Feng Huaijin placed her on the washbasin, decisively turned on the faucet, pulled Su Li’s hand and started rinsing it, sighing with relief: "Luckily, it’s not scalding hot water."
It was just mildly warm water.
Su Li could feel the cool water gliding gently over the back of her hand, which was light and comfortable, and not cold in the autumn.
He held her up to sit suspended on the sink, their eyes darting back and forth, yet it remained pitch black.
A wave of irritability rose in her heart, and she struggled to jump down from the sink. Feng Huaijin pinned her back onto the sink and sternly scolded, "Do you have ADHD? Can’t you just sit still nicely?"
Su Li, pinned to the sink and unable to move, said with difficulty, "I... I’m not used to it."
She heard him coldly snort beside her, "You do realize you’re heavy enough to break the sink?"
Su Li: "..."
Feng Huaijin was as usual, unchanged, as if everything were normal.
Yet this appearance of normalcy brought a sourness to her nose, her heart ached to the extreme.
He wanted to pretend everything was normal, that nothing mattered.
But she felt so uncomfortable inside. "Tuanzi..."
As soon as these two words escaped her dry lips, Feng Huaijin took a towel and wiped her small hand, then directly picked her up and returned to the hospital bed, interrupting her words.
Feng Huaijin had the nurse change the bed sheets, sat down beside her, and said gently, "Do you want to eat an orange or some bayberries? Or are you hungry? I’ve got the home cook to make the chicken soup you like, it will be brought over soon."
Su Li grabbed the quilt covering her legs and involuntarily said, "Tuanzi..."
Feng Huaijin’s earlier gentle tone instantly turned icy sharp: "What Tuanzi? Now there’s only Su Li!"
Su Li’s heart chilled: "Your son."
Feng Huaijin replied, "You’re carrying a daughter."
Su Li didn’t know how to respond to Feng Huaijin, only felt cold all over, as if she had fallen into an ice cellar.
A piercing phone ringtone shattered the silence in the room, it was Feng Huaijin’s phone.
Feng Huaijin glanced at Su Li, whose face was as pale as a sheet and who seemed a bit out of it, his thin lips pressed down gently.
He took the phone to the window, looking at the golden leaves falling outside, his eyes somewhat absent-minded.
Vaguely remembering, Tuanzi had told him some time ago, "Papa, it’s autumn now, the leaves on the big tree at the villa door have all fallen off. Can we have time to sweep them all together, okay?"
"Huai Jin, is that you?" an elderly voice on the other end broke Feng Huaijin’s train of thought.
"Yes, hello."
The old voice on the other end chuckled and asked, "What’s up with you, young man? Didn’t you say you were bringing your son over for a math discussion? Nowadays, there are so few kids around six or seven who are interested in math, where is he?"
This was the math genius who had agreed to guide Tuanzi, a global math competition champion.
Feng Huaijin’s grip on the phone instantly tightened, his long narrow eyes darkening considerably, "I’m sorry, Professor, he may not be able to come learn math from you."
Sitting on the hospital bed, Su Li felt her heart go ice-cold at these words.
Her face was pale as she faced Feng Huaijin, trying to maintain a composed appearance, but her hands were searching beneath the covers.
Where is her phone?
