembering something, Chen Xiao suddenly lowered his voice. "Those punks from the Copper Pattern Gang you had Captain Yang take in last time... their leader, the one called Ah Liang, agreed to work with Captain Yang."
"He agreed to be an informant. Apparently, he lives right here in the Hive District."
Lu Chao was taken aback for a moment before he realized who Chen Xiao was talking about.
Two months ago, while raiding a Rebel hideout, a few gang members had tried to sell him a company loan. He'd had Yang Heng take them away afterward.
By some strange twist of fate, one of his captains had taken a liking to the guy and decided to develop him as an informant.
"Is his background clean?"
"No major issues. He's hurt people before, but they were all gang members who had done their share of terrible things."
Chen Xiao smiled. "Captain Yang was very thorough. He sent someone to the Hive District to look into him. Turns out that Ah Liang fellow is actually a pretty stand-up guy. A lot of the neighbors had good things to say about him..."
As he spoke, the convoy began to slow down, apparently approaching the next inspection area.
Lu Chao listened quietly, not saying much.
Every Superpower Squad had the authority to develop informants. It was a standard way to expand their intelligence network.
Gang members, company employees, black market traders... as long as their background wasn't too dirty and their moral character wasn't completely shot, they had a chance to pass the screening.
He usually didn't get involved in such minor matters, but he couldn't help but sigh internally as a particular figure came to mind.
'I wonder how Brother Hao is doing these days.'
He thought about the Tiger Flame Army, which Senior Brother Zheng had mentioned. He had meant to look into it, but he had been too busy with other matters to get around to it.
While he was lost in thought, the convoy finally came to a stop at the foot of a dense cluster of low-rise concrete buildings.
The white paint on the crosswalk was peeling. Moss grew along the sides of the old asphalt road, creeping up to the concrete paving stones outside the surrounding shops and tenements.
Following the black pipes that snaked from a nearby sewer drain, one's eyes were drawn to the gray, low-rise buildings packed tightly together. Each structure was hundreds of meters wide, its face a dense matrix of dozens of windows. They stared down at the street like countless pairs of silent eye sockets, creating a cramped, oppressive atmosphere.
"Squad One, Squad Two, secure the street."
"Squads Three and Four, you're on patrol rotation..."
Several orders crackled over the combat comms channel. Lu Chao gave his own commands as he stepped out of the black jeep.
CLOMP! CLOMP!
His black combat boots hit the thick asphalt. Lu Chao scanned his surroundings.
Yao Jin emerged from another car, a silver longsword in hand. She met his gaze and gave a slight nod.
The two of them then strode toward the central black Sharp Light sedan, each leading several of their own members.
The Superpower Members moved with practiced coordination. Some guarded the convoy, rifles at the ready while communicating over their headsets. Others quickly fanned out, forming two-person teams to patrol the key nearby intersections in shifts.
CLICK!
In an instant, everyone was in position.
The door of the black Sharp Light sedan was pulled open by a burly security guard, and Luo Xuan, an official wearing a gray woolen overcoat, stepped out.
"Leader Yao, Leader Lu, I must trouble you again."
Luo Xuan said softly. Though his expression remained stern, his tone was considerably milder than before.
The Exploration Level expert behind him also nodded at Lu Chao and Yao Jin, showing goodwill.
Over the past month, the inspection officials and the security team had grown familiar with one another, the initial distance between them having faded.
"You're too kind, Secretary Luo. This is just our duty," Yao Jin replied with a smile. Lu Chao did the same.
Seeing this, Luo Xuan nodded and dispensed with further pleasantries. He then led several of his assistants and the accompanying technical engineers toward the concrete complex.
"Sister Yao."
"Let's go together."
Yao Jin nodded. Her silver longsword in hand, she projected an air of reliability.
Lu Chao nodded, then casually glanced back toward the convoy.
Du Lie, the one he didn't get along with, was also there today. He was staying with the convoy, leading a dozen or so patrol officers to maintain a perimeter. Another Superpower Team leader from a different branch was there as well, responsible for covering their rear.
He pulled his gaze back and waved a hand, signaling for Yang Heng, Chen Xiao, and the others to bring their squads and follow.
A moment later, the inspection party entered the concrete complex, gradually vanishing from the sight of the pedestrians on the street.
Witnessing this, the pedestrians outside the roadside shops began to murmur amongst themselves as the neon signs on the concrete walls flickered.
Everything seemed normal.
But...
FFFT.
A cigarette butt was dropped and crushed.
Punks squatting by the roadside and office workers clutching briefcases all exchanged subtle, knowing glances.
In a nearby restaurant, a patron calmly picked up a napkin to wipe his mouth. On a rooftop high above, a young man in a hoodie stood with his hands in his pockets, gazing down at the district with a cold, detached look.
And inside a clothing store...
...a woman in red, wearing sunglasses, suddenly smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
She gently tapped her wireless earpiece and spoke a single command.
"Get ready... move."
