Alpha's Secret Bride

Chapter 331: Another Gift From the Moon

The silver moon remained above Santorini long after the strange change had begun.

People gathered outside their homes, in the palace courtyard, and along the streets, all staring up at the sky. No one seemed willing to be the first to go inside. They had never seen the Blood Moon change like this before, and the longer the silver light remained, the quieter the kingdom became.

Inside the palace courtyard, Brandon stood beside Emma with his hand wrapped around hers. A few steps away, the Moon Priest watched the sky, his expression giving nothing away.

Behind them, palace guards kept the crowd from pressing too close to the royal family. Several maids had brought blankets for the older citizens who had been standing outside for too long, while another group carried trays of water through the courtyard.

Mrs. Thompson appeared from the palace entrance and walked straight toward Emma.

"Your Majesty, you should at least have a shawl around your shoulders."

Emma looked down at herself. "I’m fine."

Mrs. Thompson gave her a look.

Emma sighed and accepted the shawl a maid held out.

"Thank you."

"And drink some water."

Brandon glanced at Mrs. Thompson. "You’re giving orders to the Queen now?"

"I’m giving orders to the person who will forget to take care of herself while staring at the sky for the next three hours."

Emma laughed quietly.

Brandon shook his head. "She’s got you there."

Mrs. Thompson handed her a cup.

Emma took a sip before looking back toward the Moon Priest.

"You said the Moon Goddess was sending a gift."

The priest nodded.

"Then what are we supposed to do?"

"Wait."

Brandon raised an eyebrow. "That’s all?"

A small smile appeared on the old priest’s face. "Sometimes, Your Majesty, the hardest thing the Moon Goddess asks of us is to wait."

Emma smiled as Brandon shook his head.

"You’re getting very good at giving answers without actually answering anything."

The Moon Priest chuckled. "Perhaps that’s because some things cannot be explained before they happen."

A soft breeze moved through the courtyard, stirring Emma’s hair against her cheek.

Before she could brush it away, Brandon reached over and tucked the loose strands behind her ear.

Then the silver light suddenly grew brighter.

Everyone fell silent.

Even the pups who had been whispering among themselves stopped.

Luna Alexandra stood near the palace steps with two maids beside her. She reached for one of the maids’ hands as the light spread across the courtyard.

"Is it supposed to be this bright?" she asked.

The maid shook her head.

"I don’t think so, Your Highness."

The moonlight spread across the palace grounds, flowing over the stone paths and gardens before reaching the people gathered outside. It washed over the palace walls, the royal banners, and the ancient throne hall, leaving everything beneath a pale silver glow.

Then something unexpected happened.

The old royal crest above the palace entrance began to glow.

Brandon turned slowly toward it.

"Is that supposed to happen?"

The Moon Priest’s eyes widened as he stared at the crest.

"No."

The silver light gathered around the ancient symbol, tracing each line of the crest that had stood above the palace for generations. The crowd grew quieter as the glow remained fixed in place.

Then, slowly, a second symbol appeared beneath it.

Emma took a step closer.

"What is that?"

The Moon Priest moved toward the entrance, his staff tapping softly against the stone with each step. Brandon followed with Emma at his side.

"I haven’t seen that symbol since I was a young priest," the old man said.

Brandon looked at him.

"What does it mean?"

The priest raised a hand toward the glowing symbol, but stopped just before his fingers could touch it.

"It is the ancient mark of the Moon Goddess."

A murmur moved through the crowd.

Emma looked at Brandon before turning back to the priest.

"What does it signify?"

The Moon Priest lowered his hand and faced them.

"A blessing."

Brandon glanced back at the palace.

"For the king?"

The priest slowly shook his head.

"For the kingdom."

The silver light continued to shine above them.

"This mark was once believed to appear only when a kingdom had found peace after a time of great darkness."

Emma looked around the courtyard, taking in the people gathered beneath the moonlight.

