Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.

Chapter 112 - 110: The White-Haired Crone

Chapter 112: Chapter 110: The White-Haired Crone

BOOM!

Dust and debris filled the corridor!

Feng Ling kept her eyes wide open, not missing a single detail in the aftermath of the explosion. As the statue collapsed amidst the thick smoke, she instantly felt the formless pressure vanish.

Her body suddenly felt light.

In that very second, Feng Ling didn’t hesitate for a moment! She shot down the steps like an arrow!

She strode forward, heading straight for the clay statue. The moment she was close, she immediately used her mark!

The clay statue, originally painted with colorful lacquer, now had a scorched-black torso. Soot had stained its rainbow-hued robes, and its "beautiful and benevolent" face was shattered. Most disturbingly, after its black eyes cracked, fresh red blood began to seep out—

Feng Ling’s heart leaped in her chest.

’I should have known. How could the inside of a clay statue still be clay? It’s clearly filled with flesh and blood!’

That meant this clay statue could feel pain. It could be wounded, it could bleed, and it could die!

Her Teeth and Claws could rip open its wounds!

Her Bone Blade could pierce its throat!

’Now is the perfect time!’

Feng Ling’s breathing quickened, and the desire to kill surged through her veins. The Divine Statue before her cracked open inch by inch, revealing a trembling heart. It felt as if a single strike would be enough to end its life!

Just then, Feng Ling heard someone calling her name.

Some were shouting "Feng Ling," while others called out "Xiao Ling."

’The one calling me Xiao Ling has to be Deputy Pei,’ Feng Ling thought. ’Only she would use such a cheesy nickname.’

The thought brought Feng Ling back to her senses. She then recalled something Li Qing had said: ’When you act, know when to stop.’

’Know when to stop...’

Sensing that something was wrong, she frowned slightly and cautiously retreated to the steps, returning to the safe house.

The moment her foot crossed into the safe house, she heard everyone let out a heavy sigh of relief, as if she had just escaped some grave danger.

"You scared me to death..." Pei Xianjue sighed. "You were just standing there, completely still. You scared the soul right out of me."

"I was still?" Feng Ling was stunned. "But I felt like I only paused for a second or two."

"You were stopped for at least half a minute!" Huangfu Miaomiao’s voice rose with anxiety.

’How could it have been that long?’

Feng Ling looked suspiciously toward the end of the corridor. Flesh and blood were surging out of the broken clay statue, as if some alien creature was struggling to break free from its clay shell. The crack and the heart she had seen just moments before were gone.

"Maybe it confuses its enemies’ senses when it’s near death," Baozi said in a low voice. "It’s like my Lucky Heaven. When it senses danger, it releases a pheromone that suppresses killing intent. I guess spiritual-type abilities have some things in common."

"Whatever it released just now, it definitely wasn’t a pheromone to suppress killing intent." Feng Ling’s expression was grim, her eyes fixed on the clay statue. "It seems to have made me hallucinate. It was luring me in..."

The feeling was a bit like being back in Fox Village, and a theory began to form in her mind.

The clay statue had already become a gory, bloody mass. Dry, grass-like hair sprouted from the lump of flesh. The whole process was incredibly fast; the outlines of four limbs were visible within seconds.

Feng Ling frowned and held out a hand to Huangfu Miaomiao. "Grenade."

Huangfu Miaomiao froze for a second before snapping to it, quickly pulling a grenade from her bag and placing it in Feng Ling’s hand.

Feng Ling immediately pulled the pin, cocked her arm back, and threw it—

BOOM!!!

The second explosion filled the corridor with acrid smoke, blasting the rock walls on both sides into fragments. Before Feng Ling could get a clear look at the statue, countless black bugs flew out of the smoke! A swarming mass rushed toward the memorial archway!

Not only that, but innumerable skull-headed spiders also surged up the steps like a tide!

Everyone stumbled back in shock. The black bugs and spiders passed straight through the archway and into the safe house’s domain!

Pei Xianjue drew her blade and unleashed a torrent of fire.

This move was incredibly effective against the bugs and spiders, incinerating a large swath of them at once.

Feng Ling’s ability, on the other hand, was of little use in this situation. She managed to sweep away a dozen or so spiders with her Bone Blade, but she was helpless against the black bugs in the air.

The group fought back as they retreated, and it wasn’t until they were inside the Three Pure Ones Palace that the black bugs and spiders finally dispersed.

The red mist outside also faded, gradually turning into an ordinary grayish-white fog.

The Maze Master had left.

Inside the safe house, everyone was covered in dead black bugs, as if they had been sprinkled with a layer of black sesame seeds.

Feng Ling brushed the little black bugs off her clothes and realized her body didn’t feel as awful as before.

Looking up at the others, she saw their complexions were all normal.

"It seems we have antibodies to the plague," Feng Ling said. "That fruit really worked after all. No wonder the Fox Demon was so persistent about running up the mountain. I just don’t know how long the antibodies will last."

Pei Xianjue caught her breath and looked up at her, at a loss for words. "You... Next time, could you give us a heads-up? Suddenly throwing another grenade like that really caught us off guard."

"..." Feng Ling was silent for two seconds before explaining, "I lack experience with teamwork, so I forgot. I’ll give a warning next time."

Having lived alone, she was used to making all her own decisions. Teamwork required coordination, and many things needed to be announced in advance. This was something Feng Ling was still getting used to.

Pei Xianjue adjusted quickly as well. She let out a laugh and teased, "Well, we did learn a few things. At least we know the fruit grants immunity to the plague virus, and we also know... that grenades can’t kill it."

"Should we go steal some more of that fruit, then? What if the antibodies wear off? That Boss unleashes those bugs at the drop of a hat..." Huangfu Miaomiao said, still shaken.

Feng Ling thought for a moment. "You guys rest first. I’ll go see where the Maze Boss is now."

She found a place to sit down and closed her eyes.

Seeing this, the others instinctively quieted down and held their breath, so as not to disturb her.

The scene from the corridor appeared before Feng Ling’s eyes. A red, ribbon-like wisp of mist was winding its way up the mountain path—

"Mother’s Thoughts" quickly caught up to the marked target.

By now, it had completely transformed into the shape of an old crone, its entire body draped in messy, dry, whitish hair that resembled moss, along with the charred and tattered rainbow-hued robes from the explosion.

Innumerable spiders followed it along the path, and the black bugs flew into its black-hole-like eye sockets. It seemed commanding these disease-carrying vermin was one of its signature Skills.

’Spiritual Suppression, spreading plagues... what other tricks do you have up your sleeve?’ Feng Ling thought silently.

Her vision followed the white-haired crone to the mountain peak, where she saw the Minotaur they had painstakingly killed lying asleep under a tree. The wound on its ankle, along with all the other injuries on its body, had completely vanished.

Feng Ling’s heart sank.

’How could I forget? The Immortality Potion is The Queen Mother of the West’s most troublesome ability. It can continuously resurrect all the creatures in the Maze, making them immortal!’

The white-haired crone hurried into the Ancient Tower and suddenly lunged toward the altar table inside!

On the table were offerings of purple fruit, each one a more vibrant purple and plumper than any they had eaten before.

The crone opened its seemingly toothless mouth impossibly wide, far beyond human limits.

Its tongue and palate were covered in concentric circles of fine, sharp serrations, enough to grind the fruit to a pulp. It then gulped it down, eating like a wild beast as purplish-red juice dribbled down its chin and chest.

Feng Ling watched, stunned, until it stopped. A scab-like layer of clay formed over its skin—and it finally transformed back into the graceful and benevolent Divine Statue in the tower.
