Alpha's Ruin: He Betrayed Me, I'll Make Him Kneel
Chapter 56: Breaking All Ties"Since you already have a full confession from Alpha Thorne," Kaleb’s voice sliced through the silence, sharp and desperate. "I guess I am is free to leave this den." He shifted his weight, already pushing off his thighs to stand.
"Sit down, Duskbane!" Elder Magnus’s voice exploded through the chamber, carrying a heavy spike of command that physically froze Kaleb in place.
Kaleb glared at the high tier, his nostrils flaring as he exhaled a bitter, defensive musk. "Why? He should be the one pinned to that chair, not me," he snarled, thrusting a finger toward Adam.
"Do you honestly believe you are seated in that box because of your heir’s disappearance alone?" Elder Seraphine asked. She slowly shook her head, her old eyes clouding with pure disgust as she looked down at him.
"Then what is this?" Kaleb shot back, his throat swelling with a harsh, defensive growl. "The pup is breathing. You all know now that I did not harm the boy. You should be returning my crest and letting me leave this hall."
"Alpha Kaleb Duskbane, your command was not stripped because your son went missing," Elder Magnus’s voice rumbled like thunder, vibrating the stone walls. "You are stripped because you commanded his throat to be cut. You are stripped because you let your mistress poison your Luna while she lay weak. You are stripped because you deliberately shattered the sacred mate bond given by the moon. You are stripped because your throne has become a sickness to every wolf running beneath it."
Kaleb scoffed, a wild, manic light flaring in his amber eyes, but the scent of his rising panic filled the air.
"You are guilty on every single count," Elder Magnus finished coldly.
Kaleb’s pupils shrunk to tiny slits. Shock unraveled his features. "Every real Alpha would do whatever it takes to keep his pack from looking weak! I did what the hierarchy demanded of me, and this Council cannot punish a King for protecting his borders!"
"We can, and we will break you for it!" Elder Rowan barked, slamming his heavy fist onto the stone dais with a crack that echoed off the high ceiling.
"Alpha Kaleb Duskbane," Elder Magnus chanted, his voice turning deep and ceremonial, invoking the ancient laws of the wild. "You are hereby stripped of all royal authority and political standing. You will no longer be recognized as an Alpha King anywhere in these territories. You may return to your lands, but your wolves are no longer bound by blood oath to follow you."
Kaleb’s mouth fell open. His chest heaved in shallow, frantic gasps, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird.
Elder Magnus turned his harsh gaze to the left side of the room. "Remove the silver crown from his head!"
Two hulking executioners nodded, their heavy leather boots thudding against the stone as they marched toward the box.
"No! No one touches my crown!" Kaleb roared, his wolf bleeding so heavily into his throat that his human voice shattered into a feral howl.
The executioners did not flinch. As they reached the box and stretched out their massive, scarred hands, Kaleb let out a rabid snarl. A sickening pop echoed through his shoulders as his bones began to crack and shift, fur ripping through his skin.
"Touch me and I will tear your—"
The words died in a choked gasp as both executioners slammed him down, forcing his knees to crack against the hard stone. Kaleb thrashed, his claws sliding out to scratch frantically at their armor, fighting with every ounce of raw alpha strength he had left to keep his status.
But it wasn’t enough. With a brutal twist, one of the executioners ripped the heavy silver crown straight from his hair. Kaleb’s hand flew to his brow, his fingers clawing at thin air. It was gone.
The former King unleashed a long, broken roar that bounced off the cold walls. "You will all bleed for this! Every single one of you!"
"Be grateful we do not lock you in silver chains beneath the mountain," Elder Rowan said, his voice dripping with icy contempt. "Escort him out of our sight and throw him past the gates."
"I am not leaving! Not without my crown and my boy!" Kaleb barked, saliva spitting from his lips as he struggled against the iron grip on his arms.
"Fine, then," Elder Magnus muttered. He looked at the guards, his eyes cold. "Throw him into the dirt."
As they dragged him backward, Kaleb’s desperate gaze locked onto Rhea. She sat perfectly still, her spine straight, feeling nothing but a cold, exhausted emptiness as she watched him fall.
"Enjoy this little victory while you can, Rhea!" Kaleb screamed, his boots scraping uselessly against the floorboards. "But I will get back my crown one way or another. And when I do, I am coming straight for you!"
Rhea didn’t blink. She didn’t shout back. She simply watched him disappear through the heavy doors, a soft scent of pity washing off her skin like morning mist.
Adam leaned his massive shoulder closer to hers, his baritone dropping into a low, protective purr. "My vanguard will always stand between you and him, Rhea," he murmured. "If he comes for you, he will have to come through BloodVeil first."
Rhea slowly pulled her gaze away from the doors, turning her silver eyes onto Adam, then upward to the high tier of the Council.
"Every single wolf in this chamber has made a decision about my child," she said, her voice quiet but carrying a sharp, cutting edge that instantly silenced the room. "Every single one. My mate. My enemies. My so-called allies. Even this sacred Council. Yet somehow, I am the only wolf who was never allowed to decide a damn thing for her own pup."
All eyes pinned to her, the air thickening.
"From this moment onward, I am breaking all ties with Ironfang and BloodVeil," she declared, her jaw lifting proudly. "I will find my own path."
Adam stiffened, his amber eyes widening. "You cannot be serious, Rhea."
Rhea ignored him entirely, keeping her gaze locked on the dais. "You have all fed me lies and withheld my son from me," she said, her tone trembling with a volatile mix of feral anger and maternal grief.
"Because of that, I am demanding immediate access to my boy. I am his mother, and I will see his face before the sun sets. Or this Council can prepare for the rogue uprising that will tear these borders apart!"
Before the high elders could unleash their commanding auras to silence her, Adam leaned across the space between them.
"I will take you to him myself," he said, his jaw twitching with a raw, heavy emotion.
The chamber went silent.
For the first time in months, Rhea’s heart dared to believe. Her son was waiting.
