Chapter 272: Chapter 164: I Played No Small Part in This

「Two days later.」

On a hillside in the wilderness, Pei Ze and his party slowly touched down.

"This is it."

Yin Xue took out her Magic Map and glanced at it, her expression growing serious.

"Pei Lingjie and his group are heading this way. They should pass through here in about half an hour."

Pei Ze raised an eyebrow, glancing at the Magic Map in Yin Xue’s hand. It seemed Pei Lingjie’s map had been tampered with. The Witch Hunting Team had been tracking their movements all along.

"Everyone, get ready. The moment the targets arrive, we strike," Ji Sheng said in a low, serious voice.

As soon as he finished speaking, he raised his hand and cast an Invisibility Spell Ball, enveloping everyone inside.

The entire group vanished from sight.

Yin Xue took out several vials of potion and handed them to the others.

"This is Hidden God Potion. It temporarily dampens your Spirit fluctuations, making you harder for other Wizards to detect."

Pei Ze accepted the potion, studied it for a few seconds, then uncorked the vial and downed it in one go.

Hidden God Potion was a type of Tier Two Potion. Its effect was simple, but highly practical.

Wizards typically used it for ambushes.

A single dose of Hidden God Potion was enough to reduce the Spirit fluctuations of any Wizard below Level 4 to an almost imperceptible level.

Unless one was a Level 4 Wizard, it was nearly impossible to detect.

Combined with the Invisibility Spell Ball, it made them utterly undetectable.

After taking the potions, the group settled in to wait patiently.

About half an hour later, several figures appeared on the horizon, just as expected.

Even the weakest person present had the constitution of a Legendary Knight, so their eyesight was superb. They immediately made out the forms of the approaching figures.

"It’s Pei Lingjie’s group!" Yin Xue said in a hushed voice. "There are two fewer than what the intel said. They must have suffered losses on their mission."

Ji Sheng gave a slight nod, signaling for everyone to prepare.

To avoid being detected early, they had to wait for their targets to get within a certain distance before casting their Magic. They would only get one chance, so they had to ensure this opening barrage weakened the enemy’s forces as much as possible.

The hillside fell silent as everyone instinctively held their breath.

Pei Ze’s eyes were locked on the distant figures, the fingers of his right hand slightly splayed, ready to strike at a moment’s notice.

As the distance shrank, everyone’s expressions grew more intense, their bodies tensing in anticipation.

However, when they were still about a kilometer from the ambush point, Pei Lingjie suddenly stopped. He scanned his surroundings, a flicker of doubt on his face.

Then, a deep blue light flared in his eyes as he slowly surveyed the area again.

"The Eye of Truth!"

The complexions of Yin Xue and the others changed in unison.

The Eye of Truth was a Sixth Ring Spell capable of seeing through most illusions, including their Invisibility Spell Ball.

Ji Sheng made a snap decision, hissing, "Attack!"

The instant he spoke, a dull yellow light materialized at his fingertip and shot toward Pei Lingjie’s group like an arrow loosed from its string.

The others attacked as well, unleashing a torrent of Magic.

Pei Ze clenched his hand in the empty air. Silvery liquid metal rapidly converged into a spear, and lightning coiled around it. A Thunder Spear formed in an instant, and the next second, it howled through the air toward the distant targets.

As if by unspoken agreement, they all targeted the other five Wizards.

They all knew that at this range, even with a surprise attack, it was nearly impossible to kill a Level 3 Wizard.

It was better to use this opportunity to eliminate the other targets and reduce the pressure for the fight to come.

Although Pei Lingjie’s actions gave the Pei Family Wizards behind him a moment’s warning, they never expected an ambush by fellow Wizards. Caught completely off guard, they immediately suffered devastating losses.

A Second-level Wizard was struck by the yellow light from Ji Sheng’s fingertip. His body froze instantly. Starting from the point of impact, his skin rapidly turned to stone. In the blink of an eye, he had become a statue, which then fell to the ground and shattered.

SHKT!

Amidst an ear-piercing sonic boom, the Thunder Spear tore through the air and brutally pierced a Second-level Wizard’s chest. Blazing lightning erupted, instantly turning him to char.

In a single instant, two Second-level Wizards had been killed almost simultaneously.

The few who remained were thrown into chaos by the sudden magical assault, left in a desperate and sorry state.

"Wizards?!"

Pei Lingjie’s expression turned grim. He immediately released a transparent Energy Force Field, enveloping himself and his three surviving subordinates.

At the same time, his eyes, still glowing with that deep blue light, looked in the direction the Magic had come from. He quickly spotted Ji Sheng and the others, hidden by the Invisibility Spell Ball.

"Ji Sheng!"

Recognizing the leader, Pei Lingjie’s pupils contracted. Then he saw Yin Xue and, to his shock, Pei Ze among the attackers, and a terrible premonition bloomed in his heart.

"Has the Yin Family gone insane? How dare you attack us! Are you trying to start a war?"

"There’s no need for probing questions, Pei Lingjie," Ji Sheng sneered. "I’ll tell you the truth. The Pei Family’s research and cultivation of vile creatures has been exposed. The Star Realm Alliance Council has issued a decree to purge the Pei Family. After today, the Pei Family will be history."

At these words, the color drained from the faces of Pei Lingjie and his men.

"Nonsense! That’s a malicious lie! How could our family possibly be involved with vile creatures—"

One of the Pei Family Wizards couldn’t stop himself from cursing, but as he spoke, he caught sight of Pei Lingjie’s incredibly grim expression out of the corner of his eye. His voice trailed off, his face a mask of disbelief.

The other two Wizards also stared at Pei Lingjie, their eyes wide with horror.

Pei Lingjie’s face was ashen. He said nothing.
