Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.
Chapter 72 - 70: Maze AdministratorChapter 72: Chapter 70: Maze Administrator
A corpse can only run so fast. How could it possibly outrun a Boss?
Li Qing had only run a few dozen meters when Feng Ling grabbed his shoulder from behind! Her five fingers dug in, gripping his shoulder blade, and yanked him backward! Li Qing immediately stumbled, pitching back—
Feng Ling then shoved his back, slamming him to the ground!
BAM!
Li Qing landed on his hands and knees, managing to break his fall just before his face hit the ground.
Feng Ling looked down at him and sneered. "The last one who reacted this strongly to seeing me in public was an Alien Species. And I killed it."
She glanced at the curious tourists gradually gathering around them. She reached down to haul Li Qing up and move their conversation to a more secluded spot.
But just as her hand reached him, a furry little thing suddenly shot out from his collar. It landed on Li Qing’s shoulder, bared its teeth at her, and started CHITTERING.
Feng Ling frowned. She couldn’t tell what the creature was. It looked like a Weasel, but its fur was a drab gray, not yellow at all.
While she was momentarily stunned, Li Qing scrambled to his feet, broke through the surrounding crowd, and bolted up the mountain!
—He was a Daoist; he could enter and exit Sanqing Mountain freely. Feng Ling, however, would have to get past the ticket gate.
Feng Ling didn’t move. She stood her ground, her gaze cold and sinister as she watched the Daoist’s figure disappear into the distance.
...
Li Qing ran with all his might!
To keep Feng Ling from catching him, he didn’t even take the normal stone path. Instead, he vaulted over the railing and plunged directly into the dense woods!
A little kid pointed at him and yelled, "Mom! Dad! Look! That Daoist knows Qinggong!"
"You’re seeing things, sweetie. That’s just a monkey from the mountain."
Li Qing was nearing exhaustion, yet a red skull icon remained floating in the upper-left corner of his vision.
He finally stopped running, realizing something was wrong.
’Why is this happening?’
’I’m clearly more than a hundred meters away from the hidden Boss. Why hasn’t the warning icon disappeared?’
’Is it impossible to escape, no matter what I do?’
Li Qing paced anxiously back and forth among the trees.
He was different from other players; he could see status effects from Skills. This bright red skull icon filled him with unease. He was almost certain the hidden Boss had put it there!
’Coming down the mountain today really was a disastrous idea!’
’What should I do now?’
’What do I do?’
’She’s seen my face and knows my name. Even if she doesn’t kill me herself, she’ll report me to the Inspection Bureau. I’ll be doomed either way.’
’Then again, why is the hidden Boss on Sanqing Mountain in the first place? Isn’t she supposed to be seriously injured and recuperating in Qingjiang City?’
’When she saw me just now, she didn’t try to kill me right away. Maybe she came to Sanqing Mountain for something else. This might not be a hopeless situation after all.’
The divination he’d performed before descending the mountain had resulted in the Kan trigram.
According to the *Tianji of Divination*, Kan represents a state of peril. In this situation, one must maintain faith to achieve a breakthrough.
Two waters overlapping—Kan is the peril of water. To advance is dangerous, but to retreat is also dangerous. This was the very definition of his dilemma.
To overcome the hardship, he had to maintain a clear mind and a positive attitude, actively creating opportunities to change his circumstances and turn danger into safety.
Having sorted through his thoughts, Li Qing took a deep breath, turned around, and walked out of the woods.
He would seize the initiative, go all in, and confront this hidden Boss head-on. He had to find out what she was really after.
...
After marking Li Qing, Feng Ling had no intention of giving chase.
There were too many people around, especially children. She worried that in the heat of the chase, she’d get pissed off and couldn’t resist pulling out one of her Teeth and Claws to slap the Daoist. The resulting bloody mess would leave a field of childhood trauma in its wake, and that just wouldn’t do.
She had marked him, anyway. She could just as easily hunt him down after the tourists cleared out for the night.
