The footsteps stopped outside the recovery chamber, followed by a soft knock on the door.
Before Emma could answer, the door opened, and Luna Alexandra stepped inside. Emily followed close behind, carrying a small bag filled with things they had brought from Santorini.
Emma smiled when she saw them. "You made it."
"We came as soon as we heard you and the pup were doing well," Alexandra said as she crossed the chamber.
Her eyes went straight to the bassinet beside Emma’s bed.
She slowed as she approached and looked down at the sleeping pup, her expression softening.
"So this is our new little prince."
She smiled from the bed. "Come closer. You can see him properly."
Alexandra stepped beside the bassinet and leaned over to get a better look at his tiny face.
"He’s beautiful," she whispered.
Emily came up behind her and peeked into the bassinet. "He’s even smaller than I imagined."
Emma smiled. "That’s what his father said."
Alexandra turned toward her. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired, but good."
Alexandra pulled the chair closer to the bed and sat down. "And what did the healers say?"
"They’re happy with my recovery. They want me to rest and take it easy for the next few days."
"Then that’s exactly what you’re going to do."
She raised an eyebrow. "I have a feeling everyone has decided to give me orders."
Emily laughed as she placed the bag on a nearby chair. "After what you just went through, I think you’ve earned a little fussing."
Emma glanced toward the bassinet. "You should tell that to my mate. He’s been fussing over me since before we left Santorini."
Alexandra smiled. "I doubt he’ll be stopping anytime soon."
Emily leaned over beside her and smiled. "He has so much hair."
Brandon entered the chamber a few minutes later with a cup of coffee in one hand. He paused when he saw Alexandra and Emily, then smiled and exchanged warm greetings with them before walking over to Emma’s bedside.
Alexandra turned back toward the bassinet with a smile.
"Our newest Prince is here."
"Yes, Mother. Your fourth grandpup," Brandon said softly as he glanced at the sleeping pup.
Alexandra looked at him. "I need more grandpups."
Brandon glanced toward Emma, and they exchanged a quick mindlink. Emma’s smile grew before they both laughed.
"Maybe Elara will give you more," Brandon teased.
Alexandra shook her head. "That one already told me she’s perfectly happy with just her daughter."
Brandon took a sip of his coffee. "Maybe you should encourage her to give you one more."
They all laughed.
Emily leaned over the bassinet again, her eyes fixed on the tiny pup. "He’s beautiful."
Brandon smiled as he looked at his pup. "My Queen keeps saying he has my eyes."
Emma looked at him from the bed. "Because he does."
Brandon’s smile widened. "I haven’t even had a chance to argue with you about that."
"You don’t need to," she replied. "Just look at him."
He stepped closer to the bassinet and looked down at their pup. "All right. Maybe he does."
Alexandra glanced at him. "And what are you planning to call him?"
Brandon looked toward Emma.
"We haven’t announced his name yet."
Alexandra turned to Emma. "Then what shall we call him?"
She looked down at her pup, then at Brandon.
Brandon stepped closer and rested a hand on the edge of the bassinet.
"His name is Elyon Justin Frostbane."
Alexandra repeated the name softly. "Elyon Justin Frostbane."
Emily smiled. "That’s a beautiful name."
Emma reached toward the pup and touched his tiny cheek.
"Our little Elyon."
After several days of recovery, she was finally cleared to leave the healing den. The medical team gave her instructions for caring for the incision, taking her medication, lifting restrictions, and returning for follow-up checks. Brandon listened carefully and asked questions about anything that concerned him.
The private jet was prepared for their return home, and the palace staff had already arranged everything they would need for Emma and the newborn.
When they finally arrived back at the palace, Bryan and Charlotte were waiting near the entrance with Mrs. Thompson and few other attendants.
The moment the doors opened, Charlotte ran forward before Mrs. Thompson caught her gently by the shoulders.
"Slow down. Let your mother come inside first."
Emma smiled as Brandon helped her step carefully into the chamber and settled down on the bed.
Charlotte looked past them.
"Where’s the pup?"
Brandon smiled and turned toward the attendant carrying the bassinet.
"There he is."
Bryan moved closer, his eyes fixed on the bassinet.
"Can I see him?"
"Both of you can," Emma said, smiling as she watched them come closer.
