Alpha's Secret Bride

Chapter 329: The Rise of the Alpha King

The first light of dawn bathed the Royal Palace in silver.

For the first time in many months, the gates stood open.

Royal guards were already stationed along the palace grounds, checking arriving guests against the final invitation lists while palace staff moved through the corridors with last-minute preparations. Banners bearing the royal emblem hung from the walls, fresh flowers had been placed along the entrance hall, and the throne hall had been prepared for the ceremony.

Inside their chamber, Emma stood before the mirror while two palace attendants carefully adjusted the final details of her ceremonial gown.

"Is everything ready?" she asked, looking at her reflection.

One of the attendants smoothed the fabric near her shoulder. "Yes, My Queen Luna. The gown is secure, and your crown will be brought to you before you leave for the ceremony."

Emma nodded and glanced toward the clock.

"How much time do we have?"

"A little over an hour before you are expected in the throne hall."

She took a slow breath. "An hour?"

The attendant smiled. "You have plenty of time, My Queen Luna."

"That depends on whether my Alpha is ready."

A quiet laugh came from the other side of the chamber.

Brandon stood near the window in his ceremonial uniform, one hand resting against the frame as he looked down at the palace grounds.

"I’m ready."

She turned toward him. "You’ve been standing there for the last ten minutes."

"I was making sure everyone else was ready."

She smiled and walked a little closer. "And?"

He turned from the window. "The guards are in position. The council is already in the palace. The Moon Priest has arrived, and the representatives from the returning territories are being escorted to their seats."

Emma walked toward him, carefully gathering the sides of her gown so she wouldn’t step on them.

"What about the pups?"

Brandon’s expression softened. "They’re with Elara and Brooklyn. They’re being dressed for the ceremony."

She laughed softly. "That should be interesting."

"Bryan tried to run away when they brought out his formal clothes."

She covered her mouth to hide her laugh. "Of course he did, just like his father several winters ago."

Brandon reached for her hand when she came close.

"Are you nervous?"

She looked down at their joined hands before meeting his eyes. "A little."

"You don’t have to be nervous. I’m the one taking the throne."

She smiled and slipped her hand into his. "And I’ll be standing right beside you."

He squeezed her hand. "I know."

A soft knock came at the door.

One of the palace guards stepped inside and bowed.

"Your Majesties, procession is ready. The council and territory representatives have taken their places."

Brandon nodded. "And the people?"

"The palace grounds are filling quickly. The outer gates remain open, and the guards are directing the returning families to their assigned areas."

Brandon glanced at Emma.

"Then it’s time."

She looked once more at herself in the mirror before turning away from it. She reached for Brandon’s hand, and he closed his fingers around hers.

"Ready, my King?"

Brandon smiled.

"Ready, my Queen."

Together, they walked toward the doors. Beyond the palace walls, the people of Santorini were already gathering, their voices carrying across the open grounds as they waited to witness the beginning of a new reign.

Citizens filled the palace square, their faces no longer marked by fear but by hope. Families stood shoulder to shoulder with soldiers, nobles, merchants, and farmers, their attention fixed on the palace as the bells of Santorini rang across the capital. The sound carried through the streets, announcing not another funeral, but the beginning of something the kingdom had been waiting for.

Inside the Grand Hall, the Royal Council had already assembled.

Queen Alexandra, now known as the Dowager Queen, stood before the ancient throne in a white and silver gown instead of the mourning black she had worn since King Eldric’s death. She clasped her hands in front of her as she watched the doors, and when Brandon entered, her eyes immediately found him.

Brandon wore a tailored black ceremonial uniform bearing the royal crest of House Eldric. Around his neck hung the medallion that had belonged to his father, resting against his chest as he walked toward her.

For a long moment, mother and son simply looked at one another.

"You’ve come a long way," Alexandra said softly.

Brandon glanced down at the medallion before meeting her eyes again.

"I couldn’t have done it without those who believed in the truth."

A small smile touched her lips.

"That is exactly why your father chose you."

The chamber doors opened behind them, and the Master of Ceremonies stepped forward.

"My lords and ladies, distinguished guests, and citizens of Santorini. Please welcome the Crown Prince, Brandon Oliver Frostbane."

The hall fell silent as every face turned toward him.

Brandon walked toward the throne with calm, measured steps. Beside him came Emma, dressed in an elegant white gown embroidered with silver threads. Nelson, Bernard, Raven, Captain Victor, Ashley, and the loyal men and women who had risked everything to restore the kingdom followed close behind.

