The next day, the heavy rain had finally stopped.

Soren followed Bill at an unhurried pace until they stopped in front of a house that still looked relatively warm and lived-in from the outside.

Compared to the clown's old lair they had visited last night, this place felt full of life. The lawn was neatly trimmed, and a few pots of fresh flowers sat on the front steps.

"This used to be your house?"

Soren looked at the building.

"It was," Bill said, standing outside the yard. He stared at the familiar house with a bitter smile. "Twenty-seven years ago, my little brother Georgie ran out from here—"

That day had become Bill's lifelong nightmare.

He had been sick with a fever and stuck in bed. To cheer Georgie up, he had folded a paper boat for him. Then, from the second-floor window, he had watched helplessly as his excited little brother chased the boat through the rain… straight into the storm.

He had never seen Georgie again.

As he spoke, Bill's eyes drifted toward a storm drain a short distance away. That was where the paper boat had been swept all those years ago.

Right now, a small boy was lying on his stomach in front of that same drain, peering inside.

"Fuck!"

Bill's reaction was instant. He cursed and sprinted forward.

At that exact moment, a pale white hand shot out of the drain and reached for the boy.

Bill's eyes went wide with rage and horror.

Was the same nightmare about to play out right in front of him again?

Whoosh—

A sharp sound cut through the air beside him.

Out of the corner of his eye, Bill saw a streak of purple light flash past.

Soren stood where he was, right arm raised. A semi-transparent ghostly hand erupted from his body, crossed the distance in an instant, and clamped down on the pale wrist.

Soren's expression turned cold. He clenched his fist.

Crack!

The ghostly hand snapped the arm clean off.

A high-pitched, agonized screech echoed from deep inside the drain as the severed limb jerked back into the darkness.

The sudden violence left the boy sitting frozen on the ground. He scrambled backward in panic.

Bill reached him first and yanked the kid to his feet. "Hey! What the hell are you doing here?!"

The boy pointed at the drain, voice shaking. "M-my skateboard… it fell inside."

Bill grabbed the boy's shoulders and spoke with desperate intensity. "Listen to me. Never go near the drains again. And never answer anything that talks to you from inside them. Do you understand?"

The boy shrank back, intimidated by Bill's intensity. "B-but… my bathtub at home makes noises sometimes too."

Bill's heart dropped. He knew exactly what that meant.

"If you can move, do it soon. And whatever you do, don't respond to it. Go home. Right now."

He was practically shouting by the end.

The boy, already terrified, tore himself free and ran off without looking back. "I—I'm going to the carnival!"

Bill watched him disappear, face pale.

When he turned around, he saw Soren standing in front of the drain, examining something.

"Find anything?" Bill asked as he walked over. "Also, that purple light just now—"

Before he could finish, another ghostly hand appeared from Soren's body and reached into the drain.

A moment later, it pulled something out.

A ruined paper boat.

"This?" Soren asked.

Bill stared at the waterlogged, disintegrating boat. His eyes turned red as he nodded hard.

"Yeah… that's the one I folded for Georgie."

---

Back at the hotel.

Soren sat on the couch, casually scrolling through his phone.

Bill paced in front of him, restless.

"Are we really okay letting them go alone?" he finally burst out. "The clown's awake. What if something happens to them while they're out there—"

"Relax. They'll be fine."

Soren didn't even look up from his phone.

Pennywise fed on fear. As long as their terror hadn't been completely drained yet, the clown wouldn't kill them. It was like eating salmon without wasabi or grilled meat without cumin — it preferred its meals properly seasoned first.

Over the next few hours, things played out exactly as Soren predicted.

One by one, the others returned safely to the hotel.

Their conditions, however, were rough. Some were deathly pale. Others were covered in foul-smelling slime. A few had torn clothes and fresh wounds.

"Everyone got what they needed?" Soren stood up and looked over the group.

They forced themselves to straighten up and pulled out their items — coins, stones, postcards, old trinkets.

Soren nodded as he looked at the small pile on the table. The keys were finally gathered.

Just as he was about to suggest they rest, Bill, who had been standing by the window, suddenly slammed the door open and ran out.

"Bill?! Where are you going?!"

The others stared in shock.

Soren walked to the window and followed Bill's line of sight.

On the road across from the hotel sat a skateboard. Tied to the back was a bright red balloon with crooked writing on it:

You can't save him this time either.

"That's the skateboard the kid dropped in the drain?" Soren asked calmly.

Pennywise was deliberately provoking Bill, trying to lure him out alone. If Bill died, the group would fall apart, and the clown could pick them off one by one.

Soren grabbed his coat from the couch and followed.

---

At the carnival, Derry's annual festival was in full swing.

Half the town seemed to be there. The Ferris wheel turned slowly under the sun while cheerful music played and children ran around laughing.

"Excuse me! Coming through!"

Bill shoved his way through the crowd, ignoring the angry shouts behind him. He scanned the area desperately, searching for the boy.

He finally spotted him heading into one of the attractions — the mirror maze.

"No! Don't go in there!"

Bill shouted and tried to follow, but a hand landed on his shoulder and stopped him.

"I'll handle it."

Soren's voice came from behind him.

---

Inside the mirror maze, the light was dim.

Reflective glass panels stretched in every direction, making it impossible to tell which way was forward.

Soren stood at the entrance and closed his eyes, focusing.

"What do we do?" Bill asked, sweating.

The boy's reflection kept appearing in different mirrors. Every time Bill reached out, his hand hit glass.

"Walking a maze is a child's game."

Soren smirked and drew the Shura Blade.

He roughly estimated the boy's height, then raised the blade slightly to avoid anything below waist level.

Before Bill could ask about the sudden appearance of the sword, a terrifying pressure filled the air.

Demonic power surged into the Shura Blade, making it glow purple.

Shing.

Soren drew and slashed in one smooth motion. A massive crescent-shaped blade wave over ten meters wide tore forward.

Iaijutsu — Vacuum Wave.

Everything in its path was destroyed.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Dozens of mirrors and glass panels shattered. The blade wave sliced straight through the maze walls, clearing a wide path in an instant.

In one corner of the maze, Pennywise had his jaws wide open, rows of jagged teeth aimed at the boy.

Before he could reach his prey, the devastating blade wave slammed into him.

"AAAAAHH!!!"

With a furious, agonized screech, the clown's body was torn apart mid-air and dissolved into black smoke.

The boy sat on the floor among the broken glass, completely frozen in shock.

Bill stood there staring at the ruined section of the maze, brain short-circuiting.

He wrote horror novels for a living… and even he wouldn't have dared write something this over-the-top.

"What the hell was that?!"

"Something exploded in there! Go check it out!"

The noise had drawn attention. Footsteps and voices were already rushing toward the maze.

Soren sheathed the blade without expression, grabbed the stunned Bill by the arm, and dragged him deeper into the wreckage.