Feng Ling was about to head back to the parking lot when the Daoist’s figure reappeared in her line of sight. Amidst a crowd dressed in gaudy sun-protective clothing, his robes were particularly conspicuous.
He’d actually come back on his own.
The corners of Feng Ling’s lips curled into a smirk as she watched him, calm and unhurried.
Li Qing, in turn, was cautiously sizing up the hidden Boss.
She looked very young, around twenty, with her hair in a high ponytail. She was tall and slender, standing out in the crowd. Her legs were long and straight—not skinny, but lean and toned, like a cheetah’s.
As he drew closer, he realized that even her demeanor was like a cheetah’s—eyelashes lowered with a casual air, but with a cold, sharp glint that flashed in her eyes.
She had the frightening, composed confidence of a predator that knows its prey is cornered.
Li Qing’s steps grew slower, his mind replaying the message Dou Sha had sent him on the forum:
’What should I do now? I’m so scared T﹏T’
’So what part of *that* was "scared?"’
Li Qing couldn’t understand. He hadn’t exposed anything about himself during their forum exchange, had he? Was it really necessary for her to feign weakness just to probe him?
He stopped about ten paces from Feng Ling, his mind racing to come up with a plan.
Feng Ling looked him up and down, then asked with a wide smile, "Daoist, how about we find somewhere else to chat?"
The tone left no room for refusal.
"Where to?" Li Qing asked cautiously.
"The parking lot," Feng Ling said with a smile. "We’ll talk in my car."
Li Qing didn’t move, still watching her warily. "You’re not going to hand me over to the Inspection Bureau?"
Feng Ling raised an eyebrow, a vicious glint filling her eyes. She closed the distance in a few quick strides, looped her arm through his, and purred, "Let me say it again. We’re. Going. To. Talk. In. My. Car."
Li Qing: "..."
...
...
Li Qing decided on the way there that, no matter what, his first priority was to placate the hidden Boss.
’It was my own lack of composure that let the Boss realize I’m an Alien Species.’
’Thankfully, she doesn’t know about my other identity. Once we get there, I can pretend to cooperate, wait for her to let her guard down, and then find a chance to escape.’
’It’s just... this body will be a lost cause...’
’Sigh. Getting a fresh corpse from the morgue these days is no easy task...’
Li Qing’s thoughts were a chaotic mess. For the six months since he’d "logged in," he had always kept a low profile. Combined with his divination Skills, he had successfully avoided countless crises. This head-on collision with the hidden Boss was a massive shock to his system.
Feng Ling opened the car door, and a blast of cold air hit her, slightly soothing her irritable mood.
She shoved the Daoist into the car, slid in right after him, and slammed the door shut.
Hearing the noise, Huangfu Miaomiao turned her head and gasped in surprise!
Li Qing’s expression was just as shocked!
’Why is there a player in the car?!’
"Ah! Ahhh!" Huangfu Miaomiao shrieked, pointing at Li Qing. "The Maze Administrator!!!"
"What Maze Administrator?" Feng Ling frowned, looking at Li Qing.
Li Qing was frozen stiff inside the car.
Of all the things he’d considered, he had never once imagined there would be a player in the car!
Huangfu Miaomiao said in amazement, "This is my first time meeting a Maze Administrator! Oh my god, if the Maze Administrator is here, that means we’re heading in the right direction! The Maze must be nearby!"
Hearing this, the color drained from Li Qing’s face. "You’re trying to enter the Maze?!"
"So you know about the Maze." Feng Ling narrowed her eyes, staring at Li Qing. "Then why didn’t you react at all when I asked you the riddle?"
"It’s totally normal that he wouldn’t know the riddle. He’s just responsible for opening the Maze, like a key," Huangfu Miaomiao chirped, bouncing over. Her face was full of curiosity, and she couldn’t resist reaching out to poke and prod Li Qing.
"A Maze Administrator is basically a helper for the system, like a GM in a game. There are 122 Mazes in the world, and 122 corresponding administrators. This is my first time seeing a live one. This is amazing!"
