CRACK!
Seven or eight Rock Shields shattered in an instant. Debris scattered in every direction, pockmarking the surrounding ground.
Tining hastily retreated, dodging the rainbow tendrils that shot toward her.
Before she could even catch her breath, a dense swarm of blurry, humanoid phantoms lunged at her, letting out shrill, ghoul-like howls.
Meanwhile, the Flame-toothed Giant Elephant stood with raging flames burning in its mouth, poised to strike, waiting for her to reveal an opening before launching a ferocious attack.
Faced with a siege from three level-four beings, even the Ancient Tree Deer Spirit Race Leader, renowned for her defensive prowess, found herself in peril.
She wanted to escape, but the enemy’s assault was too relentless, giving her no opportunity at all.
Tining wasn’t skilled in offense. She could manage to defend herself, but defeating her enemies was a hopeless dream.
"It’s useless! Stop struggling in vain!"
Owlwood let out a piercing, bizarre laugh that sounded like a sinister, howling wind. It was laced with a hint of despair, an attempt to affect the Half Deer Maiden’s will to fight.
"You’re no match for us. Surrender now, and we’ll make it less painful for you."
However, Tining remained unmoved. She gritted her teeth, and the earthy, yellow light on her antlers grew brighter and more focused.
Watching this, Owlwood, the Rainbow Tree Rope Demon, and the Flame-toothed Giant Elephant all tensed up. They knew Tining was about to go all out, and they instantly focused their attention.
Sure enough, the next second, Tining stomped her front hooves hard. A deafening BOOM resounded as a visible yellow ripple expanded outward from her in all directions. Wherever the ripple passed, the ground trembled and cracked, shooting up sharp spikes.
Owlwood, the Rainbow Tree Rope Demon, and the Flame-toothed Giant Elephant scrambled to dodge, and an opening instantly appeared in their encirclement. Tining seized the chance, leaping forward. Enveloped in a dense, earthy yellow halo, she shot into the distance like a meteor.
"After her! Don’t let her get away!"
Seeing its prey about to escape, the Rainbow Tree Rope Demon grew incredibly anxious.
Owlwood sneered. "Don’t worry. She’s burning through her own power. She won’t last long."
As they spoke, the three gave chase to Tining with menacing auras.
Four streaks of light chased one another across the sky—one in front, three behind.
The one in front fled at top speed while the pursuers gave chase relentlessly. The distance between them remained at roughly a thousand meters.
Seeing this, Owlwood snorted. A crack split open on its pitch-black trunk again, forming a giant mouth that spat out a dusty gray beam of light.
A sinister, chilling aura reeking of decay erupted from the swirling light.
The beam instantly crossed the thousand-meter distance, striking Tining like an arrow.
In that instant, the light around Tining dimmed rapidly, flickering precariously like a candle about to go out.
Her speed dropped in an instant, and in the blink of an eye, Owlwood and the other two caught up to her again.
"I told you, your struggles are futile."
Owlwood sneered at Tining.
The Half Deer Maiden bit her lip as despair welled up from the depths of her heart.
’Am I really going to die here today?’
Just then, a sudden RUMBLE of thunder sounded, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.
In the distant sky, clouds began to swirl, and lightning flashed within the vortex. Then, countless arcs of lightning and balls of thunder erupted from the swirling clouds, coalescing into a single, solidified bolt of lightning as thick as a bucket. It tore through the void, hurtling toward them at incredible speed!
The lightning was too fast to react to. In the blink of an eye, it struck the Rainbow Tree Rope Demon, which immediately let out a series of piercing shrieks, its body convulsing violently!
With just a single strike, the Rainbow Tree Rope Demon was heavily wounded.
"Who’s there!" Owlwood cried out in shock.
The Flame-toothed Giant Elephant was also startled, its horrified gaze fixed on the direction from which the lightning had come.
ZZZT!
A meteor of incandescent white lightning streaked over and landed beside Tining. The light dissipated, revealing a tall, slender figure.
The moment she clearly saw the newcomer, an unprecedented wave of joy filled Tining’s heart, sweeping away all her prior despair and sorrow.
"Pei Ze!"
"Sorry I’m late." Pei Ze gazed apologetically at the Half Deer Maiden.
"I’m fine." Tining quickly shook her head, a brilliant smile blooming on her face. "I knew you would come."
Pei Ze smiled and nodded, but when his eyes swept over Tining’s pale face, his smile faded. By the time he looked back at Owlwood and the other two, his eyes were filled with ice.
Owlwood and the Flame-toothed Giant Elephant both stared at Pei Ze as if facing a great enemy.
The power displayed in that last attack had undoubtedly reached the fourth level!
What chilled Owlwood even more was the man’s identity.
"An Elemental Mage!" Owlwood said in a grim tone. "I never thought a Mage from the Star Realm Alliance would get involved in the affairs of our plane."
It was clear now. This Elemental Mage was the Ancient Tree Deer Spirit Race’s escape plan.
For a moment, Owlwood was both shocked and jealous.
Elemental Mages were far better than demons, and the Star Realm Alliance was an infinitely better haven than Bator Hell.
’How in the world did Tining convince an Elemental Mage to work with her?’
"You bastard! I’ll kill you!"
Having recovered, the Rainbow Tree Rope Demon let out a furious roar and whipped its tendrils madly at Pei Ze.
Seeing this, Owlwood barked, "Attack!" and lunged at Pei Ze as well.
The Flame-toothed Giant Elephant hesitated for a moment, sighed, and then joined the attack.
The sudden appearance of an Elemental Mage as an enemy made the battle’s difficulty skyrocket.
Even if they won, they would likely have to pay a heavy price.
But things had already come to this. There was no backing down now. They could only brace themselves and fight.