When Brandon reached the throne, Queen Alexandra lifted the ancient Alpha Crown from its ceremonial cushion.

She looked into her prince’s eyes and held his gaze.

"Do you swear to protect this kingdom with justice, integrity, and compassion?"

"I do."

"Do you swear that no citizen shall stand above the law, including the king himself?"

"I swear it."

"Do you swear to rule not through fear, but through truth?"

Brandon’s voice carried across the hall.

"With all that I am."

Alexandra’s lips curved into a proud smile. She lifted the ancient Alpha Crown with both hands and carefully placed it on his head.

For a moment, she left her hands resting lightly against the crown before stepping back.

"I present to the kingdom..."

Her voice faltered as emotion caught in her throat. She took a breath and looked at her son.

"His Majesty, Alpha King Brandon Oliver Frostbane."

The hall erupted in applause.

Outside, the palace cannons fired a ceremonial salute, their thunder rolling across the capital as the people gathered in the square erupted into cheers.

"Long live the King!"

The chant spread through the capital.

"Long live the King!"

Brandon stepped onto the palace balcony, with Emma beside him. Tears shone in her eyes as she looked out at the crowd below.

He reached for her hand.

Without hesitation, she placed hers in his.

Together, they faced their people.

Later that highmoon, another ceremony began.

Before the Royal Council and representatives from every province, Brandon turned toward Emma. She stood before him in her white gown, her hands resting together as she waited.

"You stood by me when hope seemed impossible."

He smiled warmly and reached for her hand.

"You reminded me that strength without love is empty."

He took a delicate silver crown from its velvet cushion and held it for a moment before gently placing it on her head.

Then he turned toward the council and the representatives gathered before them.

"From this day forward, let all bear witness. As I take my place upon the throne as your Alpha King, I present my fated mate, the woman who has stood beside me through everything, as your Queen Luna."

His hand closed around Emma’s.

"Honor her as you honor your king."

He looked into her eyes.

"...Her Majesty, Queen Luna Emma."

The cheers grew even louder.

Emma turned toward Brandon and wrapped her arms around him. He held her close as applause filled the palace, the sound carrying through the open doors and into the courtyard.

Beyond the capital, the kingdom slowly began to heal.

Brandon signed his first royal decrees. Political prisoners were released, families whose lands had been confiscated were given their property back, and independent judges were restored to the courts. New anti-corruption laws strengthened the kingdom and placed clear limits on royal authority, making it harder for any ruler to abuse the throne the way Samuel had.

Across the borders of Santorini, the last of the exiled packs slowly began making their way home. Most citizens had already returned during the days leading up to the coronation, but some packs had stayed away, unsure whether the peace would truly last. They waited and watched from a distance, needing more than a royal proclamation before they could trust that home was safe again.

As weeks passed and no new threats came, more of them finally decided to return. Convoys crossed the frontier carrying families who had spent years living away from Santorini, some arriving with little more than the belongings they had managed to save. When they finally stepped onto their homeland, some stopped and looked around as though they were afraid to believe they had really made it back.

Old allies came forward to welcome them, while pups ran into the arms of relatives they had only heard about in stories. Some of the older wolves wiped tears from their faces as they looked toward the homes and lands they had once thought they would never see again.

Santorini had waited for them, and now they were finally coming home.

Peace had finally returned.

The first few weeks of their new life as Alpha King and Queen Luna were nothing like the quiet life they had once imagined. Brandon spent most of his days in council meetings, reviewing reports from the territories, approving appointments, and signing documents that required the king’s attention. Emma attended many of the meetings with him, especially when the discussions involved families returning home, rebuilding damaged communities, and restoring services that had been neglected during Samuel’s rule.

They were still getting used to how much of their time belonged to the crown. One day after a council meeting, Emma sat beside Brandon at the council table with a report open in front of her. She read the same paragraph twice before closing the file and rubbing her temple.

Brandon looked over from his own papers. "That’s the third report you’ve closed without finishing."

She glanced at the file. "I know. I’ll finish it later."

"You’ve been saying that for the last hour."

"I’ve been sitting here for the last four hours."

Brandon reached across the table and gently pulled the report away from her. "Then you’re done for today."

She gave him an incredulous look. "You’re the king. You can’t just end a council review because I’m tired."

"I can when my Queen is staring at the same page like it personally offended her."

A laugh escaped her before she could stop it. She pushed her chair back and stood, but the moment she straightened, her hand caught the edge of the table.

Brandon was on his feet immediately.

"Moonheart?"

She closed her eyes and waited for the chamber to settle before looking at him. "I’m fine. I just stood up too quickly."