Bryan and Charlotte approached the bassinet slowly, their earlier excitement giving way to quiet curiosity as they looked down at their little sibling. Charlotte leaned over first, her eyes moving across his tiny face.
"He’s tiny."
Bryan nodded, keeping his eyes on the pup. "He’s smaller than I expected."
Emma laughed softly from the bed. "You were that small once."
Charlotte looked up at her father. "What’s his name?"
"Elyon Justin."
Charlotte repeated the name carefully, as if making sure she said it right. "Elyon."
Bryan leaned closer to the bassinet, then looked at his mother. "Can I touch his hand?"
She nodded. "Gently."
Bryan reached into the bassinet and carefully touched his brother’s tiny fingers. Elyon’s fingers curled around his, and Bryan immediately looked up with wide eyes.
"He held me."
Charlotte immediately moved closer, trying to see her brother’s tiny hand around Bryan’s finger. "Let me see."
Bryan shifted in front of the bassinet. "Wait your turn."
"I am waiting," Charlotte insisted, leaning around him.
"You’re pushing me."
Charlotte frowned and took a small step back. "I’m not."
Mrs. Thompson smiled as she watched them argue quietly beside the bassinet.
Emma leaned against Brandon, smiling at their pups.
The days that followed were slower for Emma as she recovered from surgery. Brandon made sure she did not try to do more than the healers had allowed. Whenever she attempted to get out of bed without calling for help, he was usually beside her before she could take more than a few steps.
One moonrise, Emma reached for the robe hanging beside the bed.
"I can get it."
Brandon took it down before she could stand.
"I know."
She looked at him.
"You don’t have to do everything."
"I know."
He helped her into the robe and waited while she steadied herself.
When she was ready, he helped her into the bath chamber and stayed with her while she bathed, making sure she did not put too much strain on her incision. When she needed to sit, he helped lower her onto the bath seat and kept her robe and towel within reach. Afterward, he helped her dry off, brought her medication and a glass of water, and walked with her back to bed.
Emma looked at him as he adjusted the blanket around her.
"You’re treating me like I’m made of glass."
"You had surgery a few days ago."
"I remember."
"Good."
She gave him an annoyed look.
He smiled and kissed her forehead.
That moonfall, the palace had gone quiet when Elyon woke crying.
She started to push herself upright, but Brandon was already sitting up.
"I’ll get him."
"Starlite..."
"You need to rest."
He crossed the chamber, lifted their pup from the bassinet, and brought him back against his chest. Elyon’s cries slowly softened as he rocked him.
She watched from the bed.
"You know what you’re doing?"
Brandon looked at her.
"I have three pups. I’m learning."
She smiled as he settled Elyon against his shoulder.
After feeding the baby, he changed him and placed him back in the bassinet. When Elyon began fussing again, he picked him up without hesitation and walked slowly around the chamber until he settled.
The next moonrise, Brandon’s schedule changed.
His royal duties did not disappear, but meetings were moved whenever possible, ministers were asked to bring urgent matters directly to him, and his council handled anything that could wait. Instead of spending every available hour in the throne chamber, he returned to his family between meetings, checked on Emma, and took over more of Elyon’s care.
She noticed the change one afternoon when he walked into the chamber carrying another package.
Her eyes went to the box in his hand as he set it carefully on the table in front of her.
"What is that?"
"For you."
She looked from the box to him. "Again?"
He opened it, revealing another piece of jewelry nestled inside. She stared at it for a moment before looking back at him.
"Starlite."
He smiled. "You like it?"
"That isn’t the point."
He reached for another small box and placed it beside the first. Her eyebrows lifted as she looked at the growing collection.
"There is more?"
"I wasn’t sure which one you’d prefer, so I got a few options."
She laughed and covered her face with one hand, shaking her head.
"You’re spoiling me."
He leaned back with an innocent look. "You deserve it."
He placed the second box beside the first.
"You’ve just given birth, you’re recovering from surgery, and you’ve spent months dealing with me worrying about you. I think I’ve earned the right to spoil my Queen."
She lowered her hand and looked at him.
"You’re using my recovery as an excuse."
"Maybe."
She smiled.
He sat beside her and took her hand while Elyon slept peacefully nearby.
For once, the Alpha King could wait.
His kingdom was safe, his family was home, and the woman he had been terrified of losing was sitting beside him. For Brandon, nothing outside that chamber seemed more important.
Inside the palace, the quiet days were over.