Families stood together across the palace grounds, with pups gathered beside their parents. Citizens who had returned after winters away stood among those who had never left, while guards who had spent winters protecting the kingdom now stood peacefully among the people they had sworn to protect.

One little pup yawned and leaned against his mother’s leg.

Another had fallen asleep in his father’s arms.

Brandon’s fingers tightened gently around Emma’s.

"So the gift is peace?"

The Moon Priest smiled.

"No. Peace is what you and your people built."

He turned his eyes toward the glowing symbol above the palace entrance.

"The gift might be the Moon Goddess’s promise that this peace will be protected."

For several moments, no one spoke.

Then one of the pups began whispering to his father.

"Can we go inside now?"

His father covered his mouth to hide a laugh.

The tension in the courtyard finally broke. A few people smiled, and several pups began whispering among themselves.

Mrs. Thompson glanced at Emma.

"Perhaps that’s our sign to let everyone get some sleep."

Emma nodded.

"You’re probably right."

For the first time since the moonfall, people slowly began making their way inside.

The guards opened a wider path, while the palace staff collected empty cups and folded the blankets that had been handed out. The Moon Priest remained near the entrance, still watching the mark above them.

Then the silver glow slowly faded from the royal crest, leaving the ancient symbol looking almost exactly as it had before.

Except for one small difference.

The new mark remained.

Emma lifted her eyes toward it.

"So it stays?"

The Moon Priest nodded.

"For generations."

Brandon looked across the courtyard at the people gathered around them.

No one was cheering, and no one was afraid. They simply stood together beneath the silver moon, quietly taking in the symbol that had appeared above their palace.

Emma rested her head against Brandon’s shoulder.

"Maybe this is exactly what Santorini needed."

Brandon lowered his head and kissed the top of her hair.

"Maybe."

Above them, the Silver Moon continued to shine.

And for the first time in generations, Santorini had received a blessing that had nothing to do with power, wealth, or war.

It was a promise that the kingdom they had fought so hard to rebuild would never again belong to fear.

The Moon Goddess had given them her blessing, and this time, the people of Santorini had nothing left to fear.

Several months have passed.

Under Alpha King Brandon’s leadership, Santorini entered its greatest era of peace and prosperity. The wounds left by Samuel’s betrayal slowly healed, and the kingdom grew stronger with each passing moonrise.

The courts operated independently, and corruption was prosecuted without favor. Brandon also honored Emma’s request and lifted the law that had prevented severance of a mating bond, but only when the bond had truly become harmful to both mates and the severance was judged necessary.

Businesses flourished, abandoned packs were rebuilt, and families who had once been forced to leave their homes have returned.

Inside the palace, the changes could be seen in smaller ways too.

The cookhouse no longer prepared emergency meals for guards who had been called away at a moment’s notice. The medical wing had started keeping proper supplies instead of relying on whatever could be found during a crisis. Palace guards changed shifts on time, and the servants no longer whispered whenever a messenger arrived at the palace gates.

Life had become ordinary, and that was something everyone had learned to appreciate. After everything the Frostbane family had survived, ordinary days had become precious. The palace was busy with school lessons, royal duties, family dinners, and the endless noise of two growing pups, and Emma had learned to enjoy the simple moments she once took for granted.

She had become pregnant again.

At first, the pregnancy felt much like her previous ones. She continued with her daily routine, attended her appointments, and tried to ignore Brandon whenever he became overly cautious. He asked about every appointment, checked whether she was resting enough, and somehow always found another reason to remind her not to overdo things.

But Brandon had never forgotten what happened when Charlotte was born. He had not been there when she delivered their daughter. He had learned about the complications afterward, when the healers gave him the medical report and explained how much blood she had lost and how close they had come to losing her.

He had read the report more than once. Each time, his eyes stopped at the same details, and each time he found himself thinking about what could have happened if the healers had not acted quickly enough.

As the pregnancy progressed, that fear became harder for him to hide.
