Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.

Chapter 134 - 132: Borrowing the Tiger’s Might

Chapter 134: Chapter 132: Borrowing the Tiger’s Might

Feng Ling didn’t intentionally miss Zhou Diao’s call.

She was taking a bath.

Of course, the Hunter-exclusive phone had impeccable waterproof capabilities, but she wasn’t in the habit of taking her phone into the bathroom.

The apartment provided for the Inspector in Yuquan City was decorated to the standard of a five-star hotel. The furnishings were brand new, and the bathroom was incredibly luxurious.

The attendant who received Feng Ling didn’t know Huangfu Miaomiao was an Alien Species. They thought she was Feng Ling’s younger sister and even sent over a set of little yellow bath ducks—the kind that quack when you squeeze them.

Feng Ling lay in the bathtub, squeezing them for a good while.

Huangfu Miaomiao had no such hobby. She washed up quickly in the glass shower stall and got out.

A moment later, Huangfu Miaomiao poked her head back in and asked Feng Ling, who was still in the bathroom, "The attendant brought up dinner. It’s a standard serving for two. Should I say something to them?"

Feng Ling, her eyes blissfully closed, replied, "No need. We’ll just have a little."

Because she was used to storing up energy in advance, her appetite was always shockingly large. This was to avoid the awkward situation of running out of energy when using her ability.

"...I don’t feel particularly hungry this time. It might be because I ate those purple fruits in the Maze." Feng Ling opened her eyes and patted her stomach through the water.

At the mention of the purple fruits, Huangfu Miaomiao couldn’t help but sigh. "After the Daoist closed the Maze, all the fruits we brought out rotted."

Feng Ling slowly swirled the foam on the water’s surface. "...He said that after the Maze was closed, all Maze Creatures would die. It seems the fruits count as Maze Creatures, too. A shame."

The only physical objects they had brought out of the Maze were a short sword and a greatsword that Baozi had.

These weapons from treasure boxes weren’t some kind of divine armaments; they were just ordinary forged metal of average quality, good enough to use in a pinch.

They were pretty much useless outside the Maze. Their greatest value was probably sentimental.

Therefore, if not for the hidden danger of the Mazes spreading pollution, there would be no need for humans to risk entering them at all.

The reason Feng Ling had entered the Maze was because her Pollution Value had become a threat to her, and also because she was partly driven by morbid curiosity.

After a moment’s thought, she stood up, rinsed the foam from her body, and, wrapping herself in a bathrobe, said to Huangfu Miaomiao, "Go get Li Qing."

"Oh." Huangfu Miaomiao turned and left.

Li Qing’s room was right next door.

He was studying the room’s door, windows, and security system, trying to figure out how to leave without attracting attention. But with guards patrolling the building, both the elevators and the fire escape were out of the question.

’What about jumping straight out the window? ...The floor seems a little high. My body would probably be smashed to bits, right?’

Just as he was getting anxious, he suddenly heard a "HAHAHA" from behind him.

Li Qing jumped in surprise and spun around. He saw a puddle of black shadow on the carpet, from which Huangfu Miaomiao’s head was partially emerging. She laughed at his misfortune. "Hahaha! Scared you, didn’t I? Panicking, are we?"

Li Qing’s expression darkened. "Why didn’t you knock before coming in?"

"If I had knocked, how would I have discovered you were trying to sneak away?" Huangfu Miaomiao huffed. "I’m going to tell Feng Ling!"

Li Qing: "..."

He was utterly speechless. "Have you forgotten? You’re a player too. Humans despise players. Aren’t you afraid of being dissected by them if you stay here?"

Huangfu Miaomiao’s expression faltered slightly, but then she said, "Stop trying to stir up trouble! I’m Feng Ling’s assistant now. Feng Ling would never let anyone take me away!"

She raised her chin proudly and added, "But you’re different. Hmph. You’re a Maze Administrator. To solve the problem of spreading Maze pollution, humans might just drag you off for experiments, you know."

Li Qing said, "The Maze I was in charge of has already been cleared. I have no value left to exploit, not for humans, and not for the other players."

"Then why were you trying to run away?" Huangfu Miaomiao put on a fierce look. "You’re being dishonest. Come with me to see Feng Ling now! Let’s go!"

Li Qing’s expression was grim.

He wasn’t intimidated by Huangfu Miaomiao’s threats, but he knew that threats made in the name of someone powerful were often effective.

He silently opened the door and followed Huangfu Miaomiao to see Feng Ling.

By this time, Feng Ling had changed into a comfortable white sweatsuit and was eating dinner at the table.

Seeing the two of them enter, she casually asked, "Has the Daoist had dinner?"

Li Qing thought, ’I’ve told you so many times that I practice inedia, but you can’t seem to remember it even once.’

"Oh, right, I remember now. You practice inedia." Feng Ling picked up a piece of sweet and sour fish and slowly removed the bones.

’It tastes pretty good. Compared to the food back in Qingjiang City, it has a different kind of flavor.’

’The stir-fried pork with bamboo shoots is also tasty, and the Zhenzhu meatballs aren’t bad either...’

Huangfu Miaomiao sidled up to tattle, "Feng Ling, he was just trying to sneak away! When I entered his room, he was leaning out the window, about to jump!"

Feng Ling paused, stunned, and looked at Li Qing. "Are you hurt?"

Huangfu Miaomiao yelled angrily, "Why are you worried about him?! He was trying to run away!"

Feng Ling just smiled nonchalantly. "It’s not like he actually got away, right?"

She looked at Li Qing and asked with a smile, "Why haven’t you logged off, Daoist? Weren’t you supposed to go offline after the Maze was cleared?"

Li Qing was silent for a moment before replying, "There are some things I need to do. I can’t log off just yet."

"Haven’t you fulfilled your duties as an Administrator? What else is there for you to do?" Feng Ling asked curiously.

Li Qing didn’t really want to answer.

But if he didn’t, Feng Ling would probably just have Huangfu Miaomiao ask him again. Bound by the contract, he would have to tell the truth then anyway.

"I could indeed log off right now. But after an Administrator logs off, they need to apply to the system for administrative authorization to log back in. Without that authorization, I can only log in as a ’visitor’ and can’t do anything. So... while I still have some of my abilities, I want to figure some things out."

Li Qing looked up, meeting Feng Ling’s eyes directly. "There’s a lot that not only you don’t understand, but that I don’t understand either. Why do players kill Administrators? Why is the system malfunctioning? And... what will this game ultimately become?"

After he finished, Feng Ling thought for a long time. "It sounds like those are all things that would be beneficial to humanity..."

She gently set down her chopsticks and looked at Li Qing. "In the Maze, you provided me with intel and information, which I consider a great help. In return, I should help you. However, from a human standpoint, it would be very strange for me to help an Alien Species escape. So, how about this—"

She placed a mark on Li Qing, then said with a smile, "I won’t help you escape, but I won’t stop you from escaping, either. We’ll see what you’re capable of~"

Li Qing: "..."

’Then why did you mark me?!’

’Why!!!’
