The royal proclamation reached every territory before the next moonfall.
It was read aloud in town squares, posted at territory offices, and sent through every royal communication channel. Pack leaders gathered their people and read the message again, making sure no one misunderstood the king’s invitation.
All citizens of Santorini were welcome to return home for the coronation. Those who had been forced into exile were welcome, and those who had left because they no longer felt safe were welcome as well. No questions would be asked at the borders unless there was a genuine security concern.
For several moments after the announcement was read in one of the northern territories, no one moved. An elderly wolf stared at the proclamation in the administrator’s hands.
"Read it again," he said quietly.
The administrator looked down at the message and read the final lines once more.
"The kingdom is ready to receive its people, and His Highness, Alpha Brandon Oliver Frostbane, invites every citizen of Santorini to return home and witness the coronation of their new king."
The elderly wolf swallowed hard. "Can we really go home?"
The administrator nodded. "The royal seal is on the proclamation. The king has also ordered safe passage for those returning."
A woman standing near the back of the crowd pressed a hand over her mouth. Tears gathered in her eyes before she quickly wiped them away.
Somewhere in a foreign land, a man dropped a travel bag onto the ground.
"Pack your things," he said.
His mate turned toward him. "Now?"
He was already reaching for her hand. "Now."
The news spread quickly. Families who had spent winters living away from Santorini began pulling old trunks from storage. Parents woke their pups and told them they were going home. Older wolves who had stopped speaking about their former homes began searching through boxes for photographs and family keepsakes they had carried with them when they fled.
Within days, the roads leading back into Santorini were crowded with returning citizens. Cars, private vehicles, pack caravans, and wagons moved toward the kingdom from every direction, and before long, long lines of vehicles stretched along the roads approaching the border. Drivers slowed to a crawl as guards directed them into separate lanes, while families waited inside their vehicles with their belongings packed around them.
At the border checkpoints, the royal guards checked names against the returning-citizen lists before waving each vehicle forward. With so many people arriving at once, the lines moved slowly, and some families waited for hours before reaching the gates. Guards moved between the lanes, answering questions, checking travel documents, and directing those who had already been cleared toward the city.
"Keep the line moving," one guard called as another vehicle reached the checkpoint.
A driver leaned out of his window. "We’ve been waiting almost two hours."
The guard glanced at the growing line behind him before handing the documents back.
"I know. We’re processing everyone as quickly as we can. You’ll be through soon."
The driver nodded and rolled the window back up.
A few cars ahead, a little pup pressed her face against the glass and pointed toward the kingdom beyond the gates.
"Is that home?"
Her mother looked at the land ahead of them and smiled through the tears in her eyes.
"Yes, sweetheart. That’s home."
"Welcome home," one guard said to an elderly couple.
The old man stared at him for several seconds before his mate’s fingers tightened around his arm. He looked at her, then back at the guard, his lips parting slightly as he struggled to hold back the emotion in his face.
"I never thought we’d hear those words again," he whispered.
Another guard stepped back and raised the barrier, allowing their vehicle to pass through with the others waiting behind them.
"Welcome home."
By the time the first wave of returning citizens reached the capital, the streets around Nightclaw Estate had begun to fill with familiar faces. Vehicles lined the roads outside the estate, while guards directed arriving families toward the designated parking areas so the entrance would remain clear. The sound of greetings and laughter carried through the open gates as people stepped out of their cars and reunited with those they had not seen in years.
Emma stood at the entrance with Brandon when the first convoy arrived. A vehicle stopped near the courtyard, and Elara stepped out with Zoey’s hand in hers. Bernard came around the other side carrying two bags, but before he could set them down, Zoey spotted Emma.
"Aunt Emma!"
The little girl broke away from her mother’s hand and ran toward her.
Emma immediately crouched and opened her arms, and Zoey rushed into them, wrapping both arms around Emma’s neck.
"You’re so big!" Emma laughed as she held her close.
Zoey pulled back proudly. "Mother says I’m growing every day."
"She isn’t wrong."
Emma kissed her cheek before standing, and Elara was already walking toward her with a smile.
"We wouldn’t have missed this."
Emma pulled her into a tight hug.
"I was hoping you’d come."
Bernard joined them a moment later and set the bags down beside the vehicle.
"We had no choice," he said with a grin. "Zoey packed half the house."
Elara looked over her shoulder at the bags.
"She did not."
Bernard pointed toward the vehicle. "There are three bags of toys."
Zoey crossed her arms and looked at him.
"I need them."
Emma laughed as she took Zoey’s hand.
"Then they’re staying."
Another vehicle pulled into the courtyard before they had even finished greeting them. Ken stepped out with Brooklyn beside him, their hands linked together. Emma’s face immediately brightened when she saw her brother.
"Ken!"
He barely had time to open his arms before Emma reached him. He hugged her tightly and rubbed a hand over the back of her head the way he had when they first met.
"You really did it, moonlight."
Emma pulled back and looked at her brother, a smile spreading across her face.
"We did it."
Brooklyn stepped forward and hugged Emma next. "It feels good to be back."
"It feels even better having you here."
Before they could say anything else, another vehicle pulled into the courtyard. Ken’s door opened, and Brooklyn’s twin boys climbed out behind him. Karl and Kelsey stayed close to their parents for a moment, their eyes moving around the enormous estate as they took in the grand entrance, the gardens, and the people coming and going.
Emma’s smile widened as she walked toward them.
"Look at you two."
The twins glanced at each other before Karl took a small step forward.
"Are you really Queen Luna?"
Emma laughed softly. "Yes, I am."
Karl looked toward the mansion and then back at her.
"But you’re humble. You don’t act like a queen."
Emma smiled and lowered herself slightly so she was closer to their height.
"There’s no point in acting better than everyone else just because I have a title."
Kelsey tugged at his brother’s sleeve.
"Mom said she knows the Queen."
Emma looked toward Brooklyn and laughed.
"She knows me very well."
Brooklyn smiled. "I’ve been telling you stories about her since you were little."
Emma reached down and squeezed both boys’ hands.
"Then I hope she told you the good ones."
Karl grinned.
"She told us everything."
Emma shook her head, laughing as Brandon stepped up behind her and slipped an arm around her waist. He leaned down and pressed a quick kiss against her neck before looking at the boys.
"You’ve been warned."
Everyone laughed.
Emma turned her head toward him with an amused look. "You couldn’t help yourself, could you?"
Brandon only smiled as Kelsey giggled.
"Sorry, My High Alpha King," the twins said together, making everyone laugh again.
More familiar faces continued to arrive throughout the day. Evan came through the gates with Nina beside him, their fingers intertwined. Brandon’s face broke into a smile when he saw them, and he stepped forward to greet his old moonally.
"Evan."
The two men clasped hands before Brandon pulled him into a brief embrace.
"It feels good to see you again," Evan said.
Brandon turned toward Nina with a smile. "Nina, how are you?"
She smiled back. "I’m fine, Your Majesty. Hope you’re ready?"
Brandon chuckled. "Not yet. The coronation hasn’t happened."
Evan laughed. "He’s still correcting people."
"Someone has to," Brandon replied.
Nina squeezed Evan’s hand, and he glanced down at their joined fingers before looking toward Emma. Their eyes met, and Emma smiled at him. Evan returned the smile before turning back to Nina when she leaned closer to him. Emma watched them for a moment, then Brandon reached for her hand.
"They look happy," she said quietly.
"They do," Brandon replied.
Emma gave Evan one last glance before turning toward the growing crowd. She had once encouraged him to stop waiting for a heart that already belonged to someone else. Seeing him standing there with Nina now, smiling in a way she had rarely seen before, was enough for Emma to know that he had finally found the happiness she had wanted for him.
Behind them came Naomi and Paige with several other invited moonallies. Emma was looking toward the entrance when she suddenly stopped, her eyes widening as the two young women stepped out of the vehicle.
"Naomi? Paige?"
They broke into wide smiles and hurried toward her. Paige reached Emma first, wrapping her arms around her.
"I graduated with first-class honors, just like my Alpha King!" she announced proudly.
Naomi laughed beside her. "Well, I was missing you so much that I wasn’t paying enough attention to my studies. Second-class honors was all I could get."
Emma laughed and pulled them both into her arms.
"It’s okay. I’m proud of you both."
Since your next Chapter already starts with Emma teasing Brandon, I would end this Chapter with a small emotional beat that naturally sets up her response without repeating the opening. Keep the same narrative and let Brandon’s final line create the opening for Emma’s teasing.
> Naomi held onto her for another moment before pulling back. "You gave us the chance."
Emma looked at both women and squeezed their hands. "You did the work. I only opened the door."
Paige glanced toward Brandon with a smile. "And he promised us jobs when we graduated."
Brandon nodded. "I promised to give you both a chance to work for one of my companies if there was a position that matched your qualifications. Now that you’ve graduated, we’ll sit down and see where you fit best."
"We’re ready," Paige said.
Brandon smiled. "Good. Because I don’t hire people just because my Queen likes them."
Emma lightly nudged his arm. "Then don’t disappoint your Queen."
Everyone around them laughed.
Paige glanced at Naomi before looking back at Emma. "And now we’re getting mated."
Brandon raised his eyebrows. "Both of you?"
The two women nodded, laughing.
"Then it looks like the coronation won’t be the only celebration around here."
